Most people who have been gaming long enough to even HAVE a Voodoo, have upgraded by now.

Usually you can wait a few days and the prices drop in the states.
That's not exactally true. Americans say that, but the price drops aren't permanent.
What happens is that big electronics stores, whenever they get a big-name PC game, put it on sale for about $5-15 less than retail. But they usually only last for a weekend, then the price goes back up. I've seen Max Payne on sale at Best Buy for $30, then the next week it's $50 again.

The only way that a game goes down in price is when it's getting old (e.g. American McGee's Alice, now about $15) or there's a sequel or re-issue out.

Actually, I believe the team who worked on Baulder's Gate and the team who worked on Fallout were seperate.
Alot of the guys from the Fallout team went and began Troika, though.

I'm with anon@24.197 on this one.
I really do not see how this is different than anything else that is illegal for minors to buy.

They're also the people who sit on the rights to Fallout and Carmageddon. AND the people who are going utterly broke because they only release a game every other year.

The engine build is current or at least close to it
And you say this despite the quotes from developers that it isn't, and the quotes from E3 goers that say it isn't.

Are you really telling me that its a prototype (pre-alpha = prototype)
Are you telling me you can't read?

The models are bad, but that are NOT placeholders
Wrong. The models are low-poly. If you knew anything about 3d animation, you would know that polys can be increased with the click of a button.

the textures are bad
No, the textures are LOW RES.

the sounds are NOT temps
"lacks a ton of sound effects and music" --Mark Rein
Not to mention that you have no idea when they recorded the voiceovers for the final version, let alone that they are put into that version.

this along with a close to current engine build that it is NOT PRE-ALPHA.
"[The leaked version] generally is indicative of something still too early to even be called 'beta'." --Mark Rein

Probably because they haven't polished up the physics programming of it. I think they have the Havok physics engine in, since they were using it at E3.

#46, Who are these developers that are setting the prices of their games?
I'm sure the devs that read this board would like to know, as every publisher i've heard of is in charge of pricing. That's what a publisher's job IS.

god damn that "demo" chomps the scrote.
You're not playing a demo. You're playing a leaked pre-alpha build.

are you sure this isn't the e3 2001 build with the UT2003 logo stuck on it?
There wasn't an E3 2001 build, that was a build of Unreal 2.

Its a joke.
It's a PRE-ALPHA. If it were GOOD they would RELEASE IT.

seems like a LOT of missing things if this "demo" is anything near the official one they plan to release.
NO. F*CKING. SHIT.

He forget to mention, missing skins, missing animations, missing textures, bad reflection maps, etc etc.
What exactally is your point? It certainly doens't sound like he was trying to make the leaked build look GOOD.

think using the phrase "ut2003 demo leak" is only making the situation worse, perhaps "raw sewage leak" would be more accurate
To anyone who's been in gaming for more than a WEEK (read: NOT YOU), "pre-alpha build" is, indeed, synonomous to "raw sewage".

I can only hope that Mark Rein is right in saying we should not taint our view of UT2003 buy playing this pathetic parody of a FPS.
again...
NO. F*CKING. SHIT.

Welcome to gaming. You've been placed in the newbie penalty box. Do not pass go, do not collect $100.

Nah, graphically it's very weak -- I get the same framerate in 640x480 or 1600x1200: bad.
How would that make the graphics weak? That would make your VIDEO CARD weak.

blah blah blah i'm a stupid newbie and this game looks sucky blah blah blah
If the game were in a good condition, they would do this thing called "releasing it".

It's in an unpolished, crap graphics, unfinished state. That's why they call it a pre-alpha. Because in that state, it SUCKS ASS. You seem like the same type of person that signs up for betas just for free games and then gets upset when they are in poor condition.

Welcome to gaming though. It seems that you began yesterday.

The thing about Anon users, though, is that they don't have any name to be attached to their actions. It's much easier to regulate a registered user, as you can recognize them and remember which ones are causing trouble.

It's strange, but when people have a name, they normally avoid ruining it.

Not to mention that even though there are some registered trolls, they only seem to be 1 in 20. As opposed to the 4 in 5 troll anon users.
