Bethesda said something very similar before they screwed over Human Head Studios on Prey 2. This sounds very much like internal politics and someone at corporate trying to "send a message" to the developers.

How is canceling a piece of shit game "screwing over". Bethesda would be one of the last places to NOT want a return on their investment.
If they do cancel projects then it must really be massively shitty. If the developer can't do a better job then you cut the fuckers loose. Good riddance. Simple as that.

Look up Rogue Warrior if you want to see only one of the many horrible games that Bethesda has put their name on. Not to mention how virtually every one of their open world games has shipped with massive bugs, many of which take modders to fix. I wrote a thing about this back at the time. Pray 2 may have had issues (no one really knows) but Bethesda is not the world's most virtuous company.

Popehat did an analysis of this situation. In short: Both sides are being stupid in different ways.

Lots of reports that the patch is hosing down performance.

I've already beaten the game but I fired it up just now to check. Seems fine on my machine (overclocked i7-2600K and overclocked 970) but maybe the new patch has issues with certain hardware or something.

Oh, no, of course the story is shit. I mean gameplay-wise, it is up there among the worst of all time. They should have just made the whole thing after you destroy Scrotus' war rig a cinematic, that would have been preferable.

Oh yes, the final battle is just...yeah.

Hot damn, vehicle rolling! I finally got around to finishing the story earlier today and uninstalled... But now I kinda wanna go back and see if it really makes the difference I think it would.

P.S. Yeah, the ending is as fucking awful as everyone says it is.

The story in the game is nothing special but it is pretty much exactly a Mad Max story, including the ending. Fury Road doesn't end all that differently.

I am not at all impressed with this so far. Small maps, only a couple of true ways to approach them and most of the game play involves turtling up and waiting and waiting and waiting, then having a couple of short firefights and match over. It also looks halfway between last gen and current gen graphics wise.

You have to be into the narrative exploration/walking simulator genre. It's a gorgeous game and as someone who isn't normally a fan of the genre, I really liked it because the story is engaging and an incredible mind job at the end. I very much disliked Dear Esther and Gone Home but I thought this was pretty cool. I might run it again with the updated version.

Every time Apple announces a new Apple TV, the iPress put out these articles. They did the same thing when companies announced iOS and Android controllers. And every time, no one gives a damn.

Torchlight 2 was boring as fuckin hell. An entirely by-the-numbers affair with competence abound but utterly lacking in imagination. Torchlight represented a solid foundation that its sequel totally failed to expand upon.

So they were competing with Diablo 3 after all!

Well, it's far better under the hood than 7 is in pretty much every way. Also free but that's a second reason. This is all assuming you're not swallowing all the privacy FUD.

The Windows 10 spying stuff is FUD. I've said it before and I'll say it again as long as you keep spreading your paranoia FUD: If you use a modern smartphone or a social network, you're giving away more personal information every day than Windows 10 gets from you and it's being packaged up and sold without your knowledge or consent to very dubious companies you never know about. The celebrity nude leaks last year were a direct result of security holes in iCloud. Strange how people weren't flipping their lids at Apple. Double standards much?

I happily use Windows 10 and I say this as someone who refuses to use Facebook, largely for privacy reasons. What it does collect is anonymous and only used in aggregate and you can turn almost all of it off. If the information it collects is too much for you, you might as well just start living "off the grid" because you're leaking more sensitive info pretty much constantly to people with far less scruples.

And how. The amount of insane FUD and panic being spread about what Windows 10 collects, largely from people who probably narrate their entire lives on Facebook from their smartphones is so lacking in self-awareness, it's almost funny.

Cory Doctorow's career of feeding paranoia for clicks continues.

As someone who is using Windows 10 on multiple systems, most of these privacy concerns are very overblown. There are settings enabled by using Express Settings that shouldn't be but if you take 5 seconds to do Custom Settings, most of it can be turned off. And it still pales in comparison to the volumes of information all social networks and smartphone platforms are collecting and monetising without your knowledge. That people are acting as if this is some horrible new privacy breach that hasn't been done before aren't paying attention. If this bothers you, don't ever use Facebook, Twitter or your iPhone.

So much for the 5000% games improvement boost. Honestly, where do people come up with this shit.

Synthetic tech demos are nothing to go on in case you've not been around...

Those performance boosts are supposed to come with DirectX 12 and there are no DX12 games yet.

Also, everyone's experience varies of course but I've installed Windows 10 on my Lenovo L540 laptop, my gaming/video PC, my girlfriend's 5 year old, Windows 7 Toshiba laptop that's never been reloaded and two T100 tablets with no issues, other than having to reinstall my video drivers and one sound utility on my desktop. I'm frankly stunned it worked on my desktop as I have tons of weird utilities on there I use in video production that I didn't think would handle an upgrade. Worked perfectly. /shrug

Also, while some of the telemetry stuff in Windows 10 is kind of crappy, if you've ever used a smartphone, free e-mail service or social network, you're already giving away far more information on a daily basis to companies whose sole intent it to monetise it without your permission. And with most of those, you can't turn it off like you can in Windows 10. Anonymous telemetry data is small potatoes compared to how much data Facebook monetises and people happily narrate their entire lives on there.

As good as their results were, the thing one should always pay attention to with Apple is not what they say but what they don't say. If they don't brag about how well something did, it means they're disappointed with it. They apparently didn't talk much about iPads (mostly cause sales are way down) and they didn't talk about Apple Watch sales figures. Given the general apathy towards them the last while, it's pretty safe to say they're disappointed in them. As most people expected, smart watches are largely a distraction measure by manufacturers who've run out of new crap to cram into phones and tablets.

Yeah the no DLC statement was a bit surprising.
It's almost like Dirt Rally was just kind of a side project for them just to see if there's any interest. Kind of like Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon

I'm pretty sure that's exactly what it was. It came out of nowhere on PC only, in Early Access (at a discount too, the way Early Access should be done) and though it's been doing well, they haven't been talking about it much. Codemasters has been hurting real bad the last few years (mostly cause almost all their non-racing titles the last couple of years have been awful) and are pretty much doubling down on their racing series to survive at this point. A lot of DiRT fans didn't like how the series was getting further and further away from proper rally the last couple of games. This feels like a small team managed to convince a manager to let them try this out on some downtime or something to show them they people did want proper rally games. Based on what I've played so far, they've definitely succeeded. I hope this does well for them and maybe gets a wider release.
