William Gibson also beat the Wachowski brothers to the concept of the Matrix (and quite a similar story-ish) by quite a few years.

ECTS has been on the slippery slope for the last few years, the last two seemed to be more about the budget publishers & joystick / pad makers....

The death knell was EA, Sony and Ninty deciding it wasn't for them and that consumer shows & individual press events were the way to go.

Back in the days of Virgin (and around the time of MGS1) ECTS was a great event.

Looks interesting - really like the idea of the game being 'sound' driven too, going to be interesting to see how this wrks in practice. Any one else think the game looks a bit point and click with pre-rendered backdrops though ? (maybe just the angle the screens were taken at)

Engine technology looks good too

Being a Lionhead game it will probably be powered by the Infinite Bullshit Engine (tm)

the two scariest marketeer moments I've ever had was when one marketing manager on a game asked me what the definition of 'RTS' was...this wouldn't have been *so* bad if they hadn't already been the product manager for the title in question for over a year at this point! The other was when I was showing some new code to the marketing department, standing there with a mouse and keyboard booting into Windoze, they watched me go to programs and pick out the exe and launch the game...then one of the poor little fella's pipped up "so is this the ps2 version you're showing us?"

from past experience some expansions take anywhere between 9-14 months to produce (for standalon, I have no experience of MMO) I'd say though they are justifying the price tag because of the new graphics technology

the marketing guys who write them do have a hard enough time finding their asses with both hands so by rehashing the old release time and time again does actually help their fly sized brains ponder such important questions as why cornflakes go soggy, why the sky is dark at night and does their bum look big in the gucci suit...

edit: spelling, doh

its a plugin tool that Atari use on all their games, have you not seen it ?

they add in some OTT FMV sequence at the start of the game and some shady dialogue / voice-acting...not to menion having a renowned Hollywood director on board, one they forget to mention will also help in delivering that little extra that makes the whole game just radiate with 'high production values'.

/sarcasm off

I seem to remember hearing that due to poor sales there wouldn't be a sequel...I also seem to recall the team being laid off, but might (probably) have that wrong.

I'm with you on liking the game, it was top and really pushed what the Unreal engine could do at the time (think it used the first version after the visual basic editor = crash city!) The only thing that marred the game for me was the end of game 'vagina' you had to fight
