Wouldn't a better headline be "JAWS: Unleashed Put Back on the Leash"?

EDIT: The offense has been corrected, so in true spirit I'm removing all evidence. You have been absolved of your sins. Plus you got the total consciousness thing going for you, which is nice.

A week ago, in jest, I said to a friend "Christ, why do these people have to make a federal case out of this?"...

...I'll be damned, they literally made a federal case out of it.

Like this is surprising news. Hitman always gets delayed, but it's always been worth the wait. I'm fine with that, but if it slips any later than spring 2006 I'm going to get a little impatient.

As good of faith as I have for DICE, I got seriously burned by the 1.01 patch, and am going to wait for the EA official servers to go over to 1.02 before I install it.

Ive had an MX510 for about a half a year now and it's my favorite mouse so far. The 518 is basically the same thing with a higher dpi resolution (1600). I *highly* recommend it, especially for battlefield 2. The 10 buttons really help make the complexity of BF2 become second instinct:

Left Mouse: Fire
Right Mouse: Secondary/Zoom
Thumb: Primary Rose Menu (very useful for quick "push both buttons at same time to spot something")
High Thumb: Map/Commander View
Wheel up: next weapon
Wheel Down: prev. weapon
Wheel click: push-to-talk
Above Wheel button: Secondary Rose Menu
Below Wheel button: Commander push-to-talk
2nd below wheel button: Zoom map

Why is it that these companies can put out a bug free console game but they feel that it's acceptable to just issue patches for PC games because they can?

You answered your own question. Because they can.

with the approximately six hour episodes to be released "every three to four months" for around $20 each.

$20 x 6 = $120. Computer games are not a god damn service. I know that the real money is in providing services and they are trying to turn software into a service. I won't pay to play. Strike two.

I believe you misread the story. These are individual episodes that have approximately 6 hours of gameplay each, not 6 1-hour episodes. They didnt specify how many episodes total there is, so the $20 x 6 argument is invalid. However, Your point on computer games not being a service is still valid and well taken.

BF2 does NOT sport a spiffy new engine. It is the same '42 engine that has been modified.

Um, no, it is an entirely new engine from the ground up. Refer to any one of the many Q&A's with the developers, most recently the one done on Gamespy with the Exec. Producer

Here you go loyalites:

http://apelint.xclan.org/~sliver/Battlefield_2_Demo.exe

This server takes about 20 seconds to connect to (looks like it's on an artificial wait timer) but I got 4Mb/s off it.

Hope that helps for getting the demo. Good Luck!

Early impressions throughout the web are really bad.
That's really surprising, because I was at E3 and the demo there was rock solid, and the only bugs I could find had to do with the map and commander mode, and they were both minor visual ones.

Damn the sardonic evils of the perpetual cynics, I had a blast playing it at E3 and I'm still looking forward to it

Supposedly, Fileplanet, X-Fire, and Yahoo are all banned from redistributing the demo for 24 hours.

This sounds like rumor to me. Fileplanet is usually this slow on these kinds of things. I'm a Fileplanet subscriber, but I use bittorent when I need something right now.

Should be OK, you're going to have some serious load times with only 512MB RAM. I just upped mine to 2GB because I hear even 1GB has a lot of swapping problems.

At the risk of outing myself as a non-geek... wtf is a sha1 hash?

It's like an MD5 hash, but stronger. Mostly used in LDAP.

If you don't know what an MD5 hash is, it's a fingerprint that lets you check if a file has been altered from it's original. If you run md5sum on a file, you get a hash back, and if it matches what everyone else's is, then you know it's not corrupted and/or hasn't been tampered with (had a virus added, etc.)
