I still strongly believe this game won't become available for PCs. They pulled this fucker with RDR, and they'll do it with GTA5.

Every other GTA game has hit PC though - why not this one?

And to that end - wasn't RDR technically made by a separate group?

On the one hand: neat

On the other I seeing this correctly - is this listed as single-player only? Where's the multiplayer? Where's my co-op?

Edit: OK - allegedly it's coming in the future:

"Future features will include Linux support and Steamworks supported online play."

Yeah - there were a couple of technical issues, but I'm surprised at all the negativity being thrown at this game... all said and done, it was one of the best and most compelling adventure games I had played in awhile. From my own experience I thankfully didn't run into all that many issues either.

I understand how problems with the save-carryover system would have been extremely frustrating though - I just feel compelled to put some additional words down that the series wasn't ALL terrible - quite the opposite in fact.

All these things being said and so far, nobody mentions that Heavy Gear sucked. Period.

I tried real hard to like it when it had an SP game, but it always wreaked of second-rate "we're just like Mechwarrior" bandwagon jumping, even back then.

I rather enjoyed it Even with the campy FMV cutscenes. The soundtrack for HG1 was pretty awesome (still listen to it to this day) and I thought the missions had pretty good atmosphere to them.

I thought HG2 was a lot of fun as well, just fell quite a bit short of it's potential.

Well that was pretty quick....Damn I better get the alpha soon. Hopefully its not a shameless money grab and there is substance to the actual game (once its released) because as far as I can see there are only showcase missions. Will there actually be a story campaign in the release version???

There is a single player campaign in the works, but it won't be put out until the full release.

"During the singleplayer campaign, the player will take the role of a British Special Forces soldier, Captain Scott Miller. Initially, the player must survive on their own after friendly forces are defeated in a failed NATO operation. During the campaign, the player will face everything from lone wolf infiltration missions to the commanding of large scale armored operations. The player will be able to choose different objectives and weaponry (such as UAVs, artillery, and air support) according to their play style."

Will this campaign have co-op play like Arma 2's? That was what made it the most enjoyable.

Really? I think it looks fun, though I'm definitely waiting to see some reviews.

I was thinking the same thing - it may not be a top-tier blockbuster hit, but what exactly about it looks so horrible?

I sort of do =\

Same here. This game hits on a lot of demographic areas I enjoy, and is one of the very few crowdfunded endeavors I've actually put money towards.

And yeah, Capital ships are the most broken aspect in the entire X universe and I no not a single space "First person" flight game where it wasn't so.

What about Star Trek: Bridge Commander and Klingon Academy? Those did it pretty well (the latter in particular).

Flying capital ships is one of those things that sounds really cool but is actually boring.
Countless times I've longed to sit in a capital ship only to be disappointed. There is no way this can be interesting because strictly speaking you would be the one who gives orders and cannot actually do anything. Flying those things manually is a pain.
A good consensus is flying a M7 or something like that. It is bigger than a fighter but smaller than a M2 or M1.

Nah, not from my POV. I have lots of fun commanding capital ships - micro-managing fighters, orchestrating full-fire barrages, etc. It touches all the right geek-places in the same way that Battlestar Galactica did, and I don't find it boring at all. With the 3D bridge mods that came out for X3, it made the experience even better.

I know this is just my own perspective, but it's wrong to assume nobody finds any fun in commanding capital ships, because for some of us it's exactly the opposite. This is also the key bit as to why I feel the game would benefit so much from multiplayer (fighter pilots can zoom around with capital ship captains backing them up, etc) and feel it's a huge loss not having it present in the franchise.

Here's hoping they put in some co-op options. If I'm playing a tightly scripted game, sp-only is fine but these games are begging for co-op and completely ignore it.

I agree - co-op play is something the X series has badly needed for a very long time. For some reason their own community seems vehemently against it, but I'd love to be able to team up with a friend who can launch in a fighter from a capital ship I'm piloting, coordinate escorts for my freighters on trade runs, etc... there's a lot of possibilities that would be just awesome with this game.

Although I vaguely recall hearing the new game won't allow you to pilot capital ships, which is a bit of a letdown for me =\ Still looking forward to this though.

Those don't really seem like substantial changes. Boss fights comprise approximately 0.5% of DX:HR and anyone interested in the DLC has already played it.

I sort of know what you mean, but it's actually a bit of a bigger deal for me as I like to do bi-annual playthroughs of DX:HR... the broken DLC integration means I need to mentally think ahead to remember the point in the game's story where the DLC is supposed to fit in, manually exit the game in advance, and load up a whole separate executable to fit the experience properly into the story (since it just feels awkward playing the DLC after I've already beaten the game). It's pretty immersion-breaking and I hate that they did it that way.

And even though the boss fights are a small part of the picture, I personally would still love to see the new content - i.e. reworked environments, AI, and battle conditions. I would genuinely pay money (if not a whole lot) for an "Enhanced Edition" or something with all these changes baked in on the PC.

Leper wrote on Jun 4, 2013, 12:51:
Can't we just let it go? I can't see how this seriously affects anyone. The next game in the series will also be OCD-unfriendly if the devs can't focus on it.

My sticking point with this whole thing is that the rigid, combat-oriented boss battles were the biggest complaint with DX:HR. The developers took the time to actually fix them - but said fixes might not ever see the light of day on one of the game's prominent platforms.

But you're right - I am being a bit nit-picky.

by the way this is being handled...the same team who did the DLC, April Tweat and made the Boss Fights took over any future development.

You mean the same team that did the core game? To my knowledge, it's not changed hands at all...the original boss fights were outsourced, and they've said they regretted that decision and have learned from it.

Not only that, but the Missing Link DLC was AWESOME. The only downside was that it didn't seamlessly integrate (like they do in LA Noire, for example). So yeah, more of that, please.

What's super-annoying is that the Wii-U version of DX:HR actually WILL have seamless integration of the Missing Link DLC.... as well as re-worked boss battles from the core game to be less silly.

And allegedly they're not planning to backport these changes to the PC platform =\ Although after a bunch of rage about this on the official forums, I heard they were going to bring the demand for this up with the developers.... so maybe there's some hope.

Thanks for contributing! Your arbitrary slamming of a popular game has definitely helped the direction of this thread.

I'll understand if you didn't like DX:HR because you disagreed with it for various reasons or found it just didn't completely fit your preferred gameplay style... but just declaring the game a "POS" makes you look like a troll.

I absolutely agree with theyarecomingforyou - the STALKER series was a fun set of games that had great atmosphere - no doubt. I really enjoyed playing them, but calling the Metro series inferior by comparison isn't fair in my eyes. I actually enjoy Metro a lot more because it does a much better job at presenting it's plot, and the fact that it's a linear experience means they can present a much stronger and engaging story.

Again though, I enjoyed STALKER a lot too and found a different way to get immersed in it based on it's own strengths. Both games have their pros and cons, and I don't see why some people can't just enjoy both of them.

Wow, I like how they kept the perfect Homeworld feel out of the UI, even though it's a ground-RTS game now.

But... I agree, if it's not going to have any kind of singleplayer content and is just focused on competitive only, I'll be really disappointed.

Edit: OK wait, what? Now I'm confused.

"We are not making a ‘social strategy game’. We’re making an RTS with both single-player and multi-player. There is gameplay on a planetary scale – meaning big maps and a big world to explore – and you have the ability to do that with friends. We’re eager to fix the misconception."
