News Comments > Cyberpunk 2077 Delay Won't Prevent Crunch

20. Re: Morning Tech Bits Jan 17, 2020, 21:39 The Half Elf

So Devil's Advocate Time:

What would cause delays in the game that would delay it, or "not plan for crunch"?

Story/Writing? Something with the story wasn't working out or wasn't a problem until the end of the game and had to be we-written, and if you do that then you have an issue of all the art assets/voice assets to go with the.
Gameplay/Design?
Programing?

Sometimes shit happens for lord knows why reason. As as stated Crunch mode happens at most jobs, and you don't hear about it unless it's a shitty company like EA that was having crunch mode from day one because they were realsing games on a yearly schedule.

Actually Joe is right.
Games can be made to have amazing "Art Quality" moments, but not one person (except maybe a graphical artist on the game, or a musical sound person) is an artist. And while Kill Bill gave killing people an amazing medium to consider Killing an Art Form, none of those people were the guy sitting across the table from Joe pulling a "I'm special because...." moment.

Exactly... figure out a way to bring back Wash and I'm all for it. Otherwise let it die, or expand the universe a bit.

Without knowing a thing, had you asked me how many players/ships per instanced area, and that area be something like.. Ogrimmar in old WoW, I'd have said 750.

Guilds Wars 2 is capable of handling thousands in a map using an object cap max so that you only see a certain number at any given time. When the limit degrades from all the special effects, the system kicks in and starts disabling things in priority order beginning with cosmetic pets. On my machine, I get the capped experience, which is typically around 50-70 FPS with 75-100 players and all effects and pets enabled. A system like that would NOT work in Star Citizen where fighter combat requires constantly radar and eye tracking.

go wwatch some of the videos of people playing 60'ish people. it turns into a mess.

I have to say, what they have in Star Citizen right now is very impressive. The problem is it's still a tech demo.

If you're 50 now, then you were 7 years old when the Atari 2600 came out, which means you've been around home video games most of your life. It shouldn't be any surprise that there are older gamers.

VR developers, in particular, don't seem to account for the limited mobility of older gamers.

That's why the Wii U Bowling was a huge hit with seniors.

Question:

If they do unionize, are we going to see more microtransactions in games to offset the development costs?

Salvage system needs tweaked badly, AI is an abomination, but still better then Ghost Recon Breakpoint, Baddies will spawn directly in front of you out of thing air (along with everywhere else), and yeah the radar sucks.

But there is something I had no fucking clue about that shows a great bit of details. The availability of mech and techs is effected by the date based on the game lore. Certain Houses used certain tech and mechs, so if ya want to go hunt through their space for it you can.

The entire game/campaign can be played co-op, and I've had some great sessions doing this once I found the discord channel. About as much fun as I've had since Ghost Recon Wildlands or Star Trek Bridge Crew.. And some of the most knuckle whiting moments since playing with friends in The Division 1 when everything is going to hell and you're just trying to get someone to the extractions zone to get the mission complete.

Really needs some patch loving, and more tweaking.

I wonder if the '2' in the title has anything to do with it. If people feel like they missed out on the first one and it isn't made clear that the first isn't a requirement for jumping on board with the second one (which I've read it isn't, but I had to search a bit to find that out) maybe that had a hand in the relatively low sales?

EDIT - as for the article's noting of the early discounts that didn't happen for GTAV, it is probably worth pointing out that the game is on sale on the Playstation store as well. I bought myself a PS4 recently to play Horizon Zero Dawn and God of War and noticed RDR2 on sale this week.

There is a very easy fix to get PC players to play. 1) Fix the performance/bug issues on PC. 2) 2 DLC's. First being from after the main story to the start of Red Dead 1. Second, add the first game directly to the RDR2.

Half Elf recommended The Marvellous Mrs. Maisel the other day. So I'm running on the treadmill in the gym thinking, "1950s comedy, should be nice clean fun, perfect for the gym."

NOPE. Sex scene in the first 10m of episode one. I'm yelling, "Alexa! Tablet off! Tablet OFF!" and she's like "I'm sorry, I don't understand your request."

Luckily the gym was pretty empty. Not sure why. Something going on today?

In my defense, it's Blues and Amazon's fault. 1) Blue recommended it. 2) Amazon started me at the start of season 3 (at the USO Hanger show), so I had to backtrack to start at Season 1 Episode 1. And in the first season alone I wasn't expecting tits and dick (both were Marvelous).
