Pandemic took almost 4 years to release Mercenaries 2 and the game seemed like an early Alpha stage release. The Lord of the Rings game was a huge quality step down after Battlefront.

While that is true, ultimately it's EA responsibility. If EA didn't like the crap that was Merc 2, then why did they fund LotR, and then The Saboteur?

You complaining about how people on the boards "always want to side with the little guy" is asinine. It's EA's fault. EA allows - even endorses it (by way of further funding) these stupid projects, never holding the devs to a higher standard.

For years EA has been gobbling up devs and having them put out crap to make a quick buck. Now that EA is hemorrhaging cash like crazy, they're running around cutting everyone and everything. Should have cleaned up this mess before it got like this.

I run into this crap all the time at work. My bosses are all reactive, not pro-active. Same with EA. They could have fixed this long ago, but they don't want to.

Maybe it's some settings in your CCC?

I didn't make any changes in the CCC. I just tried 9.11 and the shadowing/flickering problem is worse!

I'm going to try 9.3 and 9.1 to see if that makes a difference.

I'm using 9.10 and having graphical issues with GTA IV. Anyone else having problems textures disappearing (or slow to reappear) and other Z-filtering issues? Someone suggested I try 9.8 and haven't done that yet. I might try these 9.11 drives to see if anything changed.

I love how all those EA sycophants were running around saying, "See! EA has changed! They truly care about making games." And here we are again, EA's spending is out of control, and they're closing down dev houses.

True, they did try creating a couple new franchises (that maybe didn't panned out as well as they hoped), and you could blame the downturn in the economy. But I just don't think it matters. It is ingrained into the EA culture to function this way.

I'm sure after 2-3 years, we'll see EA buying up dev houses again and paying exhortation prices for licenses, with many of them turning out to be sinkholes.

I feel bad for the casualties; though I have to wonder why if the lure of money is greater than the fear of losing your job when it comes to devs being bought by EA...

The Saboteur is scheduled for release three weeks from today.

EA: Thanks for the game... now get out of here!

But the story was bland and uninteresting, and the script was a bit too artsy for it's own good in my opinion. I could never watch it more than once.

You didn't see the version with Harrison Ford narrating, did you? That is by far the worst version out there (also known as the 'theatrical' version). If you can rent or borrow it, I highly recommend the "Final Cut" version on Blue-ray.

AMAZING!

As much as I love Blade Runner and would love to see another game, I'm glad Gearbox passed. Probably would have screwed it up anyway.

And I have never seen anything like how some gamers, rather than be miffed at the way publishers shaft their market, actually become apologists for their behavior! It's mind-boggling how many people will rationalize any and all of the detrimental moves by publishers by saying, "well they're in business to make money!"

I think a lot of that comes from the fact that publishers are continually going after the younger crowd, who are more often than not, naive about most things.

Cuts need to be made I guess.

Not necessarily. EA should slash their marketing budget 75%, stop with the pointless sequels, and start caring about the products they make.

It's looking more and more that EA and Activision are making moves solely in reaction to the other. Granted they're the two biggest publishers, but this is pathetic.

I hear the "Revitalization" is going to more closely mirror the wildly successful CoD series, and will feature a level where you play a Nazi guard stuffing Jews into a gas chamber. I think there's a special achievement if you get the right number of women and children. But it's all cool though - it's all done "in the right context," and players have the option of skipping it.

I see what you did there...

That said, I'm LOVING Dragon Age. I honestly think it's the best RPG I've played since... well, since BG2.

I loved BG2 so that's good to hear. I'll probably pick this up over the weekend, but won't actually play it until I finish Borderlands.

I like Eminem as much as the next guy but it was a poor song selection for this video..IMO.

Especially coming off the controversy surrounding the "terrorist scene" at the airport. Activision lies to everyone about how they're trying to show the horrors of war and terrorism, then releases this video... obviously designed to lure in console kids.

This is all just flat out untrue. It's rare that a game lets you sneak through it or use diplomacy to finish the entire game. The vast majority require combat. You definition of "true" RPG probably encompasses less than a dozen games in the history of electronic gaming.

I wasn't insinuating that Mass Effect wasn't a RPG, just it didn't feel or play like one. In some ways, playing Borderlands reminds me of Mass Effect: clunky inventory system, lackluster exploration, cheap skill-point system, etc.

I liked ME enough to finish it, but you can tell the focus was on combat (like they're doing with ME2), and that's fine. I guess my beef with BioWare/EA is the way they're presenting ME2 as a RPG. I'd prefer it was described as a action game with RPG elements.

Having said that, I'll probably get ME2 sometime later in Q1 2010...

Mass Effect 2 is one of the most anticipated titles of 2010

Just not very excited about this, especially with BioWare touting it as a RPG. I'll pick this up later when the price drops, along with Assassin's Creed 2 and MW2.
