I'm sad to hear this as well. Ratbag was very creative way ahead of 95% of the rest of the devs out there. powerslide, and several other race games they had were technically way ahead of their time when they came out, atleast graphically.

Anyway...someone probably sold out. Sad.

I've come to a realization, which causes me to stop bitching about EA specifically, and all the other buggy shit out there.

Spam.
As long as spam is thriving, it shows there is an idiot born every day. SOMEONE will buy it, after all, with the internet, the WORLD is your customer, and there are more idiots than not. Same for the games, therefore, I give up.

I've had many a joystick in my day...hell some of them even got drilled, and then screwed down to the desk.(Still have that desk too, 4 holes and all).

Microsoft SideWinder Force Feedback 2 is what I use now, having a heavy base and all, and learning finess(sp), it never moves, and doesn't provide feedback in this game persay, rather, just the right amount of resistance to not over do it, helping the finess part. Anyway, I didn't find a picture, but if your ok with moving your hand from your KB to your JS, then use the throttle option, and you can increase/decrease speed, and just leave it.
I prefer the keyboard for all helo options myself, because while I have gone hours in the same machine before, it's rare honestly, and I need to be able to increase/decrease speed at any given time to fly effectively. Ya never know when swooping below a bridge, or crane is needed, and diving isn't always the answer, that's how you nose dive to the ground right there....:)

Hovering is ok...the JS I use has a sensor on it, leave your hand off the JS to long, and it will "relax", and the stick may fall one way or the other, taking your bird with you!

Not to make fun by any means, but I don't see why a guide is needed for either of those vehicles. It's not like real life, with tons of gadgets and switches and settings to control. You go forward generally, shoot at things, maybe roll, or turn, wasd covers all but fire, and that can be done with anything you choose.

I use a MS stick, the one that jiggles, and it's got enough resistance, that all that is really needed, as with bf1942, and bfv, is just a little finess... and flying is pretty straight forward. Like anything, if you over do it, your going to crash and burn.

The birds are almost like those in bfv, except that they don't turn 360 quite as easily at higher speeds, they only 360 well at low speed, and then still not as well at bfv. To turn quickly, I learned immediately you best option is to pop the nose, drop the tail, roll/turn right/left and then correct. At fast speeds, that's the only real way of turning around quick enough to hit someone flying by you after you engage in a fight. My .02 anyway...

Hi, my name is LugNut(thats ttungul in bf2), and I'm a BF2 upset junkie too.
It first started with BF1942, went to BFV, and I'm now totally insanely in love with the BF2 concept, but the result is something less than a miserable addiction to what could be stupidly fun, but is so far broken it reminds me of an old saying:

Great idea! -bad result.

Yes, clans will get the great idea part, but the target audience isnt a clan, and the majority isn't a clan, or in clans. They are normal folks like us in the form here wanting to play what would/could be a great game, but instead we all come to a general gaming site, to complain about one game in common. That means 2 things. 1. it's a great game that this general site speaks of one game. 2. the speaking is bitching.
Oh, what am I thinking, I honestly can't say anything more intelligent than the rest of you have already said, cause your all right about it.
I love this game, I hate them for releasing the same bugs they did twice before, and then putting out a patch that breaks it so much further, that the stupid voting system now works against you, ...sigh sigh sigh.(Red friendly's!)

Anyway, my BF2 name is ttungul, and I'm quite competent as a long time multiplayer gamer, and BF2 gamer, having figured it all out to a T. Note however, I will shoot friendly's, when you run in front of my fire, run over my mines, jump out of a moving vehicle(bug), etc, bug, etc.
Keep in mind, I have a goal, and it's to rank up. Think how logical it is for me to kill friendly's on purpose if I am trying to rank UP.

Having given my disclaimer, I would appsolutely LOVE to have some cool cats from here to play with in this game, cause it sounds like alot of you understand the problem, and that is a great start right there.

Peace out...

DDI:

I have tried so hard to get stingers to work...and having some common sense, I knew to wait on the flares to die out, but they almost always just go straight or curvy past the bird or jet. Like they stingers I use just dont track at all. And no I'm not using the tow for that, although I find using those for birds/jets easier than the stingers.

Yeah, i remember the 1942 demo when it came out, and thinking, wow, this would make a great star wars game.....

then battlefront happened and I thought wow...how can you take something so good, and totally fuck it all to hell.

don't get me wrong, when I first spawned as a droidacon, the feeling and affect was incredible, but they took everything that made 1942 fun out of it(the games fun aspects)...

Anyway...water under the bridge... that type of thing will NEVER happen again...

Xero: heh, yeah I guess I do sound rough...the games really have come so far, but big business is just sucking the life out of anything worth while, and when I try and go enjoy a game on my free time, and I get slammed with bugs, or big business crap in the face, it just makes my heart sink. That's why I say, "the good ole days are gone".
Gone are the days of the original grappling hook from an ax, savy comments from space alien killing rock stars...etc

Sigh. I guess the "good ole days" are gone. Beyond this news, the below news, and this god forsaken totally fun POS bugy game that brings out the worst in people BF2...I'm just getting to old for this shit I guess. Time to hang it up, get on with life. I guess. Games are all ruined now. Big business ruins everything...it was only a matter of time.

Teh is a common typo for the. This misspelling of the most common word in the (written) English language is so common that it is one of the words in the auto-correct lists of spellcheckers in popular word processing applications, such as Microsoft Word, OpenOffice.org Writer, or Corel WordPerfect.

In the online slang known as Leet, it is deliberately used in place of the, and often spelled with a numeral 3 in place of e. Teh and t3h are the traditional spellings of the in the phrase "ph33r t3h ..." (Fear the...).

Besides being an alternate spelling of the, teh also has grammatical properties not generally applied to the. It can be used with proper names, as in "teh John"; compare the usage of the definite article in Greek: ο Ιωαννης (o Ioannes), literally "the John". A similar usage comes from German, where the definite article is used as a specifier to modify the noun: "Der Johann", again literally, "the John", could be used to identify John, and not Phil, as the subject performing a certain action.

Furthermore, teh is sometimes used in front of a verb, turning it into a species of compound noun chain. The best-known example of this is the word suck. Thus, the phrase this sucks can be converted into this is teh suck; the word pwn can be similarly converted (teh pwn). The above phrases are primarily used by the gaming community, and often intended humorously.

In English, the can be used as an intensifier for the superlative form of adjectives; compare "that is best" and "that is the best." Teh has a similar use as an intensifier for unmodified adjectives, generally marking a sarcastic tone. For example, "that is teh lame" translates as "that is the lamest." This contrasts with the use of the in English to construct mass nouns from adjectives, as in "blessed are the meek," where the meek denotes a class of people who are meek, or perhaps teh humble.

In the Malay language, Teh means tea.

There: Enjoy your tea!

Dag-gumit...(Dont ask why I chose that one).
I didn't want to respond to this, but I've heard it before, so I thought I would share my opinion...and that is, EA is the evil empire. Dice is an engine developer, and EA distributes for them. Without EA, Dice can't ship their game. EA also decides as the major money investor, when the game is "complete enough", while the Devs generally beg and cry to finish the game until it's atleast got bugs that aren't so obvious. This is EA at it's finest in my experience, releasing title after title, generating that REV...cause that's all that matters to them at this point. Domination...

Edit:Oh, and I almost forgot my case in point...

Bf1942=Dice/EA Dist.
Bf:V=EA, released with all the bugs BF42 shipped with. Could they learn from the 5 patches 42 had? Hell no...SHIP IT! MoneyMoneyMoneyMoneyMoney
Bf2:Dice/EA Dist, alot more was thought out, for example, you always(when it's not buggy) see red as the enemy. The previous game could swap you on autobalance in mid game and your shooting the wrong people, cause the colors didn't follow you. And, the lag issue isn't the same type of problem 42 had, because this server has a Database tracking system reporting to centralized systems being tagged by the whole game world requesting data....obviously there is alot more involved, but the lag isn't the netcode, rather, the entire reporting function built into the game.
I have found by reading forums etc, with BF2, your either one of those folks who get 9/10 lagged servers, or your a 1/10, and I'm a 1/10, only getting on one laggy one once in a while, otherwise, they are all smooth as glass. A friend at work, always gets the 9/10, his is always choppy and laggy. Anyway, I posted more than I meant to..sorry

GD I love this game. GD I hate EA.
Anyway, the auto ability to just punish ppl for the TK stuff is got to be the most annoying thing I've encountered. Ppl want so much realism, but they sufficed for being able to punish/kick people for how the game(game!) "should" be real. Anyway...not going to debate this, rather, bitch, cause I'm in a damned bitchy mood.

And I quote...
http://www.shackbattles.com/wiki/index.php/BF2:Friendly_Fire

Sometimes teammates will have their names appear above them in red onscreen. Don't go by the red name color. Go by the player model. USMC have light-colored uniforms. MEC have a darker, camo-striped looking sort of uniform. At first they look very similar, but after playing a bit it's fairly easy to tell them apart. If you start shooting someone with a red name and a teammate yells at you to stop, then stop. You've probably hit the bug. It's pretty common, unfortunately. This bug can even make people show up on the wrong side of the scoreboard, so the player model method is probably the only way to be sure.

Actually, that's not true. In extreme cases, other bugs may even trigger the wrong player models, or else inaccurate detection of teamkills. However, during normal play, watching the model is probably good enough.

This bug can also occur in reverse: Enemies will appear as teammates, or even squadmates. Killing them triggers a [teamkills] message, but points are not deducted from your teamplay score. Also, like teammates, the nametags of enemies affected by this bug will be visible through walls!

A workabout to this bug is to exit the game by pressing ESC and then reentering the game (again ESC).
-------
How perfectly accurate this fellas statements are I can't attest to, but damn if this bug isn't annoying as hell. Especially when there is enough action on a screen that red versus blue is the best thing you got to tell friend from foe. For all those reading this, PLEASE....PLEASE..... I myself, and others, LOVE this game, even broken, and we want to have "FUN", and earn our ranks, and it's tough on our stats when we get punished and kicked for TK that we never intended, and this goes for you out there that run across those of us already proned laying cover fire. Don't run in front of moving cars, yes you can respawn in games unlike RL, but the ability to punish ME for your stupidity has gotten out of hand.
Anyway, my point is....GD EA, how can you release a "shootem up game" where you can't tell the good guys from the bad guys. GD GD GD you f*cking idiots.
Don't get me started on the vehicle killing bugs........

(sorry all your normal BNs readers...I had to let that out, it's not directed at any one person[which is a good thing, cause the world is my audience here hehe])

page me if you want to play some bf2

but without the 'publics' servers, which EA didnt buy, there would be no demo to show off, and therefore create a fan base. EA uses the public as the marketing engine, while pissing on it at the same time. EA needs to thank the public for expending their hard earned dollars to host software programs accessible to the entire planet to market their product.
BTW, this isn't Dice doing this, it's EA. They treat their employees the same way as their customers, that's a known fact.

I got my other gig from newegg, damn you gota love those guys, free shipping fedex, order on Monday, shows up on Wed..
Anyway, 2 gigs total now running with a 3.0ghz/6800gt, and I don't notice a difference in game perf other than loading maps/screens faster. I defrag nightly(batch), so I was impressed before, but the additional ram didn't seem to do much for BF2 other than those loading screens, the game is still running rock solid, feeling better than BF42/V, and somewhere between HL2, COD, and AA.(over all the game seems like a whole new engine honestly).
Now XP on the other hand, boy does it like that 2 gigs...1 gig unlocks XP, 2 gigs fires the afterburners. its sweet.
