Dowloaded the demo yesterday and played with it briefly. Very good game - cross between NOLF and Doom 3 in many ways - gameplay and AI of NOLF, atmosphere of D3.
But they better optimize this sucker before release. I was getting slowdowns playing at 1024 x 768 res! At first I thought it was some kind of joke or the auto in-game diagnostic was buggy when it recommended that resolution to me. But I kept the recommended settings and I was getting occasional slowdowns.
I have an A64 3200+, 1.5 gigs of 3200 RAM, and an X800 XT powering the game, and I am getting slowdowns at 1024 x 768?! (latest drivers and updates for all hardware). I mean shit, I have managed to play Doom 3 relatively smoothly with medium graphics details at 1920 x 1200 resolution and only get slowdowns when there is a lot of heat haze (like in the Hell levels).
And this game is giving me slowdowns at 1024 x 768?! They better optimize this sucker or they will not get a sale from me, even as good as the gameplay is. Either that or I wait for it to end up in the bargain bin for $15-$20.
And don't argue that this is a newer engine so it has higher requirements. If I can play D3 engine at 1920 x 1200 on my rig without major slowdowns (except in the hell levels), then this game needs to at least run on par.
They need to optimize this engine before they release.
