It's a shame, but I don't think EA or Disney would green light it these days regardless of which studio was actually making it. They want games that will tie into existing and future movies not completely separate storylines and characters.

Every modern space 4x game has been influenced by MOO2. Why even bother calling it out anymore? You don't see "a spiritual successor to Doom and Wolfenstein 3D" when they advertise first person shooters.

I'll believe it when I see it, especially when it comes to EA. Cloud-native, artificial intelligence, "server-side neural network algorithm training".... That's not a clear vision, it's marketing using as many buzzwords as they can.

I was very surprised that he resumed development after dropping off the face of the earth for six plus months.

Outside of his personal issues he seemed stuck in a endless loop of redoing work he wasn't satisfied with instead of pushing forward.

It always entertains me when people don't realize that a given game isn't trying to be what they want it to be, so their complaints aren't valid.

It's like people complaining that the original Dungeons game from 2011 was a bad Dungeon Keeper game. Well... that might be so, but it wasn't TRYING to be a Dungeon Keeper game... so the criticism isn't relevant.

It always entertains me when people who have never played the game make sweeping generalizations and are able to conclude which complaints are valid or not.

It doesn't need to be ultra realistic but it does need to be fun and Democracy 3 wasn't. It was just frustrating. A simulation should allow you to use different strategies to win. Instead, after everything you try fails, you realize that there's one narrow path to success and you have to guess what the developer's intentions were.

the simulation aspect of this series of games is completely out of whack with reality

and despite being the title, you start of your games with no political support despite winning the said elections. Thus making the game ridiculously hard to win in a logical way

and everyone wants to assassinate you

Dev def needs to stretch the timeline to decades instead of such short intervals. For now, you can solve the HIV epidemic in Africa within 5 years, but you won't get reelected....

It needs to be rewritten so it bears some resemblance to how running a government / polling / getting elected actually works.

To be fair, I don't think any political simulation game has gotten it completely right yet although some older games like Shadow President were a lot of fun anyway.

I would take almost a decade of silence as a good indicator that Valve isn't working on anything for Half-Life. Time to move on folks.

I believe they are also working on a "WC3 HD" remaster. There were a few articles about it in late 2015.

GameStop does need to diversify if they're going to survive over the next decade. Pawning physical copies of used console games isn't a sustainable business model.

I enjoyed playing Shadow President many years ago. It was always fun threatening, invading, and nuking Canada. Damn Canadians.

I don't know if I would call the idea of a pawn shop innovative. Maybe revolving your entire business around exploiting kids for used game sales is.

Agreed. I have absolutely no desire to ever step inside a Gamestop again and I'm looking forward to their inevitable Chapter 7 bankruptcy. They would probably laugh at us anyway if we actually asked for a Windows key.

I'm glad Josh is making progress, especially given the personal problems he's had. But it seems like he's still endlessly changing and overhauling the underlying engine instead of working on gameplay. We'll see.

Maybe the mod community will be able to make something out of this if it's ever released.
