Some don't read TFA.

1. Some who have upgraded to the free version.

2. The setting is not, in fact, obvious: "uncheck the box for "Get fun facts, tips, tricks and more on your lock screen." "

I am sure they paid their lawyers hundreds of thousands to see if they could get away with ads under "and more!", which, to the common yokel, might seem like more as in things similar to facts, tips, and tricks, and not a catch all for everything else under the sun.

I wish the City of Heroes people had made private servers possible.

Doesn't matter how many or few played this game -- they may be able to continue.

Some ever think they are getting old and sounding that way?

We never needed an Atari 2600, but video games still happened without a need. Yes it is costly, but Oculus has shown there is an initial demand at the price they are asking for, which is very common with consumer electronics. They start high and come down.

Lets stick with flat panels and continue to poo poo more things than cheer for, that makes as much sense. What must have game has really come out for flat panels in the past few? Since they won't advance AI/Physics very much, it's pretty much all the same. Good, but the same, a little boring and plenty of jaded gamers.

Most people never owned an Atari. And once PCs became predominant for work everyone got one, gaming was just a bonus. There may be 10s of millions of console sales but there are billions of PC sales. That's the difference between need and want.

I can tell you right now no one in Canada will be buying one of these things at $1100 a pop. Then throw in another $1500 dollar PC needed for it and yeah, you can forget about it unless you have money to burn.

You do realize Rift's are back-ordered at this point? Meaning demand greater than supply? You do realize people pay 1000's for pc's? You do realize people pay $100's for virtual space ships? Price isn't the most important thing, right now the most important thing is that this is a really good device(s).

There are many levels of pc gamers now you are just trying to find a low denominator and stating "They won't", but as someone who brought up 3DFX, there is the hard core and they will carry the day early on and we'll see if it has legs.

Also mentioned with the 3dfx was Quake, but that actually didn't come out for a while after release. Once the big one drops it will be history and you, me and everyone will be there. I remember real early on people didn't know or understand what a gpu was doing, until they seen.

That said, there is no guarantees, but there will be a lot of buyers to get this going and I think developers will be there as they look for new markets to make their fortune on.

These $800 oh noes! objections are almost as lame as the people who rage around at the thought of paying $15/month to play an MMO for 30 hours a week.

You NEETs can hobble off to the basement corner where you belong. Meanwhile those of us with real jobs may very well spend $700 in 1955 to be the first on the street to have a TV.

Only I want to see games I actually want to play. And are they gonna cram a console controller down my throat? These are the real factors.

Around three dozen films adaptations of video games have been churned out by Hollywood so far, and the best we've gotten

"...we've gotten"?

This assumes anybody was asking, besides clowns in Hollywood looking to make a quick buck off irredeemably uncultured socially misfit "gamers".

I'm sorry, friends. My bonnet is full of bees this evening.

Are these in game money or bought with real world money?

And random loot boxes, I utterly refuse to spend real money on these.

We had a new Pentium Pro machine at work, so got Duke (and later, Quake) to exercise it.

Used to play online at T.E.N. Total Entertainment Network, which had written an Internet piggyback for the LAN code. I think that's a porn site now. :-/

Beating the final guy was a cheer worthy moment, which I have never felt in any other game, especially since I started the end out of ammo except for the machine gun and didn't know to shoot the blimp.

I also recall seeming endless hours of working your way up the desert mountain to gain access to the alien ship, all the while this eerie warning siren was going off, and it leaving you feeling very forlorn and hopeless. This is what amplified the joy of the final win. Good job, and Game Over!!!!!

But will there be boobs? Or are boobs inappropriate for children?

She made some good points. I just disagree on the lingeree bit. I can see the point, but a game is about relaxation and fun.

And even ignoring lingeree per se, I love the fashion aspect of it. City of Heroes alt-itis was all about fashion and themes, and not just the skimpiest outfit you could create. It is a struggle in Star Wars: The Old Republic to do fashion. You have three choices: hulking armor, a freaking ugly Jedi coverall robe, or some slave bikini variant (name changed to dancer).

With various non-workman pants and skirts, and a more cover uppish top, you can approach real stylin'.

How about a game where we seek revenge for the death of our beloved, slaughtered City of Heroes?

is there a game worth buying yet?

NO. There are a few quests and that's it. More than people know, because they talk without playing it. I've spent a few hours playing. But it's not a whole game yet. It is like a DayZ alpha type of situation where everyone has their fun running around in the wild west.

That said, if anyone wanted a deal, they needed to buy the sale packages that just went by. The price of the game is probably going to double now.

I was ready to pay over a hundred to Mechwarrior Online to buy an Atlas. Thank god for the open beta and the insane decision for no single player. Not an mmorpg, just another online battle arena.

Here, I wait. I want to know what the gameplay is. Pure PvP?

I remember some ancient no-copy tricks. One was to produce physically damaged floppies and try to write to the damaged sector. If it succeeded, it was a copy.

And the Atari 800 floppy drive had a section it could read but not write. So people would produce floppies and read unlock permission from that section, but people couldn't copy and create a new floppy that way. Unless you had an off-brand floppy drive, that is.

Now I just need a game I want to actually play that supports it.

WoW?

SW: TOR?

That's pretty much it. Oh well.

I have two Eve accounts for two-boxing. How fast can I switch the games inside the headset?

This was the first SJW-approved game because women weren't second class citizens, forbidden by men from taking off their tops, too.

I hope social justice doesn't go in reverse.

DS admitting he is wrong? Please, you want some elves for that fanciful fantasy?

That's pretty damn impressive, but personally I don't care about planets with nothing interesting on them (See Elite Horizons or even KSP) to me that is super lazy game development. Procedural content is not real content, its just fluff that hides that there is nothing underneath the surface of a game in terms of content. But then some people love that in elite.. just hope SC is not going that route. And hey, as KSP shows us, handcrafted height-map based planets (so no caves or arching rock formations) with zero detail ain't better either...

Procedural planets are just the start. Go read Reamde from Neal Stephenson. In there, they have a massive virtual world where planets are not just procedural in a fractal sort of way, but generated from real-world physics, lava and volcanism and plate techtonics, with real, natural depositon of resource veins, and populated by real functioning ecosystems and evolution.

Imagine a still better world where there is a nation of a hundred million orcs, and they are resource hungry and nasty and spreading. No "spawn points", real virtual organisms breeding and spreading and harvesting and building and...harvesting you because you are in the way.

Where is that freaking game? Screw spawn points and theme parks and tank/heal/dps and magically reapearing resource nodes and inability to climb anything.

Gameplay has not evolved from the tank model in well over 20 years. Which would matter if games weren's solo oriented, making bots even easier.
