Right Herve, because you did such a bang up job with that Fallout IP. BG, IWD and PT are out because I doubt you can afford get a license from Infogrames/Atari for AD&D. What does that leave? Stonekeep, that pile of crap Lionheart? This just looks like investor bait so he can churn out some shovelware based prior art.

It was a sequel that nobody was asking for with a story that had the original creator had no hand in, that arrived five years after everyone had forgotten about the original series outside of a horrible movie adaptation. Pity is, the game is actually worth playing. But it didn't need to be a Max Payne game, and the fact that it is may be what is hurting it in sales.

Of course, the company will just wind up blaming piracy.

Why does EA find it so hard to believe that a buggy console port which contained less than eight hours worth of gameplay and one-note multiplayer that got boring after 5 rounds didn't garner many sales at their $60 dollar price point? The game was fun, but not $60 worth of fun. More like $15 worth of fun.

If they do, it will be a good object lesson in how NOT to get a Kickstarter project funded. The primary reason the other two high profile game related projects were such a success is because the people who chose to engage in them are the people who the gaming public at large have been specifically asking to create the things that they have committed to creating. I look at Beamdog and their staff list and think, who?

The nice thing about having the support of a large studio is that when something isn't working out, there are always a lot of expendable people between you and the bean counter with the axe.

I can believe the part about him being wary about accountability. I'm surprised that after this long in the business he hasn't developed the focus and self-discipline necessary to see his ideas through to the end, but in reality, he hasn't had to.

Keep the budget big, keep the hype going, and in the end, you only need to take credit for the stuff that works in order to keep your name alive. I just hope he never has to go back to being indie. He'd never survive.

I want more creative content to be funded like this.

Money up front to buy a product that I know that I want, but that can't seem to get created through normal channels without someone in the middle screwing things up. No marketing people, no stockholders, no publishers who think they are developers, just people who are good at making the type of thing I want given the ability to remain solvent while making something they want and a promise that they will send me a copy when they are finished.

This is already redefining independent music, now it is expanding to game development in a more visible way.

Let the market speak, not the marketers.

I don't care about the reviews by critics. What I find telling are the reviews and complants from people who actually bought the 'recent' version of the game.

I hope the folks on the Steam Forums are successful in getting their money refunded, as that seems to be the common theme.

I'm relieved to hear this.

I appreciate what Notch has done thus far, but Jeb has demonstrated a much more steady hand these past few months both in the public domain and in the coding domain. Given the long laundry list of bug fixes that still need to be ironed out, I'd rather see Jeb calling the shots now that the product is no longer deemed to be beta. More work, less drama.

Nice patch. Which programmer refactored the MagicTarget class to give everything a magic resistance of 1 across the board? Same one who added an extra hook to the book closing script which caused all the bookcases in the player home(s) to break I would guess.

So glad I kept a backup to allow me to revert back to 1.1.

Next time, make sure the people making the patch are sober, have had a good nights rest, and weren't lying about their qualifications on their job application. Oh, and sack the QA department since they clearly don't do anything.

Good for them. As much crap as I give Bethesda for buggy products, they actually evaluated how things needed to progress from the standpoint of someone who wants to play a game and released something which improved on their earlier work. I hope all the excuse makers at Bioware who decided that Dragon Age 2 failed because there was no market for this type of game take a few moments to let these figures sink in.

This product is a success because the core product has appeal that can be spread by enthusiasm carried over from prior products, word of mouth, and the ability to endure under critical scrutiny. It leaves the retarded fringe crap up to the modders to create, rather than letting the writers and developers indulge in it.
