Boy do I love Derek Smart threads... Where do I start?
At 46, I have been gaming since the days of Pong. I’ve owned every single gaming console ever created.
This is such a cliched response, it's not even amusing anymore. If you have to rattle off the games you've played and the consoles you've own rather than let your development track-record speak for itself, you're doing something wrong. In Derek's case, the damage it causes is two-fold:
1) It shows he must rely on his "gaming prowess" rather than his track record, and
2) Of the 16,000+ games he's played/own, he still hasn't learned anything.
I have been around long enough to see the rise and fall of the likes of Microprose, Sierra, Dynamix, Empire, Spectrum Holobyte, Access, Interactive Magic, Bullfrog, FASA and every studio or publisher in between.
I love how he tries to juxtapose his longevity against those of other quality dev houses, as if his genius has kept him alive while the others failed.
From one of Derek's "sources":
I think you’re an easy target, Derek, not just because of your history but because your games are tough to learn and beyond the reach of reviewers out of touch with what gamers care about.
"Tough to learn" and
"reviewers are out of touch with what gamers care about"? Really? So you're saying gamers really want tough to learn games? Okay then...
I'm going to have to create another post just for Derek's rebutal of the game review...
