The key mapping does suck. The server browser, just like BF42's, is worthless. The weapons select with the wheel scroll again skips exactly that weapon you're frantically trying to access. I can live with it because the game is stunning and a hell of a lot of fun. Re the bots, I got into a close quarter battle with 3 bots who all pulled their knives, lol! I killed two but the other just came at me like he was Jason from Friday 13th, just couldn't shake him and he got me.

Actually, you can join .7 servers after installing DC Final, which is a mini-mod.

Try the Desert Combat Realism mod. Stingers are scarce.

I normally don't like these kinds of games but this one is quite a lark. Minion management! Never considered that evil geniuses trying to take over the world needed an HR department.

Before anyone asks, this is not the mod that makes BFV fun. What is it that makes BFV suck so bad? I can't really put my finger on it. I play BF42 mods everyday and you'd think my enthusiasm for the one would carry over to the other. Instead, BF42 is one of my favorite games of all time and BFV the most hated. I'm going to give POE and EOD their opportunities. If they're not any good, off to ebay with it.

Has there been one worthy game that's used this system of distribution? Not a comment, really just asking.

I read on Planetbattlefield that the 1942 mod for BFV is going to be out within the month.

BFV is pathetic. 80% of the action is waiting near a flag and hoping you'll survive two waves of spawning enemy before capturing it. No real combat skill involved.

On the bright side, there are a couple of interesting mods in progress.

Actually, after posting here I went over to the Novalogic JO forums and many people with high-end rigs were having similar problems. I often browse the Battlefield 42 forums and see people there with excellent systems having problems. I worry for the future of PC games when devs aren't able to meet the challenge of making their games run on all possible configurations.

The demo just runs like crap, even on the lowest settings. Was anyone able to play the demo decently?

My specs:
P4 1.7
512 mb ram
4600 ti 128 mb
santa cruz sound card
xp home

edit: 4 mb cable internet connection

I guess I'm the only one who found Deadwood to be too contrived and the dialogue way too precious for its own good. McShane is definitely good. Anyone see Sexy Beast? I've been waiting a long time for Six Feet Under to come back. Nothing like a show in which every single character is seriously fucked up and fucked up in their own way (to paraphrase Tolstoy). The ending was absolutely brutal.

Mayor Dan is right. Unplugging the joystick prevents the CTD while remapping controls. He's also right that it's boring.

#12 Cable Guy,
Get the same CTD here when trying to re-map the "interact" function. Default is "I?" Huh?? It's not the ATI drivers as I have Nvidia 4600 Ti.

SST: Did last night's episode remind anyone of Twin Peaks? I could just hear the mysterious giant saying, "It is happening again" over and over. And John Heard singing "Three Times a Lady" was pure David Lynch. Yeah, Tony B.'s gonna get it. Sad because he really did want to go clean after getting out of prison.

Deadwood: Am I the only one thinking this show is getting boring?

SST:
"There was no abundant intentionality!"
This show is so versatile. Not only does it capture the rough language of the New Jersey mob, but it perfectly nails the pretentious pseudo-intellectual blather of college students. What a great show these writers could make set at a first-rate university. Plenty of opportunities for sex and conflict both between students and faculty.

Some more favorites from last night:

Meadow's anthropological analysis of conflict resolution among Italian criminal organizations.
"Do me a favor, hold this!" (SMASH!) "I saw that comin'! (laughs)"
The headstone with "PEEPS."
"Fuck the foot! It wasn't the fucking foot!"
Vito looking very very scary outside the porta-toilet. He's usually just comic in appearance. How'd they do that?
" . . . and as my parter told me, I AM carrying a full load."

Edit: Also have to mention that one of my dreams came true on Saturday. I saw the Pixies in concert in Palm Springs (I've seen Frank Black a half dozen times as well as Kim Deal's short-lived band the Amps). They played a very tight set of their most popular songs. Of course, there was no new material so no surprises but, oh those perfectly crafted songs! Hope they put out some new stuff.

Yep, that first Gore MP demo was fun as hell! The subsequent ones sucked. I would have bought the game had it been like the first.

Great line from Deadwood last night where I nearly fell over laughing: "The jury will now retire to the whores' rooms and deliberate."
