I disagree about Internet -- it's a proper noun name of a definite thing. Shall we not capitalize White House?

The game itself looks fun, but my interest in multiplayer gaming is diminishing. Theyll definitely capture a younger audience. And now for satire:

Interviewer Chris for PNN asks Trumper and Hitlery VP, "Should women cosplayers be punished for Tracer butt posing?"
"Look, There has to be some form of punishment,” Trumper says seriously.
"Agreed, those girls can't do that!" Hitlery yells maniacally.

"This is not World of Warcraft in space!"

"It's much more sophisticated."

My bet is a MOBA as described. I thought this was out already. What is Heroes then? Nahhh, I don't wanna know.

At its core, cultural appropriation is treating cultures like a pick-and-mix grab bag of ideas for the dominant majority culture (almost always white)

That's that article in a nutshell. White liberal guilt hipster denounces Whitey as the source of all that's bad in the world. Gee, shocker. Rolleyes

This guy said it really well....

That's how cultural exchange works - you use bits and pieces from other groups of people and fuse it with other stuff. Sichuan cuisine, for example, exists because somebody brought hot peppers from the Americas over to China, where they were promptly assimilated and woven into the cuisine. Or think of fusion cuisine in general, like the food trucks that combine Korean and Mexican food around here.

It only feels like appropriation to me if you're actually claiming to be the original source of something. But I read a lot of broad accusations of it.

And this guy....

I've heard Mexican people saying they don't give a flying fuck if others want to celebrate Día de Muertos. And here we have Halloween parties, completely out of context.

I'm from Argentina. One of the latest winners of the Tango World Cup was a japanese couple. You won't hear ANYONE complain about japanese people "appropriating" our culture. On the contrary, people here are happy our stuff is known all over the world. Even Schwarzenegger doing random shit to the tune of Por una Cabeza in True Lies is only ever seen as funny. I don't think I know ANYONE who was offended by that.

Exactly. Man, this new bullshit PC era so needs to fucking die...yet again.

I can't believe I'm responding to you, but you picked the beginning sentences and ignored the rest.

Cultural appropriation is taking someone's culture and treating it like a costume or a gimmick. There's a stark difference between that and exchanging ideas, such as your sichuan example.

It is called borrowing an idea. It is one thing to make a racist portrayal, and quite another to borrow a colorful attire because it looks nice. Or cool. Or scary.

There is nothing wrong with that. It is a made up offense that people have to be "educated" to take offense at, and only then can you play an asinine guilt game with the "offenders" of the newly-educated "offendee".

YES!

Cultural appropriation is basically a bullshit excuse for angry people to get "offended" and worked up over. You A) Have no right to not be offended, despite what a lot of people think and B) actually have to choose to be offended. Which is a lot more work that just ignoring things that probably have nothing to do with you in the first place.

It is racist to say I cannot put on a headdress because I am not an American Indian (and I never have) but that I am permitted to put on a top hat and tails because I am a white guy and that's my culture!

Shall I rage around demanding no non-whites wear that? Oh, how racist the Japanese ambassador was during WWII, wearing such?

WTF people! This is a completely fraudulent meme born of runaway white man's guilt.

Current hack & slash games employ countless statistics that change the mechanics by a percentile in a continuous fashion. Book of Demons features multiple discrete player and monster mechanics that can be combined in a virtually infinite number of interesting ways to create near endless replayability.

This could be interesting. Wrist bracelet "upgrades strength by 3 points AKA 0.02% damage" is the lazy devs' easy-balance design. God how I miss City of Heroes where you could slot entire extra powers into other powers.

Tried going back last month, my highest character was 22 with Tier 2 greensteel weapons.

Everybody runs everything on ultra mega hyper elite legendary, just one step below the highest setting, and blows through stuff that three-shots me in my pitiful 65 AC armor.

My healer can heal but is so wimpy even with a similar AC she has to avoid getting hit more than once. I have fearsome armor, and get yelled at when things hit me and run away. Seems this slows down their murder wave of destruction.

Most of the good stuff is sold on a second auction house for crystals alternate money that you can buy. Fortunately it is pretty cheap, but I haven't used it yet.

Of course, nobody needs healing because they can all heal themselves, not sure how, I am guessing everyone has UMD up to enough for major cure wants.

Some don't read TFA.

1. Some who have upgraded to the free version.

2. The setting is not, in fact, obvious: "uncheck the box for "Get fun facts, tips, tricks and more on your lock screen." "

I am sure they paid their lawyers hundreds of thousands to see if they could get away with ads under "and more!", which, to the common yokel, might seem like more as in things similar to facts, tips, and tricks, and not a catch all for everything else under the sun.

Some ever think they are getting old and sounding that way?

We never needed an Atari 2600, but video games still happened without a need. Yes it is costly, but Oculus has shown there is an initial demand at the price they are asking for, which is very common with consumer electronics. They start high and come down.

Lets stick with flat panels and continue to poo poo more things than cheer for, that makes as much sense. What must have game has really come out for flat panels in the past few? Since they won't advance AI/Physics very much, it's pretty much all the same. Good, but the same, a little boring and plenty of jaded gamers.

Most people never owned an Atari. And once PCs became predominant for work everyone got one, gaming was just a bonus. There may be 10s of millions of console sales but there are billions of PC sales. That's the difference between need and want.

I can tell you right now no one in Canada will be buying one of these things at $1100 a pop. Then throw in another $1500 dollar PC needed for it and yeah, you can forget about it unless you have money to burn.

You do realize Rift's are back-ordered at this point? Meaning demand greater than supply? You do realize people pay 1000's for pc's? You do realize people pay $100's for virtual space ships? Price isn't the most important thing, right now the most important thing is that this is a really good device(s).

There are many levels of pc gamers now you are just trying to find a low denominator and stating "They won't", but as someone who brought up 3DFX, there is the hard core and they will carry the day early on and we'll see if it has legs.

Also mentioned with the 3dfx was Quake, but that actually didn't come out for a while after release. Once the big one drops it will be history and you, me and everyone will be there. I remember real early on people didn't know or understand what a gpu was doing, until they seen.

That said, there is no guarantees, but there will be a lot of buyers to get this going and I think developers will be there as they look for new markets to make their fortune on.

These $800 oh noes! objections are almost as lame as the people who rage around at the thought of paying $15/month to play an MMO for 30 hours a week.

You NEETs can hobble off to the basement corner where you belong. Meanwhile those of us with real jobs may very well spend $700 in 1955 to be the first on the street to have a TV.

Only I want to see games I actually want to play. And are they gonna cram a console controller down my throat? These are the real factors.

Around three dozen films adaptations of video games have been churned out by Hollywood so far, and the best we've gotten

"...we've gotten"?

This assumes anybody was asking, besides clowns in Hollywood looking to make a quick buck off irredeemably uncultured socially misfit "gamers".

We had a new Pentium Pro machine at work, so got Duke (and later, Quake) to exercise it.

Used to play online at T.E.N. Total Entertainment Network, which had written an Internet piggyback for the LAN code. I think that's a porn site now. :-/

Beating the final guy was a cheer worthy moment, which I have never felt in any other game, especially since I started the end out of ammo except for the machine gun and didn't know to shoot the blimp.

I also recall seeming endless hours of working your way up the desert mountain to gain access to the alien ship, all the while this eerie warning siren was going off, and it leaving you feeling very forlorn and hopeless. This is what amplified the joy of the final win. Good job, and Game Over!!!!!

She made some good points. I just disagree on the lingeree bit. I can see the point, but a game is about relaxation and fun.

And even ignoring lingeree per se, I love the fashion aspect of it. City of Heroes alt-itis was all about fashion and themes, and not just the skimpiest outfit you could create. It is a struggle in Star Wars: The Old Republic to do fashion. You have three choices: hulking armor, a freaking ugly Jedi coverall robe, or some slave bikini variant (name changed to dancer).

With various non-workman pants and skirts, and a more cover uppish top, you can approach real stylin'.
