is the one that lets you run the game without the damn "Play Disc" in your drive (I have a home and a work machine, I don't want to carry the disc back and forth). Unreal 1 had a simple fix for this, and it doesn't seem to have stopped the pirates - I guess InfogramEs just plain doesn't like its paying customers.

Can I overcome my severe distaste for Gainward's obnoxious, brainless "golden sample" ads in order to a get a quiet GeForce FX?

They don't whine, they know the score. Usually when the studio is bought, the previous shareholders are contracted to stay a certain period to secure the value of the studio. When that time runs out, they leave, because they prefer the independent environment. I've heard no "whining" from Molyneux etc., you're putting words in other people's mouths.

Point of fact: Oliver Stone was there, the film was autobiographical. His character is played by Charlie Sheen in the movie.

Well I'm probably not alone in totally missing that this was part of a series. The "High Performance" banner at the top looks like an ad, and the link at the bottom is easily missed. But I'm surprised that UGO decided to lead with Unreal 2 in this series when Infogrames were so uncooperative. If anything, that speaks of a certain integrity on UGO's part.

The link from Blue's just said "Unreal 2 preview", and didn't mention that it was part of an Intel feature. Still, gotta get your facts right...

Well I enjoyed the demo up to a point. Great graphics, good Bond-type music, really atmospheric. BUT:

It feels like a bog-standard shooter. Headshots count for nought, each enemy takes about 6 shots to kill with any weapon. Bond should be able to take out a bad guy with one shot from his PPK.

The environments are barely interactive. Some glass breaks, but not all. The paper-thin walls in the Japanese house are bullet-proof, so you can see through them (with the X-ray specs) but not shoot.

Invisible walls make an appearance! I got onto a balcony, and saw a skylight across a courtyard. I thought I'd try to get onto the roof and drop through the skylight, but was stopped by an invisible wall. I kind of stopped feeling like I was James Bond at that point.

Still, great atmosphere.

Game developers, please try to understand, it's only a PROJECT to you. To us it's a GAME. Project Ego, Project Nomads, the Dark Project... what do these games have in common? The plot does not involve any kind of PROJECT!

"Project XYZ" is the kind of name you give to a game that's halfway through development and hasn't found a publisher yet. Give it a rest.

While the cel-shaded characters look great, sadly the backgrounds just look like plain polygon environments, and not very detailed ones. It would have been nice to evoke the hand-painted originals in some way, as it is the cartoon-like effect seems really diminished.

To the guy who thinks "lay off the crack" is an original witty put-down. I have a GF 4 and a P4 2.2, faster than yours I think.

OF is a wargame, it involves strategy and tactics, it's simulation. Compared to Operation Flashpoint, TC's GR is a Quake clone that OD'd on the realism pills.

And don't call me "dude" you ignorant teenage virgin.

where the merely average is praised as insanely great. PC Gamer? You should be ashamed of yourselves. IGN? Doesn't matter.

The main award, the one with the most clout, is the CGW game of the year. The winner? Operation Flashpoint, and deservedly so. It's the game Tom Clancy's wishes it could be.

Wolfenstein has a better claim on this, but Op Flash is the real GotY.

Gee that sounds like a crap game, so I guess there' no point making a sequel to it then.

Early hype aside, AoM looks damn FINE. Is your product as good?

Wolf is sure as hell more deserving to be game of the year than the gratingly unfunny, slow, NOLF, which had a GotY edition last year. RTCW was a good singleplayer shootemup and a great MP team game. Not a classic, but what better game was released in the last 12 months? I sure can't think of one, except maybe JK2 which probably wasn't in contention for whatever award Wolf got.

What award did it get?
