Mad Blacks: Beyond Superdome.

LOL! Thatwould have a rascist tinge to it were it not for the fact that it is true. In all the rioting or looting footage shown, I have not seen anyone one of any other color - white, yellow, or brown.

Not trying to start something here - but that just struck me as very interesting. May be because they are the only ones left there, or the media is biased - I dont know, but that really stood out in the footage.

Funny thing is this was predicted and aired on NATIONAL TELEVISION a year ago.

http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/sciencenow/3204/02.html

And a transcript of what was disccused is on the following link - about half way down the page.

http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/transcripts/3204_sciencen.html

They say that if a major storm had a direct hit here, the effect would be devastating. They're talking perhaps as many as 50,000 dead, up to a million homeless and a city under water.

Edit - yeah, its PBS and no one watches PBS nowadays. But people whose JOB it is to think about this stuff and prepare for it, DID think about. But money was never provided to prepare for it.

Like the saying goes: When there is a fire, people start to dig for a well"

Yeah, because a marsh is really going to stop the hurricane

A lot of the flooding is a result of the storm surge. Marsh and wetlands soften the blow by absorbing some of the storm surge. The same way the effects of the tsunami last year could have been softened if there were similar marshes/wetlands (which did exist, just cleared away for human habitation, just like it was done in the Gulf Coast).

Some of those later missions to the farther NW of the wall are really, really pissing me off.

You are better off doing those two quests from Grendich Courthouse then from Pikens Square.

The match-making system would team us up with 2 random people, though, so it was hard to really strategize much. It would be better if we had 4 people play over several games and coordinating efforts, etc.

That is what GvG battles are for. PvP battles are usually just random pairings. ArenaNet is working on intra guild battles for practice purposes, as well is in-game spectating with a 30 second delay to prevent cheating).

Elite skills are a lot of fun.

The world is big - very big - and the game is HUGE. I just ascended me first character this weekend, and I have yet to visit the southern Shiverpeaks, Volcanic area, Hall of Heroes, Underworld, or any PvP.

Quite wasting time in pre-searing and move on to the real game. And despite Creston's complaints (many of which are valid), the game is hella fun!

the problem with both guild wars and BF2 is you HAVE to depend on other people for success

In GW, you can solo by hiring henchies. Although I would not recommend that in PvP.

you'll need to have the latest 1.3 patch installed to run the mod.

That solved the problem. Thnx!

Speaking of nerds (of which I am one), I stumbled into Lion's Arch this weekend only to find a marriage taking place on the docks.

You mean like an actual ceremony involving real people getting married in real life ?! Or like people role playing a marriage to show that they joined some kind of special guild?

Dowloaded the demo yesterday and played with it briefly. Very good game - cross between NOLF and Doom 3 in many ways - gameplay and AI of NOLF, atmosphere of D3.

But they better optimize this sucker before release. I was getting slowdowns playing at 1024 x 768 res! At first I thought it was some kind of joke or the auto in-game diagnostic was buggy when it recommended that resolution to me. But I kept the recommended settings and I was getting occasional slowdowns.

I have an A64 3200+, 1.5 gigs of 3200 RAM, and an X800 XT powering the game, and I am getting slowdowns at 1024 x 768?! (latest drivers and updates for all hardware). I mean shit, I have managed to play Doom 3 relatively smoothly with medium graphics details at 1920 x 1200 resolution and only get slowdowns when there is a lot of heat haze (like in the Hell levels).

And this game is giving me slowdowns at 1024 x 768?! They better optimize this sucker or they will not get a sale from me, even as good as the gameplay is. Either that or I wait for it to end up in the bargain bin for $15-$20.

And don't argue that this is a newer engine so it has higher requirements. If I can play D3 engine at 1920 x 1200 on my rig without major slowdowns (except in the hell levels), then this game needs to at least run on par.

They need to optimize this engine before they release.

Not trying to troll at all, but ....

Did you guys not know that EA/Dice followed this same pattern with the release of BF1 and BF:V? Why would you jump in, especially with that history, and with a publisher of EA's reputation?

I will buy this game, if at all, a year from now when it is in the bargain bin and all the bugs have been sorted out either by EA/Dice or third party fanbois.

The "System Shock 2: Rebooted" mod team moved on and are now doing a FPS/RPG Doom 3 mod called "Sapphire Scar" with similar elements from System Shock 2.

Ah, thank you very much. It is now bookmarked. Perhaps my investment in D# will pay off after all
