"constructed from the replies from Valve to various emails about the upcoming shooter sequel"

Yep, that info has just been culled from HalfLife2.Net's forums... http://www.halflife2.net/forums/showthread.php?s=0e15cd2d40f8a25fdff2623540c422a4&threadid=1298&perpage=15&pagenumber=1

Yeah, nice graphics, but all the 'space dust' looks like it's raining all the time... hope I can turn that off/make it less dense...

For what it's worth, I was playing Unreal 2 with every effect turned on "high" and I didn't experience a single bit of stutter, frame droppage, or tearing. Everything worked perfectly.

Really? Hmm. I've got exactly the same system as you (1.4Ghz, GeForce 3, 512, etc), and I had to run it at 800x600 with about medium detail, except that bit in the middle with the laser that was reflecting off those conveniently placed blocks (!), when I had to go down to 640x480 and low level... I must be doing something wrong

That's right - I remember in one of John Carmack's .plans that he only got something like a 7% increase in framerate when enabling SMP...

That's a good point - we're not used to games with such a high level of interactivity, and as you say it may not be obvious. We'll probably spend the first few days playing levels as if they were designed in a real McGyver way! I think when the SDK comes out I'll make a Mousetrap mod...

Hey Dr. Haggard,

As far as I saw, the flying-buzzing-thingies (Manhacks according to Gabe) movie was only ever available as a streaming file from here (mms://a576.m.akastream.net/7/576/5372/1/gamespot.download.akamai.com/5372/netshow/gslive/300k/e32k3-halflife2_pce32003_4dn.asf). It wasn't part of the 600MB quicktime file. And as the Bink files so far have only been from the main movie, I don't know if your fave is going to be converted

being developed by Infinity Ward, a newly formed studio that includes 22 of the individuals who previously developed Medal of Honor

Can't developers sit still after they've finished a game? We'll soon be running out of names for the number of studios/development houses/etc that are set up, release a single game (or no game at all) and then fold
