I played for 5 hours last night and love the game. Very immersive. I actually just followed the quest line and closed the first portal while still level one (need to find an inn). So much to do and already mods are starting to come out. This game easily has 100 hours of content and am so glad I bought this.
Saying that, I also feel the interface is extremely lacking. Let's begin with the lack of a "Paper Doll." How do I know that I'm missing items that I could be equipping? Is there amulet slots? rings? belts? I dunno... can't see this. Yes they show the character but I want to see little boxes that I can mousie over and see what is in each little slot and what I don't have in others...
Also for combat I think they need a WoW type interface. I put a spell to 4 and this only changes my active spell? I want to be able to press 4 and make it attack. I want to see my spells in a sidebar at the very least so I don't have to remember where I put each one and have to continually pull up the inventory to see this. They made the icons for the spells very intuitive, but it doesn't help if you can't see them...
Neither are showstoppers, but they're such prehistorical ways of doing things and not very intuitive or user friendly.
Combat - The only thing that bothers me here is finding your enemies out in the wild. It seems that the creatures "blend" in a little too well. Personal preference though. Horse combat sucks though. You have to dismount and then you can't find the damn enemy again. When you finally do you wind up hitting your horse instead of the enemy... Maybe a small mod where you can't attack your horse?
Oh yeah... and my only other gripe is that horses reverse the wrong way. I played more than one driving game in my time and can't get it right.
