its nowhere near that expensive to run game servers 24/7... most of it is profit, around 70% of that monthly fee

Are you talking about a 70% profit margin at $9.99 or at the new MMO rate of $14.99? I highly doubt a subscription fee of $9.99 is making a 70% profit margin, but maybe your right about it at a $15 subscription rate. Certainly, I think anything over $10 is just to high, but if people are gonna pay it companies will charge it, they are in the business to make money, period. I think WoW and EQ2 might just push the subscriptions over $15 to an all time MMO high, but people will grab their ankles and pay it, cause if you break it down for a typical month, it's just $ 0.53 a day, I spend that x3 on vending machine junk a day.

Oh yeah, how is the downtime in CoH? At say level 30, if you solo, how many MOBS (at your level) can you face within 1 hour?

Ugh! Unlike City of Heroes which I love, Lineage II rather sucks. I can't figure out why it's so popular in Korea.

Of course, we shouldn't allow games to be made that others then yourself may enjoy. Options and choices are bad.

Screw Korea (no really, why would I care? our IPs are blocked from there server), it's NA[/EU] sucess that matters. It's how populated the server I could (read: could. I'll never waste money on that game after playing in open beta) play on will be.

Well, I'm not gonna debate you on whether we should care about Korea or not, I'm just simply saying that L2 will not flop (as was said) because of the large Asian customer base and NA people looking to migrate from UO or being bored with PvE.

Cons:
Seems like it will just be a lvl grind. Kill baddies, lvl up, get new power, upgrade power... repeat.

Level grind isn't the bad part, it's the DOWNTIME that kills casual gamers such as myself. If I have to level up to get better, so what, I'm doing that in NWN:HotU right now but I like it, my little Dwarf Tank has almost ZERO downtime so it goes fast and smooth. On the flip side, if I dared to solo in EQ around level 20 I would fight for 5 minutes then sit for 20 while I healed or regenerated mana, so in the course of 1 hour I might fight 2 or 3 times for minimal xp... bad, bad, bad.

So the important question, for casual gamers should be..

How bad is the DOWNTIME? (For both Solo and Groups)

That would be great insight into how the game plays.

This game isn't going to flop like L2

I think you are forgetting that 500,000 Koreans will be playing L2 so I wouldn't be surprised if L2 has more people on it then CoH, plus not everyone is afraid of PvP MMO's.

I am also interested in trying out a Free Trail of CoH, but I would guess that won't be availible for at least 6 months or so.

Exactly ... no matter how much shit people talk, they will be the first in the store when it is released. Plus I wouldnt doubt more than half of them got it on pre-order right now.

Steam makes those statements invalid.

Yeah, they also made it for the Intellivision System, http://members.aol.com/pbjurman/intv.html, as well as the stand alone Arcade system, it competed with Atari 2600 and Coleko (-sp) back in the day.. man, I think I was in the 6th grade when this stuff was new...

Is this a sequel to Burger Time?

Glad I'm not the only one to think that!

Haha, me too. Wasn't that game made for the Intellivision System or something like that?

I just can't face the whole treadmill again.

Yeah, I agree totally. I said the same thing as I ran around in the Lineage 2 world... I loved the PvP environment but going out and killing MOB after MOB just to level seems so old and so done after playing UO (well, skilled based is the best so far) for 1 1/2 years, EQ for 2, DAoC for 1 I just don't have the patience it requires to grind it out anymore.

But yeah, I'd be nice just to see the gfx of the game.

Sounds to me like he's not getting Publisher funding since he's not making a WW2 game and he is frustrated.

This game requires you to "think", so it probably won't be good for you.

Huh? Wtf is your problem? I didn't say anything bad about it.

Jeez, poor David Allen, was 'forced' out of Artifact Entertainment and the Horizon's project (for the most part) and now his current gig has gone bad. I thought his original vision of what Horizon's was supposed to be was great, he was booted, the new brain-trust changed the vision, and the game came out full of suck.

Good luck on your next venture Mr. Allen.

So... is CoV actually PvP? They don't flat-out say it. It could very well be the same thing, only flipped.

Good point, can't seem to find any news about this on the CoH main site.

DAMMIT!!! Now CoH is really starting to sound fun (xpansion at least). A Super Hero MMO PvP game would be fantastic. Personally, I think they are doing a good thing here.

When they get around to having a free trial period of CoH I'll check it out. I've heard good and bad things about it so I want to have the oppurtunity to judge for myself... without getting stuck for $50.

and has more content right out of the box then probably both Tribes games combined.

Certainly I respect your opinion to not like Tribes 1/2, but if you have never even played either then how can you make a claim such as that?

Firstly, let's stop pretending that UT2K4 is a new game, because it isn't, it's an ADD-ON to UT2K3. You think UT2K3 was so great out of the box? Think again. UT2K3 SUCKED ASS and had little content. Did you play UT2K3? No, you didn't (from your previous posts) so you really don't know the history so why are you even comparing the release canidates of each?

UT2K4 IS a year plus old (plus the dev time for UT2K3, so maybe 3 years), Tribes 2 came limping out of the gates, no doubt there but in less then a year Dynamix had it straightened out and it was very stable and many users made Mods for it also. So if you want to compare apples to apples then compare them in the here and now, and Tribes 2 is much more robust then UT2K4 ONS, it's not even close dude.
