A company whose lack of competent management is legendary in the industry and Starbreeze is throwing $8M at them. Mind you, despite Broken Age, Massive Chalice and SpaceBase DF-9, people still lined up to fund them on Fig so I guess why not. As someone who backed that Broken Age disaster for $100 back in the day and just 3 months ago received the box copy that was part of my reward tier, I chuckled. I'll be amazed if this game ships on time and isn't a mess like Broken Age was. Tim Schafer and Double Fine succeed in spite of themselves. I hope this game is good but I have zero confidence it will be.

The story in Mafia III was the only reason I finished it. I loved the first game and even liked the second but the open world in this one was so empty and boring. It felt like an open world from the PS2 era. I really regret buying it at full price. I'd rather they improve the game play than the story.

This just in, Tim Sweeney is still a massive hypocrite, making claims with no evidence and that as yet, haven't borne any fruit. Hey Tim, we gonna' be able to buy Epic titles through Steam instead of your garbage launcher soon? Oh right.

It was horrible at launch. Looked dated, 30Hz netcode and cheaters everywhere. Since then, they added a high-res texture pack, the netcode is now 60Hz and BattleEye has all but eliminated cheating. The game gets frequent updates, including major balance changes and new maps. Matchmaking times have been substantially reduced lately too.

As for in-game currency, it's completely optional. You can earn enough renown to buy a non-DLC operative in about an hour of play (less if you win frequently) and 4-5 hours for the DLC operatives. You can unlock every operative in around 20 hours without ever buying DLC. I bought the first season pass on a huge sale because I was lazy but since then, I've earned enough renown through playing that I could have unlocked every operator if I wanted. I haven't spent a cent on premium currency. Anything beyond operator unlocks is cosmetic.

I took a hard pass on this when it came out but a crew from work pushed me to buy it and a I found a PC physical copy at Best Buy for $19. I've played over 70 hours of multiplayer, play it with my work friends almost every night and don't see that changing any time soon.

Don't go by how it was at launch, it's a whole other experience now. I haven't had this much fun with a smaller team game since SWAT 4.

Time to get my crew from work together and boost our win/loss ratio by stomping a bunch of new players who think this is like Counter-Strike.

I'd like to see this happen too, with a not crap engine and also with Obsidian writing it instead of Bethesda's crappy in-house writing team. But Bethesda burned Obsidian so badly, I'd be amazed if they were involved. And they'll be riding that 2006 version of GameBryo (sorry, "The Creation Engine") into the ground.

It's not a defence but it's a demonstration of people's epic double standards, especially since many of the things I listed above are things where people pay for the privilege of being spied on in a much more intrusive way, unlike the current majority of Windows 10 installs.

If you're concerned about anonymous, high-level telemetry data, I hope you don't use a smartphone, cellular provider, social network, free e-mail service, loyalty card, credit card, any kind of ad-supported web site or modern AAA video game ever. Because any one of those is tracking more data in a more identifiable way than Windows 10 is.

Source: I work in IT and have studied this extensively as I get asked about it by clients regularly.

When they pulled some other Marvel related stuff from sale a while back, it's cause they lost the license. I wouldn't be surprised if whoever owns TMNT now yanked it from them, either because it reviewed so poorly or because it didn't hit a sales target.

Finding a Mario game offensive is when you know you've hit rock bottom on your crusade. Also, did they just assume Mario's gender? Shameful.

Next the writer will find Tetris shapes to be too phallic.

Ben Kuchera from Polygon already wrote something a while back about how because Tetris was made in communist Russia, playing it is tantamount to endorsing those ideals or something like that.

I think this writer is ridiculous and like most moral crusaders of years past, is trying to make a name for themselves by assuming the world needs to pander to their ridiculous personal hangups. Demanding games change to suit your personal sensibilities (or those of a group you have appointed yourself to represent) is no different than what Jack Thompson did, it's just got a different hat this time.

If a piece of art offends you, you have two options: Don't consume it or make your own that tells what you want it to and make it successful. Whining in an op-ed is the worst kind of slacktivism. But doing real work to invoke change is hard.

News Comments > Star Citizen Engine Switch; Alpha Released for Backers
13. Re: Star Citizen Engine Switch; Alpha Released for Backers Dec 24, 2016, 14:05 Parallax Abstraction

Someone else already pointed it out but they're not really switching engines DNF style. Lumberyard is a fork of CryEngine and is more or less the same thing. They're likely making that switch because Crytek is all but dead at this point. The reason Crytek didn't go under the last time they had money problems is because Amazon paid them $75M to basically buy CryEngine outright, everything except the actual copyrights. That's why CryEngine is actually free now, except for premium support, because Amazon made Lumberyard free.

The reason CIG is switching to this is likely because Crytek is all but dead now. They just closed all but 2 of their studios, after months of payroll issues. Crytek took the money Amazon gave them and blew it making VR games. VR games that no one bought because so few people have bought headsets that it's almost impossible to make money on VR games unless a headset maker bankrolls it for you.

I have little faith in Star Citizen but all this took me 5 minutes to figure out. Of course, proper research is too much to ask of the gaming press these days, especially when it's easy to generate clicks with a controversial headline. Bottom line though is that CIG isn't really switching engines, they're just switching to the Amazon version of it because Crytek will probably be bankrupt within a few months.

so 0.53% of revenues over 5 years will be 750 million dollars. Now watch them squirm, and start hiking rates for the rest of Canadians as an excuse for having to serve all Canadians.

Last I checked broadband internet had a +98.5% profit margin. But we all know how Canadian telcoms operate, so just watch the crying wolf about to start.

Apparently a good chunk of this fund is coming from a fund the companies are still paying into to provide landline service to rural Canada. The CRTC is repurposing that fund because no one cares about landlines any more. But yeah, the telecartels will probably still find a reason to hike rates and say "Well blame Trudeau's socialist CRTC!"

So by this she means run a crowdfunding drive for a couple of million bucks and then just absconds with the money? That sound about the size of it?

And VW finds this pretty funny because after Jan 20th it'll all disappear. It's carte blanche for the corporations for the next 4 years in America. Welcome back to the gilded age of the robber barons.

What money has Brianna Wu kickstarted and absconded with? Her crappy game only generated $13k, and it's been released, so...

But this is the kind of sloppy, irrational hate I expect. Plenty of reasons to dislike Wu, who is perfectly dislikeable on her own, but people keep feeling the need to invent new ones.

Dude, her game was delayed. That doesn't just happen in this industry to people I disagree with.

The PC port of her game (which is all that Kickstarter was for) was massively delayed by years and while the game itself is pretty awful, the PC port was absolute hot garbage that was basically abandoned after going up on Steam. Not to mention how she's been getting thousands a month from Patreon to supposedly hire and pay someone to deal with all the harassment she claims to be getting, a person who by all accounts, probably never existed.

I mean hey, be smug if you want but aside from her insufferable personality and injecting herself into controversies on purpose in order to generate attention for herself, she's also a terrible developer and quite likely, a fraud.

OBS and Folding@home have both been unreliable or outright broken on NVIDIA drivers since the Summer. OBS had issues with AMD too and AMD fixed it almost immediately. NVIDIA keeps saying they're "looking into it", even though literally the same driver revision broke both functions and one would think it would be relatively easy to look at what they changed and fix it. As a $1,000 1080 owner, I'm far from pleased. When it comes to drivers, these two companies have changed places.

Crytek always a dirty company, some say run by the Hungarian mob. They created 2 games worth anything, Farcry, and Crysis they fucked up Farcry to the point where Ubisoft got all the code for the engine and the IP because they were so late.

Then fucked up Crysis 2 and 3 for the same reasons with EA, late and shitty. I was hoping Amazon would buy them but I think the dirty strings of EU mob ties are so deep that it is not worth it.

To my friends at Crytek sorry boys it sucks. When you quit scream KEYSER SOOOOOOOOOZE for me!

Any source on that mob stuff? I'm really curious to read about that if so.

Ugh, such click bait on that 7700k "article"

The 7700k was tested at LESS THAN 1% slower than the 6700k clock for clock. Thus meaning that it's within the natural variance. So it's the same speed clock per clock as the 6700k.

Which is what Intel was saying all along.

DSOGaming is an awful site that writes tons of clickbait fluff with no substance.
