Taco, I know exactly what you mean. Great game that just got unmanagable at some point in multiplayer. I remember playing a 4-player match that went 12 hours. It wasn't done by then, but we stopped playing.

Crispy,

whatever you do, DONT pick up a Radeon 9800 SE. The highlight is on "SE". Unlike the 9800 non-pro and 9800 pro, which both run with 8 active pipelines, the SE does run with only 4 pipelines. The drop in performance is brutal. I repeat, do not buy this card, you won't get your money's worth. I made the mistake of buying this card, before I realized my error (and the lacking performance) and returned it.

The 9800 non-pro seems like the best card to get right now. Still a bit pricey but great performance and features (Anti-Aliasing and Anisotropic Filtering - you can activate those even for current games and still have a smooth framerate). The pro will basically get you 70-80fps in games, where the non-pro will get you 60.

I got a laugh out of the fact that the platforms other than X-box were unable to handle the graphics for this game, it just proves again that PC's are the best platform for gaming, no matter how close consoles come to being computers themselves.

That doesn't mean that PCs are more powerful per se. It means that this game's technology was designed around the PC hardware. The technical decisions were made with the PC platform in mind specifically.
You could have an engine target the specific nature of PS2 hardware and have troubles porting it to the PC just as well.

Still, PCs get the latest in hardware, so yes, they usually come out on top after the current crop of next-gen consoles has reached an age of 1-2 years.

Despite looking dumb, it's a pretty fun shooter. You would probably be pretty happy buying it budget, but full-price only if you really enjoyed the demo.

Yep, that at least rationalizes why they would do it. The game's dead on PC.

Destroying computers by software impulse, heh. Virus Programmers and related folks would so have a field day with this kind of hardware capability.

You're wrong, Carmack did clearly state Nvidia cheated. Reread his post.

This is a programmer's issue, I wished non-programmers would stop trying to do their own technical analysis.

They already do that. The problem is you can't force everyone to trash their old hardware and buy new one. And you can't force competetition away either.

Imagine a cinemeatic fire-fighting action game produced in the style of Medal of Honor. Put in really good gameplay (doesn't have to be all realistic, could be abstract) and polished graphics. That would be a very welcome change from the usual violence games. Won't happen though. :/

I am probably going to draw a lot of looks by Tribes players, but the most annoying thing about Tribes 2 (and perhaps 1 as well) for me was the Jetpack. Lose it. The constant hovering and flying is no good for gameplay and it screws the weapons as well. Sure, the jetpack IS Tribes (you'll say), but still I think it does more bad than good for the game.

I don't know about Gothic 1, but 2 - yeah! It's got exactly what Morrowind is missing. A world that feels truly alive, interesting/diverse quests, unique NPCs and tons of recorded speech. Oh, also Gothic 2's beginning sucks a lot and is basically horrible enough that you may not even get this far. Also the controls are crap. It's a pity really, because otherwise it's just so good.

I have no idea how this game played with the original release, since I've started with 1.2. Anyway, no lag for me, the netcode is just perfectly stable.

Although this is not the case with THIS patch, it's worth noting that a lot of the NWN patches are actually not of the bug-fixing but primarily of the feature-add kind. Although there have been a lot of bugs in NWN, it's probably wrong to correlate the number of patches with NWN's buggyness state.
