I gave ATi several tries over the years. The last one was returned for the very same reason it had been years since my last attempt at happiness with an ATi card... driver support is still spotty at best. Far fewer issues with Nvidia cards over the years. And that is the only reason I still buy Nvidia over ATi.

I may give them another try when I build my next system but I'll have to buy someplace local that accepts returns.

What is ironic about switching to a lesser game rig?

LoL, that's one of those d'uh! comments, isn't it? The whole situation is ironic. What you just stated included. Plus with all the PC release issues currently being complained about I figured it couldn't be more evident. I won't agrue with you that the PC is the better gaming rig. It is. Most of the time.

"I don't really like this game, maybe its the beta gameplay that jaded my view of it but it feels too arcade for my taste."
There is a HardCore mode at least on the PS3 version I have and it's less arcade more like old school PC BF games.

"I didn't say the computer would go away.. but the companies out there that make their bread and butter on aftermarket parts.
You have to think pretty deep here.. if there's no gaming market driving the need for the latest technology.. that trickle down effect cuts deep."

If you asked me I'd say it's already happened. I have a PC I built going on three years ago with an almost two year old video card and it's the recommended system for BFBC2 PC? Unless they changed it since I bought and canceled my Steam pre-order.

It's so ironic that I have gone from being a hardcore PC gamer to mainly a PS3 gamer. I logged hundreds of hours of play on every BF game until 2142 (which I skipped) on the PC. I bought BFBC for the XBox 360 and now have BFBC2 for the PS3. I must say it is an awesome game. Not perfect. There are still the persistent Dice bugs in there but overall it reminds me of all those hours of fun playing on the PC years back. But there aren't any server issues besides the EA store. I haven't got all my pre-order unlocks. Just missing the one but doubt it will make any difference now since I've unlocked a load of weapons already. It's also reassuring to know the odds of hackers ruining the online game on the PS3 are slim to none compared to the PC which is almost a given.

I remember on the PC the first weeks being the best and after that the public servers would be over run with morons and their downloaded skills. I hope that doesn't happen with this one. If I do get a copy it will be via Steam. Those who have it let us know how the PB and VAC are working in the next week or so when the hacks start to take over.

How do you cancel a pre-order. I know somebody posted the info on Blue's several weeks or months back. I've been trying to find their contact number and after half an hour of searching their site I can't find any number to call them at.

The beta for MAG was the first console FPS I've played since the N64 days. It took a few hours to get good with the controller but after that I was loving it. Won't be at the mid-night sale but I'll be playing for several hours tomorrow night no doubt.

I also pre-ordered BBC2 on Steam. There is an early access period but can you cancel if the beta gives you a bad feeling? Not sure I'll love it but it looks damned fun.

I enjoyed the MAG beta. It's the best online tactical shooters I've played in a long time. One of the best console shooter if you ask me. As far as the Penny Arcade comic they should have added some bit about a noob... within a squad of noobs. Maybe then it would have been funny? And as far as the IGN blurb... your so called "preview" of the beta... I'd say that you're stretching the meaning of preview there. The article or blurb sounds more like the original writer was "running and gunning" as he described not actually playing the game the way it was designed to be played. And the other three editors were just brain dead. Sure you can run around like Rambo shooting everyone and everything... including your teammates... or knifing them in the back like the one idiot was attempting to do while reloading his weapon... you just won't enjoy the game as much if you're going to play it like a retard. Nor will you earn as many points at the end of the round. If you're not vote kicked... which you most likely will be. Sorry, but it sounds like all those lamers... I'm mean Editors... who wrote that article need to learn how to form an objective opinion before writing about games since they are attempting it as a career. Maybe even spend some time learning the game since it sounds like they couldn't manage that either.

If you're running twenty minutes to get to an objective in MAG you are lost and should go back to the CoD type games. The game is not perfect but it is far better than your average console shooter and requires the use of ones brain at times... I know hard to believe a shooter that requires a bit of thought. But then from the statements in that article/blurb and from the gameplay exhibited during the beta I doubt most people are up to the task. Maybe it is destine to fail... for all those who can't muster a few brain cells or join a Clan. We shall see soon enough.

I was bored to death from the beginning. I gave it four hours of play before going to bed and now have no desire to ever boot it up again. Shocking how blah the whole thing felt.

Crazy thing is cellular phones have been around for over thirty five years now yet the service is still shitty at best. Anyone signing up for a wireless service knows that unless their just slow. Either way wireless will never take over wireline unless the big three (at&t, Verizon, and Quest) can remove the government road blocks that require them to provide services to those areas that are less lucrative. And that is what it's really about, is it not?

So what do you use then? Comcast? Does your lack of landline use make you more mobile? I'm just curious because I see nothing in wireless that can't be done better/faster/cheaper over wireline services.

I'm seeing a thick layer of BS from this at&t push to set a date when they will no longer be required to maintain landlines. How do you think 99% of all wireless services sites are fed? Mostly by both copper and/or fiber.

It's pretty easy to read between the lines for me. They are lying as usual. They've shifted their marketing toward Wireless and U-Verse. They've shifted the signing up of all services to contractors, the Internet, and Wireless side of the business. So even though the services sold are still 75% wireline services the intake of the service fees is mostly through the wireless side of the company. So it appears that POTS is dropping drastically.

They've been manipulating the data since DSL was first put on the market about ten years ago. Subscribers would sign up for linesharing DSL (one line with both dial tone and data) and shut down their second service which was dedicated for dial up. The company would gain revenue yet they would start crying about losing landline subscribers. They're doing the same thing now even though revenue is through the roof with wireless market domination and their new TV services which are over copper and/or fiber.

Not to mention they have stock in many other telcos around the world. If wireline services are in the shitter why buy up a large portion of a telco in India? Though I'm not sure if that deal went through or went south.

Funnier yet, they are pushing VOIP which is still shitty by the way and won't be satisfactory for use to most customers. If VOIP is so great why do so many of the subscribers come back to landline or switch over to cellular only? Because it's just not reliable, it doesn't work with all providers (globally), and there are still a lot of products on the market that won't work VOIP (alarms systems, calling cards, etc.) Most of the competition is dropping VOIP also I've noticed. Still can't believe they can sell you a service that has no direct access to the 911 network. I can name three companies selling services locally that have none. You call 911 you get nothing. Have you ever called 911 from a cell phone? Or VOIP? There are dozens of lawsuits now against VOIP providers by subscribers who had a loved one die because the 911 dispatch went to the service providers office not the subscribers premise. That alone is reason enough to pay up for cheap landline for anyone with a family.

So yeah, it's great that you don't need landline services. Congrats. But most people are far better off sticking to what works and whats cheaper. What blows my mind though is people who can't afford a cheap POTS line with no frills yet they lock themselves into a two year cellular account with unlimited data required. Guess it goes back to the sucker born every minute? Or is it different strokes? Either way c'est la vie!

SWEET Mother of God! Finally something is released. These guys are doing this part time and as Indie as Independent can be... so it's amazing they have done so many years of work. So many projects fall apart over time. Congrats Iron Tower!

And yeah, technically it's the same combat demo... though it has been tweaked and debugged for several months as in-house testing and several select forums members have played and replayed it submitting bugs and complaints. I'm just glad they are rounding third base and running toward home.

I had to stop visiting the forums because the process was becoming too much for me to reading about day in and day out. Again, thanks to Iron Tower and all those regulars who have helped all these years. I can't wait to finally purchase the final product... I'm hoping soon? Like in the next six months to a year... maybe?

Maybe this will actually draw me back to PC Gaming. After about 75 hours of Dragon Age I lost interest and have been playing PS3 games exclusively since. Demon's Souls, Uncharted 2, AC2, and inFamous... not to mention several betas. Great stuff...

Remember the AOL lawsuit in the late 90's? Users were signing up for unlimited usage but couldn't log in or constantly got dropped due to there services being over sold. Far more subscribers than actual modems to sign-in on.

I threw my name into the hat. Mostly because the bastards kept charging me for months even though I repeatedly called them and told them I had canceled.

Anyway, AOL lost and millions were paid out. What did the subscribers get? Two FREE months of AOL service... muahahah! Justice is blind in America... as well as deaf and dumb!

I've been very busy on the PS3 playing Demon's Souls... addictive as Hell. Anyway the game I was playing when I borrowed Demon's Souls from a friend.... AC2. I was enjoying AC2 on the PS3 also. Though I can't say I'd buy any DLC for it unless it added more options to the game-play. Not that there aren't quite a few as it is. Just wishing for more... I guess.

What happened to the Christmas release of DLC for DA:O? Not that I'd buy it if it's anything like Warden's Keep. What a rip-off that was.

Somebody has to pay for all those that are unemployed... since a low percentage of those are actually willing to be employed. The "aid" system in this state is a joke. We continue to rewarding losers for dropping out, for getting knocked up at sixteen, and for having more children just so that they can have more "aid". People no-longer come here to find work... they come here to work the system.

A couple years back there was a large exodus of Asians to a north eastern state because their "aid" system was even easier to work than the one the state of California has in place. You know how I heard about it? An Asian guy I work with told me about it. LoL!

Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying all those living off the system are leeches but a majority are.

Anyway, I believe at least part of his claim... but on the other hand they did make a lot of mediocre games.

Most definitely the best online shooters were the early games from BF series, the R6 games, and the first Ghost Recon. And one of the worst for hacks was BF2. Once the hacks were created and distributed freely it was the end of BF2. I remember watching a video that showed all of a dozen or so hacks in one package toggled by the function keys. Most were developer tools left in the game. And since DICE refused to become aggressive and simply moved onto creating BF 2142... I refused to buy 2142.

After watching a couple videos from MW2 I'm also glad I didn't buy it for the PC. It's too bad there has never been anything better than VAC. Even when I played leagues and/or competitive R6... PB was a huge joke. Funniest shit evar was when one of the PB team was caught hacking during a league game of R6 RvS... she claimed her son must have used her PC and installed the hack. Yeah, right!

So much for the glory days of online shooters... when one shot could kill... and your character couldn't run around like a crack monkey bunny hopping from place to place wall hacking the entire time.
