I'd be more impressed if they did that with Duke 3D. That way someone could make a UT3 mod or other modern engine mod without 3D Realms putting the kabosh on the project. I mean I know they released the source code for the build engine... but they won't let mod makers "remake" Duke 3D in a modern engine.

Did what with Duke 3D? Because even though it's freeware and open source, they still own the copyright and could not allow remakes, although I doubt with these games anyone would mind.

Single player looks cool enough, but I don't have high expectations for multiplayer, despite the teams handling it (Threewave and Endrant)

As a web developer, I am psyched about IE8. I still can't do things like canvas, but every new version of IE just makes my little bag of tricks and workarounds that much smaller.

I thought this was a new chapter, not a remake?

Judging by some of the multiplayer details revealed, it's not going to be a remake.

Could that be referring to the netcode?

IW tore out the renderer, obviously, and replaced it with their own, completely proprietary one (Quake3 never used DX for rendering). A lot of the core stuff is still there.

http://aigamedev.com/source/call-of-duty-4-tools mentions a few similarities.

Hello heavily modified Quake 3 engine, we meet again!

Did well enough for CoD4, despite what some people here may want to argue.

Also, Raven would make more sense. They are the primary developers.

The screenshots are labeled copyright by "iD" which leaves me a little suspicious. They didn't register their business under that name, did they?

Doesn't this use a "lobby" system for players that want to connect?
How long do you typically wait?

They had a queue system for the initial rush. Now that things are settling a bit, they removed it, but disabled some of the stats tracking.

If you are going to take this stuff seriously, you really need one (A good stick, custom if you are rich or clever enough). The 360's analogue is fine for inputs being so nice and smooth, but the buttons on a pad, any pad, just do no cut it for the combos you need to pull off in anything other than casual play.

I'm never going to be good enough to warrant the $150 stick. While using it on the PC makes it a very great temptation, I don't think I'd get my money's worth out of it. Still sorely tempted, though. Especially at importing a stick from Japan, since didn't Hori have the rights there?

Was going to buy the Hori EX2 for 360 (I want a headset port if I'm playing it on the 360) but they were sold out everywhere nearby.

You can't have fast movement anymore? Is that a decree? Is that a threat? Why on Earth would he even make such a strange announcement?

While we're continuing to ask questions, did you even read the full article?

You can't have fast movement with regenerating health because it becomes extremely easy to run away and regenerate health. That's what he said. He's absolutely right in my opinion, too.

The need to put out more of the fight sticks. Demand is through the roof (as evidenced by the Fleabay prices) and playing with either console's standard controllers is painful.

Honestly, SF4's move input is lenient enough that using the analog stick isn't all that bad. Sure, in SF2 HD you are basically required to have an arcade stick, but SF4 seems a lot easier. I was planning to get a stick, or at least the fight pad, but I'm holding off for the moment. Currently using the X360 analog stick.

Can the public take them serious for this?

Does it matter? It's supposed to be entertaining, not further some cause. If the only thing people have against it is "they swear a lot!" or "there's female nudity all the time!" then I'm inclined to believe that perhaps they don't have much argument against it.

Its been out for about 3 days now. I've played it online and it's missing a really important feature: spectating. In other fighting games, you can join a lobby and spectate while you wait in line to play. In Street Fighter 4, you sit in the lobby and stare at the menu while you wait to play. This one missing feature alone is a game-breaker for me, as watching other people play is a great way to learn.

Argh. SF2 HD has this, and that was a much smaller team.

Really? One of the only things I found balanced was that vehicles were only able to be heavily damaged/destroyed by certain anti-vehicle weapons carrying classes, this is close to reality.

Reality is not balanced. I don't equate the two at all, and I certainly don't find reality to be remotely important, especially in a game like BF which is basically a non-realistic shooter in the first place. Mind you, I'm not saying an M16 should bring a tank down to half health, but I'd be happy with 3 or 4 people able to really chip away with their MGs at a tank.

The problem with making vehicles require teamwork to take down is that it makes one person in a vehicle more effective than multiple people in the field. So the other team takes a vehicle of their own. Things eventually escalate to the situation you have now in BF: people gunning each other down on runways just to get a vehicle or a plane. Or less extreme, everybody trying/wanting to be in a vehicle as often as possible.

I'm not interested in a vehicle-based shooter, which is why despite having bought and played a decent bit of BF2 ( some 34 hours according to my xfire http://www.xfire.com/profile/spongeh/ ) I am ultimately uninterested in Bad Company, what they're doing with BF1943, and surely any future games that are more direct sequels.

But I do have to ask... is it worse to be a stereotypical black game character, or have no black characters at all?

Blackfacew as based on stereotypes. There aren't many people nowadays that will think that is better than nothing.

Also, go to any gaming forum, Battlefield fans are going batshit crazy over this(including me), and it's funny how the console players just don't care about the franchise being dumbed down to hell, it's depressing really.

I don't really care, either, but if you want to make this another PC vs the Console boogeyman, then sure.

Although I *do* like that each of the 3 classes has some sort of anti-tank weapon, always hated that you essentially had to run away from a vehicle if you didn't have any explosives on you. Couldn't even scratch the armor on vehicles. If I wanted to run away from things, I'd goto a bar and try and pick up women.

Just too bad that long needed change came at the expense of other not so needed changes.

Regardless, just another (read: any) BF game that I don't really care about.
