Kinda puts a hole in the "piracy killing PC games sales" theory.

Have you seen the torrent sites lately? They are littered with Bejeweled torrents!

Of course some people just have to be rebels. Especially here at Blue's where you're not cool unless you hate everything and everyone.

Yep, only NKD is allowed to have an opinion and if someone thought differs... LOOK OUT!

I think Bioware focused on making a better shooter instead of turning Mass Effect into a more focused RPG game.

I agree with that. It just felt lazy and ultimately uninspiring. I was left feel "Why do I even care?"

I think they basically said "well we can go Dragon Age with this or we can go Shooter" and they went with making a deeper shooter experience,

Yeah, I think that's what happened, but I'd take the opposite side. The "shooter experience" certainly didn't feel or play deeper. I guess overall the problem that really irritated me was the fact that there was virtually no sense of exploration. It's bad enough that there aren't enough quality RPGs out there, let alone ones in a science fiction setting.

I don't buy his casual gamer arguments as I don't think Bioware really had that intention when designing it. They are really out of their depth making shooters and I chalk it up to lack of experience and a lot of conflicting ideas on how to improve the mess that was ME1.

I've got to disagree with that one. The impression I got from playing ME2 was that Bioware became lazy and decided to make a "Gears of War in space" game. I think Bioware felt they could appeal to more gamers if they "toned down" the RPG elements and essentially strip it of any identity it made for itself from ME1.

Some of the points from the article I completely agree with:

Bioware obviously heard people’s criticism but instead of fixing the issue they simply removed the feature altogether.
Each planet I visited I kept looking for the LAND button so I could go down and explore. Sadly, it never happened.

They are alien in look only, which is quite lazy on the part of the designers.
Another sign of laziness.

Any time you leave a hallway and enter a large room packed with crates and low walls you know one thing for sure: combat is coming.
There was no sense of danger, surprise, or tension. I'd walk into an area and think, "Oh great, another shoot-out."

There’s a great rule of thumb for screenwriters and the same holds true for video games: Show me, don’t tell me.
This is just one of the things Valve does perfectly. They convey information to the gamer in a meaningful way. Most game rely on this crutch for storytelling, but it's something that needs to die.

Information is buried in too many screens or not available at all. You have to sift through tons of upgrades just to get a handle on what bonuses your team has and weapon selection is cumbersome.
Honestly. what was Bioware thinking? Researching an upgrade requires you to click through a couple of menus (which in itself is not that bad). But after you choose a research subject, it exits you out and you have to do the whole thing again. It gets old when there are 3-5 things you want to research.

Abandon the framing of objects and force the player to actually explore and investigate. Add tons of interactive objects so the player has options as to how they want to play.
YES! The first thing that bothered me about ME2 was how completely static the gameworld was. Other than breakable crates, you could move chairs, shoot items, cause a mess, nothing. And yet your character still got stuck on objects!

Hacking didn't bother me too much, though I wished they were harder with more rewards. Mission arcs were uninspiring and having the End Mission Summary was a complete letdown.

Just hide behind a wall, pop up, shoot. Repeat…for the entire game.
I found myself doing that as well. As much as I wanted to employ some sort of strategy, I ended up just shooting everything.

I know it sounds like I hated the game (and I did to a certain extent and because it came from a developer that should know better), but there were aspects that I enjoyed. I absolutely loved the art direction and it was realized across both game very well. Voice acting was top notch. Traveling between solar systems was interesting and reminded me of Starflight.

But for all the mistakes ME1 had, I feel it was a better game than ME2. I know this is just my opinion and I won't change anyone's thinking; I just felt I needed to say something as I really don't understand the praise ME2 has been getting from "critics" and gamers alike.

I understand why publishers think by adding MP to a game, you're adding to the lifespan of it (if it works). But I would have preferred if they did the same thing as Resistance 2 and create a separate co-op experience instead.

With the huge amount of waste that happens in the industry, is it really too much to ask for a game to be tweaked/tailored for both the PC and the consoles?

I would trust PC gamers (here or elsewhere) before I would trust review sites. Granted, I won't know who's right/wrong until I played it, but everything PHJF said was exactly what I thought of when I watched the trailers...

What a lot of people don't know is that this "bug" isn't a bug at all, but rather an embarrassing result of the degenerative leg disease our motion capture actor, Del Bluskin, has bravely endured for over a decade now, which has turned the lower half of his skeleton into something that looks like two raw bacon strips held up in a wind tunnel.

Hhahahahaha, nice one.

George Lucas was on the Daily Show recently and John Stewart asked him why the new trilogy sucked (in a polite way). And Lucas brought up an interesting point.

He said that there is a generation (ours) that loved the original trilogy and hated the new one. Then there's a new generation that hasn't seen the old one but loves the new one. And there's a third generation that hasn't seen either generation and loves The Clone Wars animated series.

The point: this current generation of gamers knows only Halo and Modern Warfare and pay-for DLC, but knows nothing of how things were. So they just eat this crap up like it's going out of style.

Have you read some of the comments from that video thread? Kids were posting how they really liked the video and how it gives them a new perspective on the industry! Totally laughable.

It's probably time we just accept things the way they are; its not going back.

Is the Company of Heroes pack worth it? For $12 you can't pass it up. I've been wanting to get an RTS.

And I know the game is old, but can anyone recommend Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends? A local store has it for $10 or $15 and I was thinking of picking it up.

BioShock 2 is using a standard Games for Windows Live activation system

Fantastic. I think I'll just put up with the controls and get it for the PS3. I don't think the game will have enhanced graphics and a better HUD/controls for the PC. Plus all this GfWL crap gives me a headache.
