back on topic, I'm really excited for this demo
Seconded. Here's hoping we end up with a bigger player base online after the demo/initial launch rush.

Yes it is. They are doing a fine job IMHO, I just played through the first couple of levels and I'm genuinely impressed . These folks have put a lot of effort into this mod.

I didn't buy BF because I really don't enjoy non sci-fi shooters. Does this mod warrant the now $19.99 price of admission for a boxed copy of BF: 1942? Gauging by the previous posts, I'm thinking not...

Yeah, we've heard that for a few years now...

Have they? I thought they were always claiming 2005 release on it. I've been trying not to follow too closely so I don't die of anticipation... Everything I've seen of the game so far looks great though. If they can manage to pull off the insanity system well, I'll be a happy camper.

where the hell is the linux server for this at?

AFAIK, we aren't getting one for Linux. I believe that this is related to an issue with the physics engine being licensed from whoever only for use on WinBlows platforms and the publisher won't shuck out for another license for Linux/FreeBSD/etc...

Didn't you listen to Johnny Cochran? "Chewbacca is a wookie, but the Ewoks live on Endor, that does not make sense..."

Sorry, couldn't resist...

Please, please God, don't let it be a WWII game...

Most definitely agreed!

They make me much more paranoid than open, outdoor shooters.

Agreed. As far as multiplay, I do like when they can find a good balance of the two as well. One of the things that I really enjoyed about PlanetSide was, IMHO, the good mixture of corridor and outdoor fighting.

i came in here looking to read "man, this game sucks!!! i hate it and hope no one buys it and then the devs are killed along with their families!!!"

I'm probably going to be one of the few ppl in the states to pick this title up when it comes out.

If anyone is looking at this and fondly remembering Severance: Blade of Darkness go on and reinstall it, this thing isn't fit to be mentioned in the same breath as that masterpiece.

Agreed. Not that Severance ever left my hard disk in the first place

That said, I did enjoy the first Conan demo. The combos were fun and the combat system is OK. True, this isn't Blade of Darknes, yet it isn't a terrible game by any means. Yes, the graphics are sub-par. Yes, the combat system leaves much to be desired and, yes, the AI blows. Maybee I've smoked way too much crack tonight, but I really had fun with the Conan demo anyway. I really like the way they let you spend your exp on your preferred attacks / combos and I really believe that the designers have a desire to recreate the spirit of the Conan saga with this game. The engine is pretty bad as far as anomolies go (clipping, binding, worse than Morrowind ass-walking, etc...) but, hell, what are our other choices in this genre right now? None. I'm just glad someone is making a decent effort.

Edit: Hah, not that I expect anyone to agree with me. I'm also, surely, one of the only people on this earth that think that "Down in the Bone Horde" was the *best* level of the original Thief...

There was also a Conan full sized BnW magazine out for a while

Yep, and I have one of those suckers somewhere... IIRC, it was from sometime around 1984-6. Hmm, now I'm going to have to destroy my attic looking for it

keep your browser's eyes peeled for "Willie's Junkyard"
The name is, of course tribute to Junkyard Willie of Touch Tone Terrorist infamy.

Dual PIII 1GHz / 512MB / U160 SCSI / Gentoo Linux hosted on a multihomed OC backbone (Savvis DataCenter, St. Louis, MO).

Should be operational by this Friday night.

Thanx to Epic for releasing a Linux Ded...

Edit: Oh, yeah, http://www.gentoo.org if you want to know how it's done, and real (wo)men start from stage1! And, ChumLord is the name of the bastard that will be filling your azz with flak

I've played through something like 10 times now always with Tukram, I tried a few levels with each of the others but, to be honest, Tukram was done so perfectly for my play style / interests there was no need to play with the other characters.

Heh, I most certainly did purchase my copy the very day it was released here in the states. I will admit, however, to being one of the morons that complained about lack of strafing and how terrible that was *cough*, but I got over it rather quickly and now see it as hands down the best combat system of it's type ever done.

Severence will never leave my hard disk until it can no longer be played due to hardware issues. Unfortunately, Drakan has now slipped off into this catagory for me, it was another good one

Those screenshots look terrible. That game is gonna bomb. I know graphics aren't everything but they are laughable.

They don't look terrible. They are far from cutting edge but not terrible. I have a feeling that this game will do just fine in the niche that it appeals to. I, for one, am looking forward to it. Anyting that fills the gap left behind by Severance: Blade of Darkness is most welcome in my book.
