rock paper shotgun article
these will all need steam accounts and lots of them.
There are no huge new releases, no harsh lockdowns in any regions with a significant population, nothing at all to explain a new CCU record.

So, since games appear unaffected, my guess is either a massive botnet hack attack or an all new marketplace exploit that has spawned a few million bots to make big bucks.
Or it's a nationwide holiday and here at least its rained none stop for 7 days so millions have the computer on instead of going outdoors.

Please stop using social media as a way to bully a company into doing what you want. How about they do something like create their own game instead of remastering for cash grabs and slapping their name on it as a developer because they "helped."

I wouldn't have worded it this way, but I have to say I actually agree. This kind of business question in the public is really inappropriate and feels like an attempt to peer-pressure Epic Games. However, Nightdive should (or maybe they do) know that Epic has already been letting the community (OldUnreal) handle the code/engine for Unreal 1, so there already has been FREE community efforts/"remasters". OldUnreal runs fine on modern Windows and even has Linux ports, I would trust them over the mixed bag efforts Nightdive have had. Opening the code to System Shock 1 was the best thing ever did imho, their System Shock 1/Strife releases were good, but not much else and a lot of it uses their weird engine instead of the original game code. And don't give them too much credit for their Quake efforts, from what I understand Nightdive just did platform stuff, aka porting it to different systems, which isn't really that special.

I don't get it, why are so many people rushing to buy a proprietary soon-to-be-obsolete version of these games when we have free and/or open community efforts in games like Quake that will out live these "remasters"/re-releases?

Also some others pointed this out too, where is their System Shock game? The one that was Kickstarted over what, 5-6 years ago now? Shouldn't they be more focused on that?

Isn't the quake remaster significantly better than everything put out there by the public?
Not really as the free public versions based around Ray Tracing blow away Quake Remaster. Why pay money for a remaster that is worse then the public free versions. They should have done a proper remaster with added Ray Tracing then they would have sold more.

As good as it may look, I'll pass. When Paradox Interactive finally decide to give some support to their games I'll reconsider but I doubt it'll even happen.
That seems like an odd thing to say in responce to one of if not the most supported games after shipping in history. Excluding MMO's I cannot think of any other other games that have had this much support as Stellaris.

I think their audience cares more about the mechanics than the graphics. The original Pit was a 2d retro style roguelike. It didn't have fancy graphics. It sold reasonably well so...

As I did not mention graphics nor was my post in reference to them but did specifically mention 4X space games, which SotS 1 and SotS 2 were, your response has no bearing on my post.

"This is not their forte and it definitely shows."

I was responding to this statement. They have done a successful Sword of the Stars: The Pit already. It had several expansions so I would say this is definitely their forte. It may not be the game for you or me...but it does have an audience.
Most of the audience that loved The Pit 1 hated the Pit Infinity another 3D version and so far this 3rd Pit game in 3D is not what the original audience wanted or liked. It seems like a bit of a gamble to me to go down this path. Is there enough of an audience for a 3D version of the pit? Perhaps they should have made a better/newer 2D version of the Pit.

phinn it sounds like you only did the main storyline quest and didn't explore or do any of the sub quests. I did 20hours before even starting the main story quests. There are aliens you can even get an alien weapon to use.

Grobschnitt said "Who can blame them when you looking at YEARS of skilling just to get even half as good as old players."
Due to the way the skill system works it takes new players about a few hours to half a day on a skill to get one skill half as good as an old player who spent 30days on the skill.

A new player could most likely get half as good as an year old player in a month or two skill wise. Perhaps a lot less with the bonues training speed.

As for those that call Eve a spreadsheet they are just being stupid and clearly has no idea what the game has turned into. Things like Sleepers inside wormhole space are hardly just a spreadsheet game.

"Eve - the quintessential spreadsheet in space - is popular (the stagnant subscriber base is testament to the space sim’s thinned popularity)"
That's a very strange definition of stagnant. A subscriber base that is going up, and up and up and up. Eve's subscriber base is anything but stagnant it's contently growing and last time I look it had hit the 3rd largest western MMO.

"Missions are lame, so there's no real questing per se."
Epic missions arch's are meant to fix that. So you do have questing.
I disagree its all about killing, I spend my time doing hacking and archaeology to dig up relics and find info about the storyline.

The biggest Eve server has over 50,000 online at once which is far more than any Wow server. Last time I looked Eve was the 3rd biggest western made MMO. Eve might not be at Wows size but its popular and successful so peope must like it.

The boring mission running system is being fixed in the March expansion with Epic Mission Arcs and the NPC AI is meant to be new, challenging and interesting. There are also the Cosmos missions that are in game now and are not boring.

Faction warfare is meant to be small scale multiplayer content that's fun if you don't want to do the large allaince stuff.

" I'd like to see them develop ways for players to do missions against each other similar to what we see in Warhammer. Being able to jump into pvp combat with a small group and play for fun makes that game a lot more interesting..."
That was what the last expansion was meant to be all about. Faction Warfare. The whole expansion focused on those small group battles. Join a faction then go against the other faction.

"For the love of Gods! Why won't they let it just lay there in peace?"
A lot of people don't want it to die, me included. OK it was buggy when it came out but that was mostly fixed and it's a stable game now.

Yes it is similar near the start but it gets much better late game with more of a variety of environments.
Not a perfect game but as a whole I thought it was very good and I would still be paying the subscription if they let me.

I really hope there is far more to it. The last expansion was a waste of time as it was really a small content patch. Now this one looks the same.

Eve online is great but this year has been extremely poor so far with real new content.

"oh yeah that sounds like loads of fun"
It means if you wonder outside civilised space into a war zone at the wrong time you might just get blown up. Yes it is lots of fun, no I am 100% safe where ever I go even if it's a warzone.

If you stay in civilised space and don't join up to go to war your pretty much 99% safe.

If your into PvE don't do endless level 4 missions those are just generic missions. Look into Cosmos areas of space with agents in space. Those are more unique missions there are also ruins, exploring, scanning e.c.t

"between the new GFX, new ships, factional warfare, new FW missions aplenty there has been content, problem with eve is not all the content fits to certain people."
What new GFX? that was last year. 4 basic T1 cruisers and FW that's all we had all year. That's the size of a small content patch not an expansion. They added FW for low sec, pretty much nothing for high sec and nothing for zero sec.

Unless you want to do some PvP in low sec next to nothing was added to the game for a very long time. True expansions should have a mix of content for various people.
Focusing expansions on one small group is silly as it means most players end up going 12+ months without content.
FW its self isn't that much content. We normally get x10 more content then this.

I much as I love Eve that was not an expansion. It barely counts as a small contact patch. I want to know what CCP are playing at we have had almost zero new content this year.

"I tried Eve. Nice game, but you have to be a student, unemployed, or rich and idle to really get into it, and sadly I am none of those.".
That's a load of rubbish because the skills train when your offline you dont have to spend hours grinding like other MMORPG's. I play a few hours here and there, you don't need tons of time.

Just because its not as good as it could be doesn't mean its shit. It's not what some people expected but it's a pretty fun game for its low price. It's being enjoyed on my LAN right now. I am sure some of you are only saying its shits as everyone else is.

It's one of the best coded games I have played. Completely bug free and smooth in my play thoug and the same for my freinds. It's one of a few games I can play without problems without needing a patch.
