Does anyone actually believe the ETAs for any given Kickstarter, especially after stretch goals are added? Games get delayed all the time. Usually, these delays occur before release dates are announced but with KS, you don't have that luxury.

No. They all lie about the dates because if they gave realistic timelines, people wouldn't be patient enough to back it.

And unfortunately with inExile, Wasteland 2 delays pushed back Torment even further. And I expect the same with Bard's Tale IV.

Well, a huge portion of the game world is clearly there for multiplayer. I never had a reason to visit the wind farm in single player, but then they have you race jets at insanely low altitude through it in multi.

There was one mission in single player on PC where you had to fly through the wind farm with choppers.

RollerCoaster Tycoon was an economic game which would appeal to plenty of the Elite crowd. They did the same thing with Elite Dangerous, limiting their beta to those who are exploitable have nostalgia and disposable income.

I really doubt that Planet Coaster will have the cult following that Elite did. RollerCoaster Tycoon 1 and 2 are probably my favorite games of all time. I did buy the Elite Dangerous beta. And there's no way in hell I would spend $75 dollars for this.

It seems to me that the current gen of consoles came out of the gate barely able to play current games well. And these things are supposed to have a cycle of 5 - 10 years. /shrug

They went cheap for current gen because they didn't want to sell hardware at a huge loss compared to the PS3 and 360. At the same time, you need obvious graphical improvements to push the consoles. So everything looks decent, not great, but caps at 30 fps. I don't expect this to change for the next generation either.

My example was Scatterblak, not you. In his post history, he complains another game isn't first person, so it "sucks".

Lots of the game codes that come with the Geforce card promo are for sale on eBay. Most sell for $20-$25.

Thanks! Bought my game code from eBay for $24 after reading this and already redeemed it on GOG.

If I ran a company with a ridiculously large revenue stream that gave me the creative freedom to do whatever I want, the last thing I would choose to work on would be endless sequels to a stale franchise.

Valve doesn't need HL3 at all. If they are working on it, wonderful. They'll have a lot of ecstatic fans. If not, I look forward to whatever their next project is.

I don't understand the basis for the lawsuit even when you don't consider the obvious parody defense. The actor doesn't own the rights to the Frankie Carbone character. The studio does.

Dude, Freelancer was only 11 years ago ;-)

I just couldn't get into Freelancer. Chris Roberts promised the world and wasn't able to deliver. I wonder what happened to him.

Watching all the fools pony up money to play a so called beta. Beta's used to be about testing the product before release. Now it is releasing the product to earn cash. Calling this a beta is a hoot it is a release for the high rollers.

You can also make the argument that it's not even a true beta because it's far from feature complete.

I'm very wary of early access games these days. And $75 is a lot of money. But for me, the extra $25 for the beta was definitely worth it. I've been waiting 20 years for another great space sim and so far I'm loving this game.

not sure this is the case, you have the "solo" option as of right now, it still needs the servers to be up tho.

You're right, the current beta only has online single player. According to their FAQ, the final game will also have an offline single player mode.

They are also releasing an XCOM Enemy Unknown Linux port this summer. And CIvilization Beyond Earth is being released simultaniously for Windows, Mac, and Linux. So I consider that a serious commitment from Firaxis.

Besides, after all this time, you think devs would have gotten smart enough to know NOT to ever give specific times for release! How many times has this blown up in their collective faces over the last 20 years? Seriously, stop giving 'concrete' release dates! You're only hurting yourself!

The problem is that Kickstarter and crowd funding forces devs to promise very aggressive and unrealistic timelines to drum up interest. No one wants to fund a game that will be in development for four years. SC shot themselves in the foot though with their endless stretch goals and fundraising.

I've always liked the Civilization series, but the civilizations felt out of place during certain eras. Seemed odd having the Montezuma or some ancient leader in modern times.

I'd like to see a civilization game that is set on another planet with completely random and unique civilizations that are not based on anything on earth. Perhaps that is where this is going?

You never heard of Alpha Centauri? I must be getting really old.
