I imagine that they could have put those numbers together by now... but if they knew the source code was copied back on 9/19, that could be at least a partial reason for delaying the game.

Ctrl+B closes the research menu. Hitting B again will cycle through your build ships (so if you have multiple carriers hitting b will move to them.

I had the opportunity to feel a bit of the rage of the sites mentioned in this open letter when the Impossible Creatures MP Beta exclusive happened.

I support the lack of exclusive demos for any one download site. I will suggest that folks may want to look into the contract that the purchasers of gamespy's multiplayer matchmaking service sign onto. If Call of Duty's using gamespy's matchmaking service, perhaps their contract specifies that any demos first are released through gamespy.

Note to developers, don't get stuck with only using gamespy's matchmaking if it requires that you have to have an exclusive demo with file planet.

It's better IMO... doesn't have that "wow this is a totally new kind of game!" feel that HW did... but then it's hard to beat the new kinda feeling that Homeworld brought to the table...

You can avoid the 5 media items per day limit by either deleting the IGN.com cookie OR (the better way) turning off cookie handling for IGN.com in IE 6's Internet options.

Go into IE
Go to Tools>Internet Options
Go to the Privacy Tab and click Edit
In the address of website box, put ign.com then click block.

You'll then have to go and delete the ign.com cookie, but after that, you'll be able to view all the IGN shots and media you want with no backlash (until IGN figures out that they can stop you from viewing everything if you don't have your cookies enabled).

Oh, and below the streaming videos are downloadable versions of the videos that you don't have to watch an ad to see.

They're substantially changing the build/research system and subsystems are entirely new.

Strike craft are now built in squadrons (of 3-9 ships), and you can set groups as strike groups, which then operate semi-intelligently together and support one another if given an attack command (IE the archers don't run off from the swordsmen unsupported).

Subsystems allow more customizable bases and build trees.

They've added more terrain (large megaliths), and seem to be adding in a sensor warfare system (ECM and ECCM).

There's a transcription there for folks who don't want to wait to download it.

I quite like it... but then being a Relic fan, I'm a bit biased.

It's Multiplayer is fast and fun, and although it is being claimed too easy to get into and play (it's a streamlined RTS after all), there's a huge amount of strats being discovered for online play. You can beat the game with a simple "build more and overwhelm your enemy" strat, but you can also Micro your units to death and make them much more effective.

The SP story is entertaining, and the presentation and polish is top notch.

There are lots of players with slower systems than you, that aren't having problems. If you want to pop by the Relic forums, and post your specs, I'll see about getting someone from Relic to look at your warnings.log file and see what's going on.

The beta's snagged all the show stopping bugs. I've not seen one since the first week of the beta. They've basically turned the Stress Test into a MP demo.

It's my understanding that there are features being patched in, along with some additional tweaks. The game is extremely polished, and there are no outstanding issues that the average player will spot. Most of the "Bugs" that are showing up on the Relic forums are related to outdated video card drivers, or simple problems with the EZ Pad installer.

As long as they don't fuck with Sierra, I'm happy.

You only have to do all that if you don't want to install DX8.2... which as others have mentioned, isn't beta software.

IC uses some of the networking fixes for firewalls/nat etc in DX 8.2, so yeah, the demo doesn't need it (as there's no online play in the demo), and the game should play fine if you work around installing DX 8.2.

Heck, just install it. DX 8.2 shouldn't cause any problems, if it does, update your drivers (which you should probably be doing anyways right?).

The EZ Pad crap's not spyware, it's a DRM Suite. Spyware, by definition, installs and reports information without you knowing it. As you know EZ Pad installs, and you know which information you enter into it, how can it possibly be spyware?

It should not *require* DX 8.2, but the installer will probably try to force it unless you remove/replace the DX files in the directory that's included.

There were people transfering around their PC Gamer copies, and the orginal guys cut the DX Files out of the demo and replaced them with similarly named blank, 0byte files. In that situation, the game will install and give some errors on 2k and XP machines, but does require one of the DirectX EXE's to install on 98 machines.

To bypass them, extract the demo installer, and locate the DirectX diretory. Replace the files in it with 0 byte files with the same name, and you won't overwrite your directx.
