Halsy, what are you smoking? M.U.L.E. didn't set the bar for space sim games. M.U.L.E. was a multiplayer strategy/economy game.

Elite set the bar for space sim games. To quote Frontier Development's website, David Braben's (the creator of Elite) new company:

""Elite" set many firsts, and was the first genuine 3D game on home computers. Even many years after its release it is fondly remembered. For example "Probably the best computer game ever" (The Times, December 1988). It went on to sell around 1,000,000 units, and is popular still, having appeared on most popular formats. "

I thought it was just static bitmaps, but looking further into it, it's software that spans the actual running sim over all those monitors with multiple computers using an IPX networking protocol. Craziness.

It is an RPG. It's open-ended in the vein of Morrowind. The NPCs in the game are on set schedules, and go about their "daily lives", which gives the feeling of an alive world. There are multiple paths to take, and thus multiple endings to go through. Graphically it's very nice, the AI in combat is good, it's not just "click click click". Animals, monsters, and other NPCs will ambush you, gang up on you, etc...

You should try Gothic 1 first. Just an all around good game.

So.... Did they use horrible graphics compression for their screenshots, or is the game running in 256 color mode?

Please correct me if I'm wrong... But your scores aren't saved after you play a game, are they?

If they are not, then what does it matter what your score is? You're playing several games in a sitting, and your score is going to be different in each game, but it's wiped away when you begin the next game....

I signed up today for Jumpgate again to check out Episode 2. As soon as I launched from the station the first time, the game registered a Conflux kill for me, gave me 5000 credits and some experience. I was then blown up by some jellyfish alien flying around the base. Then the server disconnected.

I reconnected, got back into the game, and re-launched. I was awarded with another Conflux kill, and a jellyfish started shooting at me. Then I was disconnected from the server again.

After that, I cancelled my account.
