Didn't the mmorpg genre die 5 years ago or so? I haven't heard of anything good coming out in years. I suppose no one has been able to figure out how or what to replace the "grind" part of the gameplay with something more interesting

There's a new multiplayer shooter culture where watching is more entertaining than playing. PUBG is the perfect game for it

The reviews will be interesting with this one. XCOM was ok. A bit frustrating and rather difficult for reasons that don't always make sense. Hopefully this guy listened to his fans and went back to the drawing board for the game design.

Erm, you do realize that this is the guy who made the original X-COM, or UFO Enemy Unknown. Not the recent XCOM remake?

That's what I'm referring to (yes, I'm old). Have you ever played the original? It's all good fun, but the amount of micromanagement made it quite difficult. The later xcoms are dumbed down.

Do you remember the Steam Machine? Everyone but them knew it was a bad idea to sink money into a new console. It amazes me how so many successful companies can make some really dumb decisions. You have to question if their success was based on innovation and intelligence, or just pure dumb luck (i.e. right place, right time, simple idea, e.g. Facebook)

I'm not sold on VR yet. I think it still has several years to go before (or if) I take the plunge. Not only that, but I just don't like wearing something on my head that blocks out my surroundings. It would have to be like "real" virtual reality and not just a screen strapped to my head.

I mean I've been really digging VR since the 2016 launch but I'm the odd one out of my friends, you've gotta build yourself up to tolerating a ton of shit to get the most out of it and even then it's pretty fatiguing. Reminds me of old school computer games and everyone thinking I'm crazy to even bother. With the exception of a couple of people, everyone else I know has either boxed up their HMD or sold it. It's always amazing at first but after a few months most just don't want to tolerate it. It's early days and the tech still has a ton of problems, not sure if this push for VR will fizzle out or if we're just in the enthusiast phase

I think most people like to have a sense of their surroundings while gaming. The simple fact that both your eyes and ears are covered is kind of a turnoff (i.e. people feel uneasy about losing all that control). I’m not sure how tech can fix that. I suppose if it really becomes mind-blowing, the tolerance will increase as well.
