Valve has no definite date set for release, last I saw the 'release meter' simply says FALL, so it may be a while and I wouldn't doubt sometime in November for it to the the shelfs, or STEAM.

You can play it in first person mode as well.

And I never said you couldn't either, Did I? Plus, even as you admit, the default view mode is third person, meaning the developers themselves intended for you to play in this view as it is set as the "default" view. Now, instead of trashing everyone on this board by saying ignorant statements such as "I know this is Blue's News forum and all" maybe you could have simply stated "It also supports 1st person mode, FYI" without the attitude or sarcasm.

Regarding my "posting history", I'm not sure what you really mean. Are you saying you have a better "posting history" than me or what? I may not agree or get along with everyone here but at least I don't slam everyone in one generalized statement such as "I know this is Blue's News forum and all". If this site is so far beneath you then why are you here? And when I have facts to add to a discussion I don't tell people they are just "jumping to random conclusions". Just another ignorant Bearcub.

you just got proven wrong and can't admit it. Not surprising regarding your posting history.

And I was wrong about what (now and past)?

Thats just searching for 2 minutes. Next time, don't be so sarcastic, or just like this time, it will bite you in the ass.

Yeah, thanks for that. Lord knows I got better things to do so I'm glad you found all those XBOX sites, thx I know this is Blue's News forum and all, and we are inferior to you, but PC links are better here

Can you post a link that has official notice about 1st person view. I have read it does not unless you are looking through a scope.

Maybe "MurdrOfCrows" can send us that link, he seems to be in the know.

The Hands-On preview I read about in PCG shows Red Storm creating a 3rd person, not very interactive, not very stealthy, can't control the other soldiers directly, hack of the original, great Ghost Recon FPS. They really should have named it something unique, it's not all even remotely close to being a sequel to the original, they are going to trick and piss off a lot of poeple with that title.

Ghost Recon 2 == DX 2:IW || Thief 3

Also, the first targeted platform for this title is the XBOX (as well as other consoles by a different Dev house) with a PC version to follow so many of these changes to the original GR are becuase of this (much like DX:IW and Thief 3).

Doom3 is just about going from mars station A to mars station B, finding PDA C to open door D and repeat the whole sequences ad infinitum. I have seen this gameplay 10 years ago;

Wow, amazing how a remake would sound like it did 10 years ago, truly amazing.

Here is 'The Story' of Half Life (taken from the Official Half-Life Website)

----------------------------------------------------------

Deep in the bowels of the Black Mesa Federal Research Facility, a decommissioned missile base, a top secret project is underway. A portal has been opened to another dimension, and human science has never seen anything like the world on the other side.
You are Gordon Freeman, a young research associate in the Anomalous Materials Laboratory. You have limited security clearance and no real idea of just how dangerous your job has become, until the morning you are sent alone into the Test Chamber to analyze of a strange crystalline specimen. A routine analysis, they tell you. Until something goes wrong.

Is it sabotage? An accident? Or is it something you did? All you hear is screaming; all you see is spacetime shattering. The next thing you know, the entire Black Mesa Facility is a nightmare zone, with sirens wailing and scientists fleeing in terror from the things their co-workers have become.

Hordes of creatures from the far side of the portal are pouring through rifts in the local fabric of reality. Monsters are everywhere. Madness rules. You head for the surface, but the usual routes are impassable-closed off by the disaster, infested with headcrabs and houndeyes and increasingly larger and hungrier creatures.

As Gordon Freeman, you must enlist the help of traumatized scientists and trigger-happy security guards to get through high-security zones, sneaking and fighting your way through ruined missile silos and Cold War cafeterias, through darkened airducts and subterranean railways. When you finally come in sight of the surface, you realize that the inhuman monsters aren't your only enemies-for the government has sent in ruthless troops and stealthy assassins. Their orders seem to be that when it comes to the Black Mesa, nothing gets out alive... and especially not you.

When even your own species turns against you, maybe you'll be glad to see another portal beckoning. But then again, on Earth you have allies; while on the far side of the portal, nothing at all is familiar except the sense of danger.

Save the Earth? Well, maybe. But that's a pretty low priority compared to saving your own skin.

----------------------------------------------------------

So lets see, you replace Gordon with a Space marine and you have Doom, although Doom came out first, funny how that is. I wouldn't expect HL2's story to be much more compelling either, will it be fun? Probably, and I may buy it after the fanbois work through the STEAM bugs for me. This is simple, Doom 3 is a remake of Doom, if you didn't know what you were getting into then it's your own fault, quit belly-aching.

Ok now that's just 1 week. City of Heros was the number 1 game in the US for close to 3 months.

Why are you using just the US as a comparison between the two? The news article shows Doom 3 as being #1 in 8 countries, thats MUCH more significant than just the US figure you use. I really don't get your point, comparing a global #1 verse a US #1, Apples and Oranges. No contest.

HL2 will do just as well because of all the people that played the HL Mods for the last few years. I'm not surprised D3 is selling well, it's the Grand-father to games like HL.

With...

Rome Total War
Evil genius
and LOTR (the one like Total War Rome)

Im in gaming bliss.

I'm with you, I'll be buying the same games this year. I'm going to wait at least 6 months after the release of HL2 to decide on that game.

I hear that the SDK must be released before the 4 player limit can be changed, or else you have to hack the doom3 exe?

I think you can do it in the command line, aka, in the Doom 3 Icon. Something like "C:\..\..\Doom3.exe" +set_comMp=6

The 'set_comMp' is probably wrong, just replace it with the right Doom 3 variable, you can find it in the DoomConfig.cfg file.

Ok, one more, your stupidity intrigues me.

As I said (and which you are obviously too obtuse to comprehend), it's only two maps.

The first demo came with three maps first of all, thought I might point that out to you since you obviously can't count.

From the press release of the first demo:

"The demo contains 3 Single Player levels including the never-before-seen Oriental Castle, the medieval town level and the Thor level where players will get 'hammered' with one of the biggest, meanest and downright scariest bosses of all time, Saphathoraél."

Then there was the second demo which gave you one more, City on Water, making it four maps, 3 + 1 = 4.

I took a chance by buying it and lost.

Well, sucks to be fucking dumb.

Ok, good night their champ, I'm off to play Doom 3

It's too bad you don't have any.

Oh wow, good one.

Once you've seen an enemy be thrown back by a shotgun blast, you've seen it, and the physics don't enhance the gameplay in a meaningful way.

And what FPS is different from this?

Painkiller's demos were early builds of the game, and it was far from certain that the final product would turn out like that early version.

Painkiller was released on 4/12/04, the first demo was released 2/16/04, just about 2 months before the release date, that would not make it significantly different... but thats not all there genius, another demo was released on 4/07/04, just days before Painkiller hit the shelf, and they even released another map for you to try. Stop making excuses for your self-indulgent stupidity, you had multiple times to try it out. I'm sorry, but I have to ignore you now, your "crying wolf" excuses are getting old...

But, it's 2004 not 1994. Expectations have changed, and games must meet them or be left on the shelf.

Or maybe, just maybe, PCF designed the game to be a throw back game and forgot to tell you... oh know, that's right, they marketed Painkiller as a throw back game, that must have eluded your superior intellect because reading is simply fundamental and your so complex. How about next time you do a little bit of research before you buy, yeah, like Blues News etc, I'm sure I could easily find threads that state what kind of game it was when the DEMO came out. A little common sense goes along way.

I found them unchallenging even on nightmare mode. Having an extra person would just make them less so.

I guess they didn't think about the super cool people when they designed the game.

Ok been playing it for awhile now and got some feedback

Doesn't this allow for 'underground' fighting or something like that? I though I read in PCG that there are semless above ground and below ground battles in SP and MP. I never loaded up the PCG Demo version either, didn't seem all that appealing, waiting for LOTR.
