Here's how it will play out...

Tons of people will bitch and flame about how evil steam is and how you don't actually own it. How the you might not even be able to play the game in a few years if Valve folds or something. There will be a ton of valid points made, many of which I agree with.

Others will argue about how it's the future and how easy it was to use and you shouldn't steal. Shame on you.

Me? In ten years, I'll look back with fond memories of the game. If we're unable to play it so be it... At that point I probably will be able to track down a crack for it. Who knows? What I do know is that I like Valve's games, and whatever they do next I will most likely purchase through Steam. Especially if games so good can only be played through it.

Yeah taht shot is a fake, somebody sent a link around at work awhile back debunking it. The TV in the top corner was just dropped in with a lousy photoshop background. The teletype machine in the front is also photoshopped to cover the large control panel. I think the shot had something to do with a dam or generator.

edit2 - come to think of it. this did happen once. I had teamspeak, bittorent, and firefox open and running in the background. I kept tabbing out of the game as well.

I have to second that thought Blue. It really is a "wow."

My clan just broke up. Figured it'd make it to C2 and maybe recover some. Oh well.

If you have an old character from E3, you may as well delete them since they'll be stripped and might look different. So far the game fired up pretty quickly and I didn't have any problem getting in. The only weird thing is that one of my old characters needs about 2000 files to be d/l'd before I can play. I wonder if I left that one at some different starting location.

Well considering that I could not get onto the MCV site all day, I had no idea it was real and had anything to do with football. Seeing what it is now I can understand how it would be a real product.

That's a shame. I'm on server 2 and having a blast. I've only had one bad encounter with chinese farmers the entire time. They've learned enough english to know not to interfere with most NA players.

Still, this game is nothing but grind.

Zaq, you will be able to play HL2 on any computer with Steam that you log on to.

You can d/l it at work, burn it to a disc to copy to your home PC, forget the disk on your desk, log on at home, and just download it again. Or go to a friends place, log onto Steam and play there to show him (so long as you copy the game files or download it again).

I want the soundtrack too... but I think I want the box more. Besides, I'm sure it will show up on bittorrent within a day or two. I could care less about the stickers, poster, postcard, & hat. A trip to seattle would be cool, I'd probably blow off valve though.

What does Valve's back catalog currently encompass? Did I miss something other than the original half-life and its mods?

And lastly: What's the pricing for each of these packages?

They've taken so long that when this game finally comes out it better have the best damn Happy Ending ever! And by "Happy Ending" I don't mean the "...and they lived happily ever after" type, but the "Chinese Massage - Gauranteed Happy Ending " version.

I called a bunch of places yesterday and they all said they would have it Tuesday. That's fine. If they have it today, cool. Wednesday, that's cool too. (But Tuesday is just that much cooler).

I just popped over to one of the torrent sites to see if they would actually have Doom3 up there, and sure enough they did. I have no intention of d/l'ing D3 and plan to buy it, but I was just curious to see what type of traffic it had.

There were numerous torrents up, two of which had nearly 30,000 people downloading it and another with over 4000! Come on! That's just stupid! That's just something I have never seen. I can't see how any of them are actually getting anything either. As a rule I tend to stay away from anything that has over ten times as many leechers as seeds, and several of them were well beyond a 10:1 ratio.

Buy the game people and save yourself the embedded virus!
