It's ironic that when the PC Game Alliance finally does something, it's to complain about the non-porting of a decidedly mediocre console game.

Star Wars is still big money. People can wish for more games like Tribes, Fallout, Grim Fandango, etc, and while they're all well and good games for the most part, they don't hold a candle to what Star Wars means as a name/property. And it's a shame that they are whoring out the IP rather than putting thought into the game, as Jedi Academy proved it can be awesome.

If they are, expect this little movement to be filled with many insignificant companies, comparing the list at http://archive.gamespy.com/stats/ to the list at http://evenbalance.com/

...unless it's a PC game, then its open season. I hear Piracy is a good scapegoat this time of the year!

Source? Individual companies comment, but have EA?

Don't forget Counter-Strike. That was made by many of the same people who made Navy Seals for Quake 1, if I remember correctly. Not to mention CS itself was a mod at first, obviously.

If gamers are as smart as Gabe believes, then indie gaming should be a lot larger than it is now, and not filled with nearly as much crap. Especially once you get down to the level of the fan games.

Gamers know what's a good game, however that is a completely separate issue of WHY they are good.

It's rather sad all it takes is a few token good words to get people kneeling at your feet. Methinks Gabe has been watching too much of the US Election coverage this year.

I for one am sick of attitudes like Will Wright. I was walking outside of my apartment today, and a bunch of game designers flew by in their Porsches, racing each other. If they would stop speeding around with their gold chains hanging off their neck, maybe they would make a good game.

By the way folks, Spore is already a million seller. Anyone who thinks the game is bombing is lost in their own little dream world.

I was wondering when Valve got an actual good sense of humour. Then I saw Erik (Wolpaw) formerly of OldManMurray. And things were good.

b) How can it be milking a franchise for all it's worth when they have only released 1 game, no expansions or paid for DLC and the sequel is going to be at least 2 years after the first game?

You missed the memo where they changed the definition of milking from "releasing early and releasing often" to "I DON'T LIKE THEIR DECISION"

Actually no I don't. Only retards can't take 30 seconds to look up game features on their own.

I wonder what that says about the person who spends time to simply be cantankerous about it.

If a developer keeps it in mind when they are designing it then it will be designed for it.

Sorry, but positive thinking doesn't cause co-op support. This is something that has to be considered at engine level from the start, unless you're happy with something like Far Cry coop, Oblivion multiplayer, the various HL2 mods, LMS for Doom3. Which are all well and fine for user-created mods, but absolutely not at a retail level.

Mind you, most of the mods up there were developed across a number of years, with easily hundreds if not thousands of man-hours to reach that incomplete level.

The PC has enough shovelware-style multiplayer. We don't need anymore.

And I get the satisfaction of spiting Dagok by telling you that the game does have single-player in that any survivors not human controlled are AI.

cost them a lot of sales

Source? After all, if people are going to say that piracy doesn't cause lost sales, then DRM should be put up to that same scrutiny. Despite 3,173 reviews on Amazon, the game is still a million seller.

So has anyone in this thread so far actually have experience in the game industry?

It's hard not to be tainted, or at least affected, by the hype surrounding a game before release. Of course every game should be judged for what it is, but in truth games are not released in a vacuum.

Absolutely agreed. I can definitely understand people being disappointed with Spore because it's not what the game was supposed to be originally. Count me as one of those. However, that doesn't mean you completely ignore the game as it is.

If the game is fun, then the overall sentiment is "the game is fun, but nowhere near what they promised" instead of "I WILL ONLY BASE MY JUDGMENT BASED ON THEIR PROMISES!!! ALSO I EAT BABIES."

That's exactly the problem. People keep saying things like "if you take the game for what it is...". Why should we do that? I'm taking the game for what they said it would be

You're at best ignorant, and at worst a fool. You're not judging the game based on what it is? That's a statement on the level of your average gaming blog.

I don't know about you, but I prefer to judge games based on how they play. Radical thinking.

I thought the challenge rooms were equally boring and easy. I haven't had a chance to try this out yet (enjoying the LittleBigPlanet beta on a borrowed PS3 until it ends Sunday) but complaining that a 3rd party addon is hard is extremely silly, especially when one of the only real complaints lobbed against Portal was the low skill.

I grinned like a dumbass when I saw the Quake font again.

Blue/Frans: When you hit Preview Message, the subject resets back to null. Probably a simple bug, just need to carry the subject.

To bad this games already dead, as long as that shit ass DRM is in the game I wont be buying a copy. EA needs to wake the hell up and listen to their customers instead of pissing them off.

Bomb like Spore did? A couple THOUSAND 1 star reviews on Amazon didn't stop it from being the #1 selling item for 1 month running.

Unwarranted self-importance. It makes the world go round.
