Thats cool, PainKiller coming out of the gates VERY positively. I'll have to see if any stores in the area (Southern NH) have it on the shelves.

Regarding the RL/Minigun, in single player, a target in the air experiences much heavier damage than in a target on the ground. The combo for eliminating harder oppenets in SP is to shoot at their feet, and then while there in the air, finish them off with the chain gun.

i tried it and it was quite fun juggling baddies in the air with the chaingun. it's not as prominent a combo as some of the others, but still badass and a lot of fun to try to master! god, i can't wait for this game.

Dam, I didn't even know that, I'll have to try it out tonight with the 'City On Water' level. I also understand that you can juggle MOB's with the Alt-Fire of the PainKiller (or default weapon) and make them drop coins as you juggle them. I guess the premise is to use the Alt-Fire to through them over your head, as they get above you you fire the Alt-Fire agian repetively juggling them and making them lose their coins

Boring game huh? Try playing it, no not just hitting start level, PLAY THE F'ing THING, be creative, I'm sure half the world would fall asleep watching some of you people play games

I guess I could say DOOM was boring back in the day if you played it in a boring way... or you could haul ass into a room full of Demons and get it on MAKING IT FUN.

I thought you didn't like MMO's Halsy? Not trying to get into a debate or anything but you ripped EQ a new one a bit ago because of the Pay-To-Play model? Change of heart? It speaks volumes to me that your gonna go the MMO route... CoH must be pretty good.

oh yeah, what's the combo with the rocket launcher/chaingun? i tried shooting the rocket with the gun, but didn't seem to do anything.

Hmm, not sure, I just get my info from the fanbois at the Painkiller forums. The address is: http://dreamcatcherinteractive.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=f0e1b77104df8818adda506d746c5598&forumid=58

The "City on Water" demo cracks my shit up, there was one of those fat guys with the Ball Gag in his mouth on top of one of the buildings, I capped him and he fell forward toward the water, on the way down his head hit a bridge and his limp body did a sloppy 180 and he finally hit the water, I had to have laughed for about 5 minutes after that, the game does have some funny shit in it.

i got bored with the first demo till i found out about the weapon combos

Exactly, did you know that you can shoot the "Painkiller" while it's spinning? It's not in the demo (either of them) but it will be in the release. There are things that are not exposed with the demo that will be in the full game. I'm not sure how people could be bored with this and find any other current FPS on the market any more fun (SP anyways).

console first person shooters are fucking stupid

I was at Lallapolluza (-sp) over the past Summer to see Janes Addiction and Microsoft had a XBOX Tent there so you could try their shit out. I walked up to a Station that was allowing the user to try RtCW so my girlfriend and I picked up a controller and started to mess around with the game. Personally, I REALLY can't understand how anyone can play an FPS game on a console, it had to be the clumsiest control implementation I have ever used, it just felt.. umm.. fucked up. Consoles certainly have their place, especially if you just want to throw a game in and play instead of having to search the internet for fucking PC drivers, but the FPS game IMHO is not the right place.

This demo probably adds the level called "City on Water" that can be found on the PC Gamer disc in this months issue. It is a fun level, check it out. I still really like this game and will probably buy it, the weapons are a bit different from the latest crop of FPS clones and the atmosphere (dark) is a lot more fun then the current games on the market (WW2, WW2, WW2, WW2 and Vietnam).

isn't it supposed to be available soon?

April 12th I believe. I went to compUSA yesterday to pick up a Broadband router and saw they had the PainKiller pre-order box (no game included) with the PainKiller Tee-Shirt for $10. I didn't buy it there as I will wait till Best Buy has it on sale for the first week or so for $10 off. Also, PC Gamer has a exclusive PainKiller demo that has a new level called Water City that is a real blast to play.

Diablo FPS? Mar 30, 2004, 10:54

Sounds like this may be a 3rd person Diablo type game? Not a bad idea I guess, I'd rather see a true, FPS, co-opertive Diablo style game as 3rd person's not my favorite view point.

Something from thier FAQ that kind of made me laugh:

Dungeon Lords is designed for the mainly for RPG players from age 14-35.

How did they come up with this demographic?? Usually it'd read 14 and up, just strikes me as funny that they think anyone over 35 can't or won't play or enjoy this game, 35 is still relatively young. I'll be 33 this year, I guess I'm getting close to the point where games won't be fun for me anymore.. hehehe.

No real pulse on when it happens or why, sometimes it doesn't happen for weeks, other times it happens a few days in a row.

Yeah, thats what I see, sporadic behavior. I generally save A LOT with my SP games (which is why games w/o quick save piss me off) because I know at any time I'll get the high whine total freeze.

Thanks for the input Cyber, I'll take a look at that temp. reading utility. I think my rig has two chasis fans, a P/S Fan, a CPU heat sink /w fan. I'll try to see if I can figure out how to write a program that will allow me to dump the tempurature readings to a file so I can look at the last reading before the lockup and maybe trend the data to see if there are any consistancies between heat and the lockups.

I only had it happen on Far Cry.

Dam, I guess I gotta 'go fish' :(. I may be having heat problems then... or I guess it could be a million different things... gah!

Yeah, I've turned off hardware sound, anti-aliasing, anisotropic filtering, I've turned the details all to medium, I've decreased sound acceleration in dxdiag - I've tried a lot of things...still get the lockups. The screen just freezes right up and then sits there until I do a hard restart.

Interesting, I get 'random' hard lockups with my ATI 9800 Pro card also. The current 'frame' will freeze and I get a very irrating scream from the speakers and can't reboot unless I hold the power button down for 4-5 seconds. I've also tried everything including different Driver Rev's and nothing seems to work. I get it on almost every game I play (Jedi Academy, NWN, UT2K4), do you see that also or just Far Cry?

If the retail price is $40.. Best Buy usually reduces the price by $10 so a $50 game would be $40, not $30.

From http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/product/235878.asp

PainKiller will be $39.99 retail and Best Buy will probably have it for $10 off the first week it is out, so it should be $29.99, which in my opinion is a good deal for this game. It's not an exact comparison to Serious Sam, it's a mix of Doom, Quake and Serious Sam. Painkiller DOES have some big outdoor levels, it's not all enclosed areas. The demo does show this.

I've been waiting to get Farcry until Best Buy drops it by a tenner, and now I see this. Which one to get? Any opinions?

Personally, the PainKiller Demo was MUCH more fun to me. I like the Doom/Quake Dark atmosphere and spooky sounds shoot'em up game styles, PainKiller is absolutely old-school. I will probably buy PainKiller at Best Buy the first week it's out to take advantage of the 'lower' introductory price Best Buy puts out. I'm buying it mostly for the SP aspect, doesn't sound like much 'MP' to it with only 7 maps (UT2K4 >= 100) total. But if I can get it for $30 it'd be worth it to me, I still play the demo from time to time, you should try that if you haven't. I think they both have a good demo out.

Kindly remove your blues account and go back to your daily ritual of bending over and taking it up the ass from Sony, while paying 15 dollars a month for the privilege.

HAHAHAHA!! Man, that's great, thanks for brightening my day today Creston, I had a good laugh over that one

But, we don't really know Valve's plans yet, so let's just wait and see.

Exactly. The other variable is, will HL2 be 'great' enough to even put up with an intrusive Content "Push" System like Steam with games like Far Cry, Doom 3 and others coming out and UT series making a big comeback. Before I make any decision about buying a 'game' that will require me to have an active internet connection through an intrusive push content system, the 'game' better be dam good, so the demo, if they have the balls to release one, better be dam good.
