Yet again, so many people say the president is unfit and I again would have to agree with the president. This is another stupid move from the courts. While the courts are at it, lets take out the word god on the dollar bills, any where in the Constitution, Declaration of Independence or any other historic document for that matter that has the word god.
What gets me is where in the Constitution does it say separation of church and state (I did a search on the Constitution and could not find the word church in it).
Lets take Amendment I:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances. (sited from http://www.law.cornell.edu/constitution/constitution.table.html#amendments
As I can tell, the gov cannot pass a law respecting an establish religion. So I guess the quote, “One nation under God” is a law respecting a religion? If so what religion? I don’t see the pledge saying, “one nation under Christian’s God” or “one nation under Baptist God”. So how is having the two words “under God” breaking my constitutional rights? Oh that is right. I forgot. Way back when they first starting worrying about the separation of church and state, they asked one of the founding fathers (Thomas Jefferson I think…have to check up on that) what was meant and he sent back a letter to the courts with the words “separation of church in state”. Taking simply those 5 words and you can make an argument for the stupid laws lately but if you end up reading the whole letter, you would get a whole new meaning to that statement and how it is being used. If I can find it, I’ll post a link so you can read it.
On a side note, here is a very interesting look at the pledge: http://ncmason.org/book1/PLEDGE2.HTMThis comment was edited on Jun 27, 11:33.
