very consoleish, but pretty fun too.
Nothing too advanced here, but their special moves are fun, and it runs fine scaled down on my laptop with integrated nvidia geforce go 6100

Thanks for teh funnay

I agree.... big f'in deal....
Anyway, back on topic...
I used to be a hardcore tribes 1 fan, until I got my hands on 2142. It takes teamwork to a whole new level.
Sure it has it's problems, but they're nothing big enough to keep me from playing a few hours each night.

If you haven't tried this game yet, DO SO NOW!

I posted a few days back about not being able to share my dialup connection across my home network.

I finally fixed the prob and just wanted to tell you guys how.
It wound up that AOL was screwing things up. It won't let you share the connection. I had to get a program called xproxy. Then in internet exporer, settings, I had to click a setting for "use proxy server" or something.

Don't really know why this made it work...
And I really can't believe this was so freaking hard to do!

But anyway..... disaster averted.

Anyone help with comp prob? Mar 11, 2006, 15:05
Mar 11, 2006, 15:05

Can anyone help with this?
I am trying to share my dialup connection between my two computers, both running xp. The problem is, my newer computer, the one that would be the host, has a network adapter called 1394. When networked, the 1394 connection appears in my network places on the client computer. In my network places on the host, only the 1394 connection has the option for "share this computers internet connection". And checking that doesn't work.
I wind up with both computers being networked, where I can pass files back and forth, but no internet connection on client computer.
Could the 1394 connection be throwing things off? Shouldn't there be in option to share internet in the "local area connection" settings?
I've set host ip to 192.168.0.1 and the other to ... .2 but the red "collision" light is blinking on my hub.
I've also tried using the wizard on both machines. No firewall running in either machine.
I know this is a ridiculous question and that there are thousands of variables involved, but anything jump to mind? i'm desperate here.

thanks

I'm considering buying Half life 2. I was wondering how long the intial required download (decryption) whatever will take since I connect with a 56K modem. Basically, how long until I can play the game?

The original tribes is still my favorite multiplayer game of all time! The balance was perfect, pacing was perfect, and it does actually require some skill. I still play tribes 1 every day and can attest that the community is alive and strong.

I agree with the other posters comments about how the mods generally suck. If you want to play, look for the base servers.

If you haven't played the original, then start. It's free for christs sake....

thanks for the info about 32 bit vs 64 bit.

I tried a pci video card and that works. Leads me to believe may be possible conflict between video card (radeon x300 se 256 mg pci-e), and motherboard (A8AE-LE Motherboard). I'm looking for a site that might mention this conflict. I got the bios update for my board as well.

I guess it's just a coincidence it's happening again.
I was having the same problem with my old computer and old video card. I figured buying all new hardware would fix it. It's crazy that that didn't even work.

I'm just NOT SATISFIED with the new amd 3700 64 bit machine I bought. On top of STILL not being able to get my PCI-e 3d card working (fukking beep error code and monitor doesn't turn on), when I want to get a new 3d card, I find out there no AGP slots! Just two extra PCI. Oh joy, thanks.

I've updated the bios, the fan on the card spins, power supply isn't an issue, tried disconnecting dvd and cd roms.
Everybody tells me that it's probably the 3d card, but what are the chances that MY card is the 1 in a billion that came off the assembly line broken?! I don't believe it.

Does anyone have a link, or a short explanation about how a 2.4 gig machine ( my amd) is faster than a 3.4 gig pentium?

I just bought a new video card ( Xtasy ati radeon x300 se 256meg PCI xpress) and I'm having the SAME problem here, as with my old computer and video card!!!!!

I opened up the computer, installed the video card, and turned on the machine. 2 seconds into boot up I get the beep error codes that indicate a problem with the video card (1 long 2 short beeps).

The only thing that is the same between this computer, and my last one where i had the same problem is the monitor, and it can't be the monitor can it?

I thought I left this god forsaken error behind when I bought my new computer. What the hell could this be guys!!? Can anyone help???

NOTES:
onboard video works fine.
I've tried disabling onboard video first.
when the video card is in, the video card fan starts when i turn on the computer.

thanks for the advice with my computer.
Someone mentioned that I wouldn't have an OS that would make use of the optimizations of a 64 bit machine. But if i recall correctly, the other day blue posted a link to a patch to call of duty 2 that enabled 64 bit optimization.
Would those sort of things work with the normal version of XP?

right now i'm leaning towards an AMD Athlon 64 3700. (that means 3.7 ghz right?)
pricewatch has it for $480.

or maybe

AMD Athlon 64 3800 (939 Pin)
for $640, but don't know if it's worth the extra $160.

50 degrees today in West Chester, PA.

For christmas my folks are letting me pick out a new computer (just the tower). I was wondering if you guys could offer any advice. I was planning to order it online because I think I can get it so much cheaper (pricewatch.com). Are there any stores with comparable prices?

Is the 64 bit machine worth it?
Is it rated in MHZ like 32 bit comps?

Pricewatch.com has this listed: any good?
$600 Pent4 3.2
1 gig ram
240 gig HD

Any recommendations on a video card?
I was hoping to stay under $700 with a video card included.

Thanks a lot for your help guys.

I'm having a problem with my computer. Does anyone have any ideas?

When I turn it on, I get the "error beep" code of 1 long, 2 short, and the computer will sound like it's booting up, but nothing will ever display on the screen. That error code, means there is a problem with the video card. Starting the computer without the video card in, and the monitor plugged into the motherboard, works fine, but I'm trying to get my video card working again.
I've found that by switching the video card between the two PCI slots, and restarting the computer from anywhere between 3 - 100 times, if I hear the beeps, can usually get her working.
The other day I had to unplug my machine, and NO amount of restarts seems to be fixing it. I'm sure that just buying a new card would probably do it, but I don't have any money, nor access to another video card. And I've cleaned connections, checked the card for anything loose etc., and the fact that SOMETIMES the video card works means she isn't completely busted.
Has anyone else had a problem like this before? Are multiple, and by multiple I mean MULTIPLE, restarts really that bad for the computer? These restarts come within 5 seconds of eachother, when I hear beeps right as it starts up, I restart her.

thanks

Could anybody recommend a tech forum where you've been able to get help for a computer problem you've had ?
There's gotta be a good one out there.
Thanks.
