News Comments > Halo 2 (Xbox) Announced
32. Halo 2 - Combat Evolved ( a bit more) Aug 8, 2002, 20:08 CFC
The press release expressly indicates that Halo 2 will be using an X-Box specific graphics engine, so if it delivers as promised it should provide probably one of the best visual experiences on the latest console technology.

It's also hardly surprising that some new PC titles, like Doom 3 look better, as they're designed to work on more powerful PCs.

The X-Box is all about providing the best possible gaming experience on a standard platform, which the 'average joe' can play on, on their own, with friends or against strangers over the Internet, without having to spend time learning about PC architecture and fiddling around with patches and drivers.

X-Box say 'play more' and I say damn straight. If Halo 2 delivers what it promises then it'll be 'fun', not just a demonstration of graphical/hardware prowess.

Regarding Breed, it's been in development for a long time, so it seems pretty damn unfair to be calling it a 'Halo clone' or inferior before anyone gets a chance to play it. Since it's being developed by an independent studio, who wanted to design a game engine that freed up the creativity of the artists and designers, it's likely to take alot of people by surprise, who expect the usual FPS fodder. It's also clearly an entirely different type of FPS game from Halo with more tactic/operational elements.

Although. I'm not surprised to see the old and now tedious debate about PCs .v. Consoles appearing again, it's probably worth pointing out that it will be a console that finally makes a online gaming an accepted pastime around the world, rather than leaving it relegated to being a quirky news story that BBC online runs whenever it doesn't have anything else worth reporting about in the Technology section.
