I play AO and it has a dev team of 11. They are still improving and adding content. The game director has weekly updates on their forum to the player base.

I seriously doubt AoC is dying. They will ultimately take the same route. A smaller focused dev team. probably aobut 20-30 people because AoC still has tens of thousands of players.

FC is a good company for long term game support. They dont drop a game becuase it only makes 5 million a year instead of the 100m they wanted. If it can pay for itself and its team and generate a little profit then they seem to be satisfied.

In other words they are a real *game* oriented company.

You are wrong. As are the majority of people out there who bash on micro transaction games. It ok to pay someone 15 bucks a month. But its not ok to pay a company 15 bucks a month or less on some cool custom gear that makes your avatar a little unique and customized?

Look at Combat arms. they sell customized versions of weapons and armor that you already have the stats for and or acquired in game loke desert or arctic versions of m14's etc..

TR was a failure that was re imagined into a even worse failure. Seriously Garriot had an idea and wanted to play with runes again. The DEVs tried to make up an MMO ruleset around that. They threw in instancing after GW showed what could be done. They empphasized the SF because RG thought fantasy was overdone and he wanted to go to space. So congrats everyone who supported TR, you got Richard into space. The game, the Koreans, and the players were always second in TR's publishing.

The last numbers i saw tabula rasa was generating 1.5m a quarter. It is one thing to shut down a game that "isnt meeting expecations" it is quite another to shut down a game generating 5m a year in revenue just because you wanted wow.

You will already have recouped a lot of your 50m production cost by sales with that level of playerbase. Surely the game and staff can be run on 3-4m a year even with added content packs. generating 1m in pure profit

I know my numbers are simple but the industry is getting totally ridiculous. Nothing short of 10's of million in revenue is worth the time. You cant look at each product according to its own merrits and self sustaining value.

I started playing AO again after a long break (when it first came out in 2001) and let me tell you these guys have figured out how to make an MMO. Sure you can poke holes in anything but AO is now one content rich well developed game. Its funny because i am now addicted to it even though its been out for years...

A good game is a good game even if it takes a while to get there.

Say what you want but he and his small dev team are slowly but surely advancing this game to a level that puts it squarely at the top of deep space sims.

When you consider how pubs like EA trash one dev after the next even if you think this guy is a jerk you have to respect the fact that he has stayed the course and makes one of the only fully featured true space sim left in existence.

Honestly I bet that at least 1/2 of you would like the last UC game released. And this new one pretty much puts to rest the remaining complaints about graphics. every ship has its own cockpit, the space stations look awesome, everything is to scale, you can still do trading, explore planets, destroy cities, mine for minerals and engage in massive space combat.

I hope this new game gets the credit it will probably deserves.

I am personally totally sick and fed up with "M" rated games. Most games are getting released with an "M" rating especially FPS and RPG's. FEAR is a prime example. You do not need the ridiculous levels of Profanity in that game. It adds nothing to that game. Most of the "M" rated games are just like this.

Will be interesting to see how this pans out. I'd be lying if I said that I was never tempted to grab Derek Smart's other games off of GameTap since it's so easy and I've been curious as to how bad they really are. Will be playing these for sure because of that curiosity.

Who knows, maybe they won't be all that bad! Stranger things happen. Particularly curious as to whether they'll hit the top games played.

These games are not bad and have not been bad for a long time. I dont care what the idiots on this and other forums post. they are flat out dishonest and wrong. The graphics are solid and the gameplay in deep, interesting, and unique. If you havve any sim/scifi in you at all and a little patience the games really pay off.

The problem is *anyone* can look at this game or the last game i bought UC:SE and see that you guys are completely and uttterly full of crap. The Games graphics are very good for a space sim game. Plus there are aspects of the game you guys never address or even check out to see for yourself. Like the amazing scope of the size of everything.

I also own ST Legacy and other space styled games and the grapics in the current version of this series are better in many many ways.

I hate the way MMO's have no ending, and are clearly designed to extract money out of you and get you hooked. I think when people reach their 30's these kinds of games really don't appeal anymore. No, Most of the players of MMO's are 20's-40's. They like these games because they have long term team play and competition elements and a continuous sense of accomplishment and community.

These games are not out there deceiving anyone or only hooking mindless teens. they have a lot more depth than murdering helpless people for 6 hours in games like GTA.

I am 38 and I play Anarchy Online off and on. Mostly because I like the Scifi thing and it has a nice feel to it. I will probably try Conan when it comes out because i am a huge R.E.H. Fan.

I always find it funny when people seem to say its 5050 on the format war. 7/8 major studios now use BluRay, Dell the largest PC maker in the world supports it, Apple supports it, Sony (of course) and the largest electronics makers support it including panasonic and their budget brands, all the major optical drive makers are supporting it along with many more.

BluRay produces a better picture, and better sound than HDDVD and now the price for making them has dropped due to PS3 game production as well as increased production facilities HDDVD has no advantage.

Could it all change? Sure... but itd take a massive influx of HDDVD players which isnt happening yet. It will at some point but if they'e not quick the PS3 will fill up some of that demand.

the AMP II engine demo released a couple years ago was graphically on a similar level to enhanced Q3 or Fear. You can still download the demo and see for yourself.

the Game they would release would obviously have decent to quality graphics and have really nice and fun multiplayer. Gore multiplayer was an awesome multiplayer deathmatch game.

there is plenty of room in the current world of BF clones for a classic Multiplayer shooter with cool custom ideas like

1. Fatigue factor
2. All weapons, armor, ammo, health etc are destructible.
3. Fatigue based weapon damage

most of you never played gore multiplayer you are just claiming to have. Obviously you have never looked at the AMP II demo from a few years ago.
