"Let's say that I've logged 1,000 hours playing Counter-Strike in all its many forms all the back to when it wasn't even barely known about. I learned the AWP & the DEAGLE first like any other noob. THen I learned the other, more challenging guns."

Uhh, back then my favorite weapon was the knife since you could run so fast. The burst weapons were also really good because you could mow down 3-4 people with head shots on one clip coming around a corner (when the weapons were actually accurate). Remember bunny hopping? But then you could also run while sniping

For me the fun in that game started going downhill around beta 5 when they made movement really slow, and then 6 or 7 when they made weapon recoil really lame. It just wasn't that fun anymore to me.

It runs fine on my p3 2.7 w/7800GS OC.

I would have liked to play a freeform level because the Omaha beach and subsequent level were quite boring to me. I am actually getting tired of playing king of the hill rts games after playing Dawn of War, expansion and Rise of Legends but this one looks quite fun - the demo just didn't do anything for me gameplay wise, although the graphics are very nice, especially the artillery effects.

once you load the level the first time loading quicksave etc is pretty fast. the levels arent that small so i think it's deceptive because it's all frontloaded.

I wouldn't ever play this multi but the single player campaign was decent.

I'm just glad a lot of rts game are on the horizon.

"the obvious one instead of paladin on the horde side would be death knight which already exsists within warcraft3 and he even heals via damage spells"

eh? that seems to already rolled into shadow priest's vampiric embrace. and the way it worked in wc3 with arthas was that it was really a catchall spell that was actually a heal when used for a friendly, damage when used on an enemy and that is sort of rolled into some paladin abilities as well, but the death part in wc3 made sense because the "heal" portion on it worked on undead because your faction in the game is all undead.

but i agree with you more classes would be good.

the only problem I had with Undying was that the game was too short and they tried to extend it by using time travel and Oneiros was pretty bad although there were some good moments in there (unlike the other dimension in HL1 which was 100% crap). Also became a bit unbalanced when you got the Scythe - that weapon was so overpowered that no one bothered to use anything else after getting it.

The enemies in that game were great (especially their movements). As were the environments. Very good setting of the mood (the haunted paintings were great too). Graphically did some cool things with animated cloth blowing in the wind, and later in the game nice looking rain (for an old Unreal Tournament based game anyway). Some great sequences (eg. in the catacombs where the lights go out and skeletons are everywhere - awesome! Or the first time one of those imps lunges at you, or something drops from the ceiling).

This game sounds completely different though so it might be hit and miss. The description doesn't sound very appealing to me.

I remember seeing some evidence that aspartame wasn't a very good food additive but a subsequent study failed to find anything significant in humans. With that said I'm sure there are a lot of additives to food that are unhealthy but the effects are so small or over such a long term that they are really difficult to detect.

I say that right now eating a tuna sandwich which is from the fish that generally has the the most mercury in it.

tell your neighbour to get bird feeders that squirrels can't get to or at least cut down on how much food they put out. if they completely stop you won't have squirrels and skunks etc flocking to your yard.

the "pay money prevents abuse" argument is nonsense unless I'm missing something. They could put time limits and other restrictions on it instead. This is Blizzard realizing that people will pay a premium to keep something that preserves sunken costs (character gear) and will desire to transfer because of social community or server factors.

The time sinks in that game are pathetic and people dedicated to it are obviously very willing to pay just as they go and buy gold and so on to get around gold accumulation timesinks (farming, tradeskills, auction house trolling).

Open ended in this game basically means everything rehashed 20 times, including all of the dialogue. It's good while it lasts but the main story is pathetically bad. I thought Baldurs Gate 2 had a bad ending... until I played this.

i'd agree but it seems like there are a lot of people on there that are more addicted than having fun. they have friends on there that they are attached to and so on.

people play wow more hours than most people played counterstrike, and a lot of those hours are doing meaningless, boring things for minor boosts in stats.

craig anderson etc are getting better, actually starting to do studies that take into account criticisms. unfortunately he's been spouting rubbish for years long before he had any evidence. and "aggression" is still far more mild than what people have in mind when they think of the causality.
