Whilst I agree in most cases that FF should always be on with FPS games, UT2003 isnt one of them. There would be a shit load of TKs no thanks to the speed and spammy weapons.

"Realistic" (ish) games like MoH:AA, BF1942 and RTCW require FF on otherwise they get too spammy with air strikes/grenades/cannons constantly being used around team mates defending an objective which makes it almost impossible to win. Case in point is RTCW with FF off. The objective area is covered by 1 Engineer and about 4 Lieutenants. The engineer parks his arse at the objective whilst the LTs take it in turn to throw Air Strike cannisters at the engineer who is left unharmed but makes it pretty hard for the other team to get close to plant dynamite, especially if they dont know the engineer is there due to the coloured smoke surrounding him. If they succeed to plant the engineer can happily diffuse the dynamite whilst the area is spammed by grenades/airstrikes from his own team.

dont get me started on plane campers.

Many times Ive been on the allied side trying to take on several japs at a flag point all because over half of my team was stood around like pricks at the plane spawn ground.

I really wish the patch fixed the 60hz menu "issue".

Its ok in game when you allow all refresh rates in that .con file, but the menu being 60hz really hurts my eyes something chronic on this 21" monitor. Just setting the keys up made my eyes run.

Regarding not having the assault because the majority didnt like it.
What makes the better game..

UT2003 with CTF, DM, Dom, BombRun
- or -
UT2003 with CTF, DM, Dom, BombRun, Assault

See what im getting at? If Assault was in as well as the other modes, everybody is happy. Removing Assault makes those who didnt like it happy and those who did like it unhappy so they are losing fans.

Anyway thats enough about it (for now.. )

If you really want to show your disdain for a game/game company, then don't buy or PLAY their game... but don't take the punk way out and pirate it.

Where did I mention I was pirating it.

Sigh. Without assault mode, what's the point

Absolutely none. Its the reason I wont be buying it thats for sure. I'll just get an advanced demo nudge nudge wink wink.

OOOh.

I just tried BF1942 mp demo for the first time (yeah im well behind time) and I have to say, UT2003 has to be something pretty damn special to even come close to being as good as this.

The less said about island fricking 3 the better. That was the level that killed my enjoyment of the game. Same old shit went on for hour after hour.

Assault and the original Domination, as much as I love them, had some issues that prevented them from reaching their full potential online

Sorry, but that right there is one of the main reasons im not fully interested in UT2003 as much as I should be. Assault and domination were the best modes in UT, and the current crop of online games shows people like playing objective team based games (counter strike, medal of honor, BF1942, Wolfenstein etc..) where you have to do something like blow some big ass machine up, or steal something and take it somewhere.

Domination 2.0 might be interesting, but in the old beta version I tried it didnt seem to cut the mustard. CTF is old hat and deathmatch is fun for 2 minutes, so the only thing left in UT2003 is Bombing Run which seems very interesting indeed. For how long its taking to come out, you would think there would be more to a multiplayer orientated game than 1.5 decent modes.

Stick Assault in there with a fair few varying maps and sure enough the game will be good, but with its current old school modes that are available in every other multiplayer game, just what does this game have to offer is what im left wondering...

Must admit this game does look tidy from the videos ive watched. Never bothered with the multiplayer test/demo due to things I read about it (plus it appeared that ASE didnt have support for it thanks to gamespy being tight phuckers)

Is the "gore" level tame like Medal Of Honor, or does it have the typical blood and gibs from explosions? (not that it matters, MoH was superb and that didnt have any gore)

So being primarily a single player game, doesnt it make sense to at least make the game length more than 2 days to complete ? It would piss me off something chronic to splash out 35 quid for a game which has the life span of a single weekend.

As I said, its a tech demo that theyre sticking a price tag on purely because its offering flashy visuals. Give me gameplay over visuals anyday. Thats what games are for - if you want to look at something pretty, buy a picture.

Now I'll probably get flamed for this, but I couldnt give a monkeys so im gonna write it anyway. This is all speculation too btw..

Doom 3 is going to be one shite game with superb visuals. Its a tech demo, even more so than Quake 3 was. Its to show what the engine can do hence the poor single player (2 days to complete = shite) and possibly basic tagged on multiplayer. If this isnt a bargain priced game then id have got their beer goggles on and arent thinking straight.

Why would anyone pay full price for a very short single player game, which has pretty bog standard poor multiplayer aspects. Face facts, if quake 3 didnt have the online serial code (a la half-life wonID) it wouldnt have sold anywhere near as many as it has done, so I reckon that doom 3 will not do too well at the shops because there is probably no reason to buy it.

I'll get off ye olde soap box now and let the flames come in.

RTCW single player I agree was average. Its a finish once and never go back again game, but the multiplayer was supoib. Play it daily on a 32 player "Tram Only" server and ive yet to have a game where it was boring.

Expanding the multiplayer elements will just make it a stronger game (even though its a standalone "expansion" so technically a different game)

M-1 Garand being in is top news. My favourite "real gun" from every FPS that.

Hope its realistic and you cant reload until the clip is fired off.

(Hope this doesnt get repeat posted, blues is giving DNS error when I submit..)

Wonder if the people behind this game will pay for our eye examinations somewhere down the line through being forced to run the game at the eye popping 60hz refresh rate as people seem to be saying it requires.

Ive personally not downloaded the mp demo due to it not being supported in All Seeing Eye thanks to gamespy withholding the server polling/launching details, so I cant say for certain that it needs 60hz but if it does then thats absolute bollocks even for an alpha build. Nobody in their right mind would choose to run at 60hz if your monitor could support higher unless you want to go blind within the next 10 years.

Anyway, people who complain about this game:
b)use screen resolution above 800x600
c)use 16bit color mode
d)use refresh rate above 60hz

So let me get this straight. You think people that are complaining account for over 90% of gamers because next to nobody plays in 60hz as its too painful on the eyes, and 800x600 is a damned low res these days.

The same could be said about LPBs

In some games netcode (Half Life), HPBs have an advantage over LPBs due to the way it processes packets. For instance, a lagging player might see someone just about to walk round a corner out of view so they shoot him, however the person they are looking at is an LPB who has actually gone out of view by now but the other player looking at him is lagging due to being a HPB and guess what - the LPB will die from a lag kill. Why do you think there are "Forced Lag" cheats out there for CS.

It pisses me off when HPBs moan at LPBs when in actual fact us LPBs sometimes have trouble hitting HPBs due to them lagging and jerking all over the place.

I had my suspisions the other day when playing RTCW on a PB enabled server - some geezer was far too accurate for my liking and when I spectated him he seemed to have zero recoil and could just hold fire down and fire out a single stream of bullets in a straight line.

Shame folks have to resort to methods like this on an online game.
