Absolutely. This game is all about atmosphere. Close all the curtains, turn up the sound, set up that 7.1 surround sound (though oddly enough DOOM won't do surround unless I downgrade it to 5.1, damn!) and get lost in it.
I've loved every minute of it, from the Half-Life esque boring yet suspenseful orientation to the moment when all hell breaks loose, the game just doesn't let up.
It's no wonder it took them so long to do this game. It just screams polish. From the small details to the interactive terminals to the intensely detailed environments. I now fully understand why this game took so god damn long
Getting overly immersed in the game is way too creepy. I'm sure my neighbors are wondering why I keep screaming expletives when those imps jump out from their various spots (And someone at iD is WAY too good at using misdirection tactics to scare the living crap out of you.)
Overall, I haven't been so immersed in a game since HL and Thief 2. It's a truly visceral experience. I've only taken a break to write these first impressions because my heart can't take anymore for a little while after those first three hours. I'm all out of adrenaline.
Scare Count: 2
Expletives yelled at imps: 14
Shock Count: Um, I lost count
