I have the beta and cannot get it to run. Is anyone else in the beta? How do you get the code to work? What IP address are you supposed to use?

Why, oh why, do people judge games from beta tests. Beta tests are not complete games. They aren't even demos. They are a small small part of a larger game and exist to test technology and stability as much as anything else.

Maybe developers need to be more clear about what a beta is and is for.

Judging a game by the beta test is like judging a movie from ten minutes of unedited footage.

I hope they don't make a safe decision like Starcraft II, in 3D! Diablo III, in 3D (which we have in Dungeon Siege anyway). And we really don't need another FPS.

How about a Starcraft space combat sim?

If you're in the beta test, you aren't paying them. You're helping to test the game and that means its going to be tough going for long spans of time. Every beta test is like that. I don't know why companies aren't more clear about how beta tests are often more work than fun, but that's the way it is. The upside is that its free and when the game launches, you'll know ALOT more than the average player.

This is the best news I've read in weeks. Finally, no more building a character to have it wiped in the beta test. IMHO this is the best MMORPG yet, and I'm ready for the live version.

Sounds like BW2 will be Populous 3, which is just fine by me. I played that game for like 24 hours straight and nearly missed a midterm. B&W was okay, but it was no Populous, or even Warmonger. Anyone remember Warmonger? If you want to figure out really what was the first RTS, play Warmonger on the Amiga. Most under-rated game ever.

I have no idea why you have such an axe to grind with E&B. All I'm saying is that I've been in the beta for a while and it's become a really good game. As for opening up the beta, why shouldn't it be open? If you're selling a game to the general public, wouldn't you want to test it with the general public?

Despite the comment below, I'd highly recommend getting into the E&B beta. In the last few months it's shaped up to be one of the best games I've ever played in the MMORPG genre. It's a lot more than "EQ in space" and anyone who says so either hasn't played E&B or hasn't played EQ.

I'd love to try Eve, but that beta doesn't seem to have started yet. I've been playing E&B for months now and watched go from a buggy technology demo to a full-fledged working galaxy with a lot of polish and visual style. It's a neat process to watch.
