Oh yeah, and resupply in combat should either be slower or not occur when jetpacking (make them land for 1-2 seconds). Currently, skilled jetpackers too difficult to kill. You can get them eventually, but they are able to damage the hive a lot beforehand.

Awsome patch, a few highlights:
Changed Combat respawn system. Players now respawn in bigger waves, and time to wait depends only on team size...

Excellent... smaller games were pretty messed up before.

The return of the Gorge to Combat! This should address the problem where marines can heal their CC easily while the aliens cannot.

Exactly my concern. I just hope the gorge can do something other than sit around and heal.

Fixed bug where holding walk key while cloaked sometimes allowed you to move too fast and uncloak you

Yay, I was wondering why this happened.

Halved acid rocket damage and energy cost (to make rockets more fun to use)

Sounds like a bad idea... they are weak enough as it is...

Increased Fade stats from 250/100 to 300/150 (+33% damage capacity), Increased Onos stats from 700/500 to 700/600

The fade needed this... I'm undecided about the onos though. Sometimes it seems like they go down way too fast, other times it seems like they can take a ton of damage. Carapace?

Increased cost of heavy armor to 2 levels (Combat)

Yes sir.

Increased redemption chance from 30% per second per level to 35% per second per level

It was too low. I'm not sure if this is enough... we'll see.

Changed hive healing so it now scales healing by the target's hitpoints (the hive now heals 6% of a player's hitpoints per second)

Yay, no more waiting forever for your onos to heal.

And much, much more...

What I think they should add:
-Smaller jetpack reserve or lower refill rate needed. Not a drastic change, though.
-Less stomp range, possibly more energy cost?
-More spore damage
-More acid rocket damage (hey, it's a 3rd hive ability, it should be decent). More energy cost?
-Decrease duration of being webbed
-Sensory, especially as the first upgrade, kicks way too much ass. The comm rarely has enough time to constantly scan, and a few skulks near a sense tower with focus can devistate a lot of marines (ahh the memories... heh). Perhaps make sense towers give some visual indication you are near one...? Maybe make them very loud...? I don't know, but sense needs a bit of a nerf to make it 1) fair in the beginning of a game and 2) balanced with the rest of the upgrades.
-Defence towers should also heal based on a percentage of total life, rather than a fixed amount (see above change for hive).

Is this going to play like Serious Sam? Blood? Resident Evil? What kind of pace are we talking about?

It's kinda odd that they decided to combine 10 weapons into 5 by giving them each totally unrelated secondary fire modes (rocket launcher + chaingun, stake launcher + grenade launcher, laser weapon + chainsaw...).

Woo! Dead baby thread!

How do you make a dead baby float?

One glass of Root Beer and two scoops of baby.
(if on a diet, use only one scoop)

There is no reward given by the game for killing a hooker.

As noted previously... they drop money.
Apparently some regionalized versions removed this (along with blood).

So if you aim up, you fly up? I always try to run in the direction I want to go while tapping jump, but never manage to get very far off the ground... is it because I need to aim up to get off the ground? I'll have to experiment.

I must say I kind of liked the old lerk flight, in that you had to use your downward momentum to counteract the upward force your wings gave you... it felt skillful and subtle. That said, if I have been trying to fly incorrectly in the new beta, maybe the new model is better.

What's don't you like about Aliens, Wazooty?

It's not that I don't like em... I just like em less.

The new Lerk is difficult to use for me. It seems like, when you need to get going the fastest (and so are holding down some arrow keys) you start up the slowest unless you flap like mad. I used to really enjoy lerking... I suppose I'll have to practice more.

Regeneration and (I think) redemption have been toned down as well, making it less fun to Onos...

In "Combat" mode (the new gametype for this patch) I have yet to see the aliens win... they just can't keep up with shotties, HA and motion tracking. That coupled with jetpack rushers (if there are no lerks around to spore, it can be very hard to kill them) and the fact that marines can repair the command chair while aliens can do nothing to speed the hive's regeneration give the marines an overall advantage, in my opinion. Plus, many teams just camp their bases in defensive positions till they are high level... and marines are very good at olding off aliens without many losses.

Hrm... When I think of it, I remember aliens winning once, but only cuz the entire marine team left the base unguarded...

I think it does well enough answering the question.

Basically, when Windows makes a large file on a FAT32 drive (as when making the steam cache) it does not "reset" all the space to nothing. The reason it is much faster to delete something than write something, is that deleting does not actually remove the data, it just deletes all references to the file. The space is marked as free and is overwritten the next time space is needed. Steam allocates a large block of hard drive space, and does not overwrite it immediately (as this would be very time consuming) but instead overwrites it as it gets data to fill in the space. The faq even goes on to say the old data is "never uploaded or even read by the Steam client".

That was their explanation why people were finding old file references in the steam cache before it downloaded the game data.
