Lovecraft himself (creater of the Cthulhu mythos) was not clear on this matter, even contradicting himself in some works. The idea is, the word is supposed to be in some alien tougue that is difficult to interperet...

The accepted pronounciation among many fans is Kuh - Thoo - Loo...

When I played Duke3D and ShadowWarrior, I couldn't help but think the devs spent all their time on the first episode... the remaining levels just weren't as good. Not so with Blood.

Combine awsome levels with immensely satisfying, but balanced weapons, a wide variety of enemies (all of which could dish out the hurt extremely fast) and extremely polished, tight gameplay and you get the masterpeice that was Blood.

no, you will need to give that computer to me and buy yourself a more powerful one

Don't you mean "buy a more powerful one and give it to me"?
=D
Those specs remind me a lot of my own (almost an exact match), except I am running a P4 3.0 instead.

Ben's Take: Blood rocks. I didn't discover it until 1998 or so, and I was in heaven when I did. The gameplay is surprisingly tight, with great, brutal weapons and enemies that are fun to slay. Deathmatch is a riot, and co-op is swell too. Blood easily gets my vote as the best Build engine game. I'm surprised 3D Realms passed on publishing it, and sad that Blood 2 was garbage. Monolith should release the source so we can get a Windows version of it.

Once again... Best... Build-engine... FPS... evar!
And in my opinion, the 2nd best straight single player FPS.

It's not a warez copy either...

Are you using a copy of your CD then?
A no-CD patch?
Some other odd mod?

The my-entire-base-blows-up-after-I-start thing is the anti-piracy protection (pretty halarious if you ask me). You are doing something to set it off.

Shareware is just the old term for a really big demo.
Doom 1's first episode was shareware as well, just like Wolfenstein's first episode.

Kurtz:
If you look on the website, under the Vehicals section, you will see that both buggies are in the game. The Hummer lookalike is more of a heavy assault vehicle, while the Halo lookalike is a scout/harassment vehicle.

Entaro-adun:
I liked Tribes' vehicles, but Halo's were too light for me (a speedbump would catch you a couple feet of air...). The only exception would be the tank, which was retarded anyway... Hmmm... giant, heavily armored tank that provides absolutely no protection (any shot that hit the tank, damaged your health directly).

Actually it *does* resume, but the progress bar does not. In other words, if you download half, disconnect and then reconnect, the download will begin at the half way mark, but the progress bar will begin at 0% (so when you have downloaded 75%, the progress bar will show 50%).

Though it may be annoying to have to redownload game content, the resume on the downloads, coupled with the generally good transfer speed from Steam servers (apart from the gridlock that occured at launch) make it as painless as possible. Also- remember that Half-Life is the last game you will have to download. You will be able to install HL2 and directly integrate into Steam. No big download necessary.

Valve never gave gamers a choice not to use WON when Half-Life first came out either. That's just the way they designed their product.

As for being forced to "beta test", well, 1.5 still works and many are still playing on WON. Valve said they would keep that network running till Steam is where they want it to be... so I don't think you are really being forced at all.

Now that they have their own network system, it seems pretty silly to continue to pay WON to use theirs.

And sometimes, the game doesn't want to change levels.

Fixed with this patch.

Run by a company that can't keep its most important assets secure... check.

Hrm, I never understand the people who object to steam because they don't trust some application from Valve. Well, I hate to break it to you, but you already have an application on your computer that contacts the internet, relays information to master servers, and takes up a lot of space. It's called "Half-Life". Why people think Steam is so much worse or so much more insecure, I don't really understand.

I can't believe there are still people railing against Steam. I can't really think of one thing wrong with it... the last problem I was having (occasional timeout during map loading) was fixed with this patch.

Better interface... check.
More stable... check.
Fewer bugs... check.
Weekly support patches for anticheat... check.

Hrm...

There are a ton of people who hate that game and can't understand the possibility of anyone else having a different opinion, and some people who love the game and also can't understand anyone else having a different opinion. Hense the standard content of most Invisible War threads...

Just because you didn't like it, doesn't mean no one else is allowed to. Personally, I didn't like the demo, but I can understand people having a different opinion.
