Furious, just to clarify, this is from the gamespy article. You get the hardware free on paying that monthly fee.

Yeah, I mean, getting free hardward is fine and all but $29.95 a month fee? For what? And that $29.95 is for the basic service, which we should all know means the "not so cool stuff" that you will get with the 'Premium' package. Look at Cable TV, the low end subscriptions give you squat. Just seems dumb to me, I mean I can understand the MMO subscription and where it goes, but what is 'this' fee for? It's not for the hardware as subscribing to the 2 year contract and getting free hardware is just a gimmic as they now know they have you for 2 years, cellphone campanies give away $200 dollar phones all the time for 2-3 year contracts.

This just doesn't make any sense at all.

This is BS, please no one support this. This is worse then the 1 year before release pre-order crap that encourages dev/publishers to release crappy games because they can justify it with pre-order numbers, most people pre-order vapor ware, just stupid. Both models are bad business.

$29.95 a month?? To play 'regular' video games (at an addition cost of $5 for 3 days)? MMO haters (the constant 3 or 4 posters here) should love this business model.

No thanks.

From reading PC Gamer this month, there seems to be a competing technolgy coming out that will allow a user to either play a PC Game on a TV or Monitor and companies like Alienware are jumping on that. Plus it gives you a TiVo like usage on top of gaming.

When your MMORPG has better graphics then your FPS, you know there is something seriously wrong.

Better graphics? And that did what for SWG? I'd rather have fun gameplay and 'good' graphics anyday, not that I'm going to assume the Battlefront is fun, just that graphics are a nice-ity.

If Battlefronts does turn out to be more fun then SWG then I think the quote should read "When you charge your customers a monthly subscription to play your 'pretty' MMORPG but your pay once to play average graphics FPS is more fun, you know there is something seriously wrong."

Yeah, I agree, at least it's different.

featuring Blitz's new 1-versus-many gameplay mechanic that will allow a single third-person player to take on multiple first-person enemies.

I think Citizen Kobuko (-sp) had a 1 verse Many MP mode so thats not innovative either.

I like to support independent Devs when I can.

Previews need to suck up and put a good spin on everything. Do you ever see negative previews about big-time games?

PC Gamer gave Horizons a 50% rating, not very good for a high budget MMO, so they don't grab their ankles for everyone.

It wasn't an official preview/review, it was a Hands-On column where the person who played Thief 3 wrote about the playing experience, and not all of it was positive, he/she stated there was some MOB encounter imbalances and other things that needed to get worked out but the feel wasn't so much different from the rest of the series.

There is no reason however for no demo now that it has gone gold. No demo, no sale.

PC Gamer gave it a good preview in the latest issue, not that what they say is Bible but they said it's not substantially different from 1 and 2. Just have to see I guess, no demo makes me wonder however...

but why should people care if its instanced or not?
In most of the newwer mmogs it seems that you just get a small group and go level grind, ignoring all other people, except when in a city.

From what I understand, with the traditional MMO's that have instanced zones, those instanced zones account for only 5% to 10% of the 'game world' whereas GW will be the opposite with 5% to 10% of the game world being a common place and the rest of the game Diablo style with 8 players. So with your EQ's and the like most of the game is still all common areas with certain quests and dungeons that are instanced. Sounds to me like GW is almost all instanced with the oppurtunity to grab 8 friends and go to the arena and fight other 8 person guilds.

I lost interest in any other MMORPG than Guild Wars the day I discovered that GW has no monthly fee.

GW isn't an MMO. It's somewhere between Battle.Net and an MMO. No one really knows the details of the pricing model. It is speculated that they will release expansions every 6 months or so and nobody knows the price of those either. The concept of GW sounds great, the word 'free' is being tossed around a little to loosely for my taste, I'll wait and see, I think some peoples expectations may be crushed.

Almost to the last chapter, every level has been fun so far, well rounded game, haven't been bored yet. Hitting the Demonic stage at the right time is a load of fun.

Yet, you dont tell him how he is uninformed.

*Sigh*

Did you read 'his' post? 'He' calls people 'idiots' for understanding why LARGE SCALE MMO's charge a subscription fee, 'he' puts blinders on (hence being uninformed) and uses GW as a reference point to why MMO's shouldn't charge a pay to play fee when GW is only a pimple on a large scale MMO's ass. GW != EQ. If your going to start calling people names, then at least be informed. Understand? Good.

Guild Wars uses instanced "worlds" - ie, only the towns are common areas. As soon as you leave town, you are in your own instance (along with your party). This drastically reduces the bandwidth and computation power necessary to power the game. In many ways it is closer to the mechanics of Diablo than a "true" MMO.

And if I remember right (so this isn't stated factually) from last months (or month before last) PC Gamer, you will only have 8 vs 8 for the actual "Guild War", it's not like L2 where you have 100's on the screen at the same time. I think it's the same for your party, 8 people dungeon crawling in an instanced area and as Wazootyman stated, you can see more at town locations. So really, this isn't equivilent to your conventional MMO, ie UO/EQ/DAoC etc. This game is a mere fraction of the scope of those games. It's a new paradigm (IMHO) and looks very interesting, I'm going to check it out on those dates.

Finally... maybe now these idiots whining about "blah blah server costs!! blah blah, employee time!!" will shut their fucking mouths and open their eyes to reality

God, I love when the uninformed look stupid. Buy a shovel.

I would guess (highest I got was 23) about a mob a minute maybe. So my answer would be 60 in an hour.

No Shit? A MOB a minute per hour at equal level? Are you sure? It's just very hard to believe. Man, the last time I was able to just cruise and have fun solo'ing in an MMO was UO (Greater Healing Potions).

Does EB allow you to return MMO's in the same fashion as other non-MMO games? If I can truly go in, have some fun without having to sit on my ass for 20 minutes after every battle, then this game sounds good...

Are you sure it's just not certain classes that dominate and have no downtime, aka, 'Tanks' have more downtime then 'Ranged' avatars? Sorry, I just feel like something is missing and I'm trying to cover all the bases, cause if I go by this, create a 'tank' and have to sit 3/4 of the time I'll be very cranky.
