Gog: I think you're confusing GTA with GTA2 there.

It HAS been a long while since I played GTA1, I'll admit that, but I dont remember any kinds of lighting effects, nor much emphasis on the Yakuza.

GTA2, on the other hand, had much better graphics in the lighting regard and had gang-based wars, but other than that it was pretty much what GTA:VC was to GTA3.

You know what would be an INTERESTING way to get around the 'saving every 5 steps' problem, while not taking away the option of saving altogether? Having a timer of... say... 3 minutes, so that if you do a quicksave, a timer comes up and starts counting down from 3 minutes, but you cant do another quicksave until the 3 minutes are up.

It would work well in a sci-fi environment aswell, as you could have a 'device' that saves the state of the world, but it needs to charge before it can do it.

I think it'd be nerve-wracking to watch the timer for when you could save next, and it would cure the problem without removing the limb.

I think I've counted approximatly 3-4 posts actually pertaining to the original subject.

And you wonder why Blue sometimes nukes posts.

Anyways, back on topic, I'm really looking forwards to what could/hopefully will be achieved with this source, I haven't played a DukeMatch in years and I'm really looking forwards to getting back into it.

I'm just hoping plans dont fall apart like the ROTT source conversions did, that was a damned shame.

Forget about Duke Forever, Will Never be. Never done.

I have to ask, why is it that with almost EVERY game coming out people have to make some reference to DNF along with some comment like "I dont care about DNF"?

If you really dont care, why the hell keep bringing it up?

I really have a bad gut feeling about HL2, there's just something in my mind that makes me think that Valve was a one-trick pony.

Half-Life came along at the right time, when there was the tech to do some nifty stuff that could really 'wow' an audience, but the people that developed this tech were more concerned in the tech itself rather than the game that went with it, so HL had the perfect stomping grounds to be revolutionary.

But will HL2's entry be as warming? Given, there are still a LOT of things we have yet to touch in an FPS in terms of involvement, but I'm not convinced that we have the tech to do anything mindblowing at this point.

I just get the feeling HL2 will be nothing more than a polished up version of HL with a different storyline.

Am I the ONLY person in the world that didn't get this jaw-dropping sensation when walking out of the ship in Unreal 1?

Everyone talks about 'replicating that feeling', and when I was playing all I thought was 'huh, I'm outside'.

Dang, makes me feel cheated. ^_^

I was gonna talk about the U2 trailer, but apparently to topic took a wrong turn somewhere.

Nonetheless, that's the shittiest game trailer I've seen in a while. Crap editing, horrible background music, hell, the logos look like they've been done using stock Paintshop Pro filters!

And I havent seen animation this wooden in a long while.

The stills of U2 look awesome, though. Lets just hope that trailer was just showing the worst parts.

Not to mention, this isn't for people who have no interest in ROTT, it's not being shoved down your throat forchistsakes.

There are a lot of ROTT fans who would love to get their hands on this, maybe even code an OpenGL version.

If you're not one of those people, then shut the hell up! Jesus!

Do you guys have any idea how much smoke and mirrors goes into those trade-show expos? We're lucky it doesn't crash every time you do something even remotely different than what they did with it at the show. Gawd, I know a few presentations I put on, if you were to let the user actually CONTROL it(!), it would seem like NOTHING works! But in reality 9/10 of the code is there.

Different developers, different solutions. In essence, what was shown at E3 IS what it is this alpha, and being of the linear nature it is, there isn't much else to do. Although, there are a few times that I've been walking around and haven't triggered and event... because you need to follow a specific route.

But still, with demos, I prefer making the game, then showing people whats done... not hacking together a presentation to show real-time... god knows what would happen.

A blue screen does not impress the audience. (Just ask Bill Gates!)

[edit] And to Rock Climber, *clap clap* thank you, Captain Obvious! Anyone who would bother to read your rant already knew it 'doesnt represent the final product'. You're just yelling at people who know about it.

To the best of my knowledge, you need a new card to use OpenGL 2.0, so I can probably garuntee it wasn't using that.

I've heard that it's totally reporgrammable architechture. Might take ages to code for, but damn you could do some sweet shit on it.

I agree that sometimes the game can look a bit like Benny Hill on crack... but for the UT old-timers, try turning the speed down to 75%, make the game a LOT more enjoyable in my opinion.

Unfortunatly, this really only applies to people who are running servers, playing on a LAN or just enjoying botmatch.

But give it a try, you'll probably enjoy it a LOT more.

And people wonder why I play single-player and bot-matches all the time.

I'm not a bad player, although I could hardly be classed as an expert. Online, I normally rank 2nd or 3rd, lower is a rarity... higher is either me playing against a bunch of players new to DM or just me getting hella lucky.

But I dont play online, I cant stand the constant bitching. I play games to have fun, not to prove my balls are bigger than some anonymous guy over the 'net. I really dont give a shit what player X on the other side of the world thinks of me... you really think he's going to go 'Wow, he's good!'... in the current state of the online affair, it would be more like "d00d, j00r a fckin CHE4t! Wallh4ck sht."

I like playing against bots. 50% speed instagib is the perfect thing to unwind to at the end of a long day.

I can understand why people would want to play online, but I dont understand why a lot of them seem to play nothing but online games, bag anyone who doesn't play multiplayer games, then rant about how crap the games/players are and how crap multiplayer has become.

Dont these people have anything better to do other than something they, for the best of my judging abilities, DONT EVEN LIKE!?

No, chance was right.

Yes, buckets of sarcasm, but that didn't change the tone of the post at all.

You dont like the game, fine, no problem.

Just stop trying to make it seem like you are the king and Digital Extremes should bow to your every whim. I'm sick of the 'It sucks' attitude, as opposed to the REAL reason: 'I dont like it'. Sure, if it was that simple I could probably just relate 'It sucks' to 'I dont like it'... but then people go and say things like "a game that will be on the bargain bin shelves faster than an I-mac."

As chance said, you proved my point while completly missing it at the same time. Congratulations, you get a cookie. I found it under the couch.

[edit] And just for the record, and because I have a thing for proving people wrong while intentionally missing the point, I got rejected for a job as Maccas.

But I got accepted for a higher pay job, go figure!

I giggle at the fact that it's mostly UT hardcore fans who are saying UT2003 is shit. You have one crowd that wanted a completly different game, then you have the other crowd that wanted to buy UT in a shiny new package.

What I dont get is why when people dont like a game they proclaim it in such a manner as if they're trying to say: "I HAVE MADE A REVELATION! This game is crap! These are the reasons why; You must agree or you're crap too!" (Of course, a real post would have a lot more abbreviations).

Why cant people learn to say "I dont like it" instead of "It sucks"?

Oh yeah, this is the internet. IQ subtraction is mandatory.

But personally I thought UT2003 was awesome, they've really fine-tuned the gaming experience. Sure, most of the changes to the gameplay weren't incredibly obvious, but it's the subtle changes that really made the game shine in my opinion. The Shock rifle has a really good 'feel' to it now, and all the weapon models suit their projectiles perfectly (Except I'm a bit dubious on the Link Gun primary fire animation, and the bombing run launcher). But, on the other hand, I agree that the lightning gun needs to be changed, or at least tweaked. It's hard to aim, and it's hard to tell if you hit, barely missed, or quite what.

I cant wait for the full version, and now I have a goddamned job I can get it as soon as it's out! Joy!

I dont understand all these people coming in here and saying "I dont like it, I've grown up".

Yeah, really mature saying "This game suxx! Dont get it it's crap!"... shit, people have different tastes.

Personally, I love the new UT, fast, frantic and beautiful, I just want more levels and models! Bring on the full version!

But I agree with the sniper rifle 'not shooting where I'm firing'... I feel that a lot too. I like the idea of the lightning gun... but it doesn't feel right, it still needs work.

Okay, why do so many people seem to think that UT2003 should be UT with better graphics... and that's it?

Christ, if you want all the old stuff they had, GO PLAY UT.

Personally I'm looking forwards to all the new stuff like double-jumping and wall-jumping (Are these still in? I damn hope so, they sound like they'd be fun as hell!), new weapons and new twists on oldies.

I mean, seriously, do you people complain that the ripper wasn't in GTA3? That there wasn't domination in SOF2? Come on. If you want UT-style gameplay, play UT.

I'm looking forwards to this demo. But ONE model? Come on!! Give us at least 2! There had better be a nice variety of skins... I cant see the models being much more than 20 megs anyways... and personally 120-140 megs isn't that much of a stretch for anyone on cable. Who else thinks there should be more models?

Single player rocks and Deathmatch is hella fun. To fuck with all you bandwagon jumpers.

I really despise what CS did to gaming, it lowered that average IQ around 60 points.

Whats wrong with you people? Dont like following a story? What the hell is wrong with SP?
