Well, GW IS an extremely nice game IF you can get a nice group of people together. The 1st person I grouped with told me to wait, knelt in front of me (so his face was hanging on my crotch and he kept going: LOL LOL, see this?

That's why I play with henchmen. I'll usually grab a healer, a fighter, and a mage, and set out for a good 2 hour journey. Even though they're not real people, and the AI isn't perfect, I manage the team just fine. And you don't have to deal with any morons.

I think Guild Wars is one of the best rpg's ever created. If you're not into fantasy rpg's, this game isn't going to miraculously convert you.

I can clearly see why this game has been #1 on the top 10 pc games list for the past month. It's just a really solid online rpg with nice looking graphics and lots of cool game modes.

A congrats is in order to the developers for making a great game for the pc that doesn't feel rushed or rehashed.

And to think I once bashed the concept of this game. Play before you whine is a good policy.

edit: I wouldn't compare Guild Wars with an mmorpg, especially World of Warcraft. IMO, Guild Wars and WoW are completely different genres.

That's typical of a Pog (PC-Only Gamer), to spend another $450 just to save 60 seconds to boot up your machine. lol

Hopefully this game isn't team-based. Did they finally add a deathmatch mode? Now when everyone grabs a plane, at least it will be useful.

The orginal game sucked. All people would do is wait for a plane to fly instead of actually trying to help their team win. What a crappy design for a multiplayer game. No thx.

I wish they'd all get cancelled. Both pc and console version sucked monkey balls. Don't blame it on console development. I had the original pc version and that sucked.

"that the PC will ALWAYS have over the consoles, is that there is a fantastic community working hard to make games better. Be it through Mods, or in this case, through an unofficial patch.
"

Big freakin' deal. For the most part, anyone who has already played the game won't even bother, and most people who purchase it now wouldn't even know where to look for an "unofficial install-at-your-own-risk" patch.

That advantage over a console doesn't even compare to the advantage a console has over a pc for gaming.

"Also, it does a fair bit to encourage players to solo, which is fine, but not exactly promoting the lasting community that holds a lot of these games up. "

Exactly. I mean c'mon, these are massively-multiplayer games. You'd think they do more to promote grouping and teamwork.

That's just the reason I quit WoW and went back to City of Heroes. CoH by far has the best community when it comes to mmorpg's, and it has the best Comm interface I've seen in games like this.

And to all you people who complain that there's too many mmorpg's coming out, you should sit back and think a little. It's one of the only genres that's keeping pc gaming alive. If you prefer PC gaming over console gaming (or if you're a "Pog"), don't bash the genre.

I disagree. I was in the beta too and this game is definitely not the kind of mmorpg I've been playing for years. It reminded me of Diablo 2 Online with prettier graphics.

"It does not push the envelope or bring something fresh to the genre, since we feel that there is little place for innovation in today's action games market."

That's a ridiculous statement.

"... Apple has always been about style and making stuff that is not only easy to use, but looks cool. So when Apple puts out something new and stylish, people take note. "

Exactly. I chose the iPod over all the rest because the interface is very well thought out. I don't even have to look at it while I'm driving to use it, and I use it all the time in my car with the iTrip fm transmitter.

I guess these games are just too difficult for some people. Stick to fps's and you won't feel much brain strain.

Gothic I raised the bar for 3rd person rpg's. Why you might ask? It pulled standard crpg's away from turn-based combat where action based skill matters, voice-overs for npc's, not much loading at all, almost like an mmorpg, made you feel like you were really in the game world. It also included a duel system (almost like pvp) where you can train by dueling with one of the npc's. The game not only felt like an online game of today, but the way the story flowed, it made you feel like you were really part of it. One minute you're part of a camp, the next minute they're all against you. Gothic I was the best! If you ask me, that was the game that inspired designers to create games like Morrowind (which wasn't even half as good, imo), and today's mmorpg's.

If you haven't played it, you should definitely pick it up. I'm talking Gothic I, not II. To me, there's no sense in playing the second game until you've played the first. The graphics are good enough... they're not very outdated at all.

I bought both the Sims 2 and Tribes: Vengeance, and I think T:V is the best fps to come out this year. HL2 was fun, but it was short and there's no multiplayer. T:V has a great singleplayer experience (the story is actually interesting) and then multiplayer.... well... Tribes is the best when it comes to mp.

I like the Sims 2 as well.

I think EQ2 is an awesome game. I'm a bit surprised that gamespot gave it a rather low score. On the other hand, I don't think you can really rate an mmorpg unless you're still playing it at lvl 30 or so (more than half the lvl cap). Games like that typcially get better after lvl 20 and start to wind down up and around lvl 35. Anyway, I'm having a blast with it.... and the graphics are amazing, especially for an mmorpg.
