In fact, I'd go as far as to say that some people would pitch in that $1.00 a month to MAKE that character with the SOLE PURPOSE of pissing people off.

While the "never bite the hand that feeds you" philosophy applies to Marweas' comment to a degree, if me and all of my buddies talked trash about your mom, and had no idea what they were talking about, you wouldn't appreciate it. He posted his comments NOT as a "PR Comment", but as a "Marweas" comment. I saw so many people posting on the forum saying "I never said anything bad about Eierra, and now I'm personally offended". Well, you know what??? HE WAS NOT TALKING TO YOU, so quit whining.

From a professional perspective, perhaps it wasn't the brightest thing to do -- but do I blame him? No, I think those forumites needed a little wake up call -- Sierra (and Relic, for that matter) is made of people -- and these people DO read forums, DO listen to what their fans have to say, and DO get offended when people talk trash about them when they have no idea how off-base the comments are.

And sometimes, emotions flare...

So if gamers think it's free territory to flame the companies that publish the games they want to play just because "the box art sucks" or "You didn't release a public external beta test", expect to hear 'feedback' about it.

I personally read back a bit before Marweas' comment to see what that thread was all about -- and I think I would have done the same thing... It was evident they had turned their back on Sierra --- so I think it's just as right that one of her son's didn't like the way they were treating his mom, so he packed up his toys and went home.

Refresh my memory...

Why is it that Max Payne now looks like a high school principal?

Nice slacks there, teach! Goes well with the paisley tie!

Recall: This is sony that we're talking here.

Everquest: Need I say more?

I can only imagine what they're going to do with SWG.

I'll consider playing SWG when they finish it. Until then, I'll definitely stick with AO...which, from what I've been told by numerous people, is still the better game.

If you're actually interested in roleplaying and an ongoing storyline, anarchy online is better than most MMO games. If you're referring to MMO games in general, then no, this won't make it more fun for you.

The TRIBES community, particulary TribalWar, is one collectively bitchy and demanding group that is difficult to please. I believe that Irrational and Sierra are releasing these videos to appease their followers, and to let them know that the game is being developed in the right direction. They've impressed me, for sure (in comparison to the previous games).

While I believe that they are releasing a awful lot of videos for only being 35% completed, I believe that their dedication to the community on this project far surpasses those attempts made with Tribes 2 (different dev team). Unless someone botches this up bigtime along the way (which I doubt), this should be a fantastic followup to Tribes 1 and 2.

and now that they're finished giving you the maps that you've already had "locked" on your disc, do you think thtat they may be creating new maps?

What a lame tactic -- "Hey, lets give them maps -- but NOT give them to them... it'll be an 'incentive' to.. uhhh... play online? "

No worries, there will be a tremendous download on release day. Standard procedure with MMO games.

By gold they probably mean "the content is done and ready"

after all, I dont think they put ALL of the content in beta -- ruin some surprises.

I gave up on AC2 a month or so ago... it hadn't improved, they kept re-balancing all the classes, and have now forced people to group to do absolutely anything at all because of mob armour changes. The content was building but not nearly fast enough.

I went to Anarchy Online instead and I'm having a blast! So much more to do...

That's the SAME EXACT story with me. I'm loving Anarchy Online (for the 2nd time)

See, Zaccix, that's a respectable refute of fileplanet's "exclusives" program. Just by reading the comments section here, you can see that it really irritates those that don't subscribe. Thats completely understandable if people now say "oh, well, now I'm not going to buy your stupid game". I don't know how many really follow through with that, though. Most people eventually get over it once it becomes public.

I know some people that DID join FP for the planetside beta, and the E&B beta a while back. I personally joined because I wanted to try E&B-- quite frankly the dumbest beta, and thus, the dumbest reason to join. However, once I saw what I was REALLY getting for my money, I quickly subscribed for a full year--

See, I'm the type of guy who loves mods and extra maps and whatnot for games. THIS is where fileplanet truly shines. They archive hordes of mods for popular games (FPS, RTS, whatever). I found some excellent quake3 and BF1942 mods there, and I didn't have to look very far to find them, nor wait to get them. I recently downloaded some WC3 content as well.

I still submit that if you're THAT heavily into gaming, you can't beat fileplanet with a free service.

Well, I'll say the same thing I always say.

Fileplanet has the biggest archive of gaming files I've seen, free or not. I'm paying for easy indexing of all gaming files, movies, etc, with no wait time and extremely fast download. No other site offers all of this for free. Not 3dgamers, not cnet... no one. Am I throwing my money away for convenience? Sure.

But I also pay $40a month for my internet access, because the service is BETTER than what I would have if I chose a free internet provider like Juno or Netzero. I think it's somewhat hypocritical to complain to people about paying for what you can get for free, ESPECIALLY when you're forking out $40 a month, and I'm only forking out $7 (unless of course you're conveniently attached to a OC3 somehow).

Anyhow, the perks like early demos and the 2-year subscription to Stuff mag are just icing on the cake. I pay for convenience. In fact, most of the time I look at those exclusives and just laugh because there's no reason for me to download some of them. I could care less about MC2.

so respectable. They did such a nice job with ET, and now they're making it even better. Community support has always been key in an FPS, and for a free game, this is just going to shine.

Well, at least I hope it does.

The sad thing is that they'll only need to be tracking the 2 players that sitll play, but GG.

Seriously, though, I wish that this game kicked off to a better start.

it still has the core AO game in it, for sure, but I don't believe you're going to access the full content of the expansion pack in 5 hours.

But I'd agree with your sentiment that if you like it now, you'll like it. I just don't think its fair to say that it's not going to turn the game dynamic around. There was so much turned around with the first "booster pack" that I'd be surprised if this didn't change a lot of the gameplay.

It's quite remarkable and commendable to see what they've done to this game. I'm in an AO "comeback-kick" now, and I honestly have to say that I'm being sucked in. DAoC and AC2 couldn't do it for me -- this can, and even though I preordered Shadowlands yesterday, my thoughts are -- hey, if you actually release it when it's finished, you'll have more people stick around longer rather than feel that they've been ripped off to play an unfinished beta.

For a second.. the thoughts of the ex-blizzardians going to Irrational games to help make Tribes:Vengeance came to mind. I almost cried.
