Wrong. It's clearly the one in the middle. Playing a console game on a PC doesn't make it a PC game, and it doesn't make you a "PC gamer".

They're not. It's just the third trailer/clip they've released for T4.

@Task - Thanks for the links. Very helpful.

I'm not sure why I even bother with these arguments anymore. It's the same thing every time, whether it be DX:HR, SC: Blacklist, XCOM: EU or any other game that people shit on before release. Same illogical arguments based on unfounded assumptions and false correlations.

Yeah, I don't either, Spock. It's not like you don't say the same condescending shit over and over. Or do you just cut and paste?

Sounds to me like you're a prime example of why they're raising the fee.

As I said, I abuse the hell out of it. However, the reasons they give for the hikes are increased shipping and fuel costs.

What nin said.

I love Prime. I abuse the hell out of it, and I also don't use it for streaming. But the free shipping... Just ordered a couple things? Free shipping. Realized you needed something else two minutes later? Free shipping. Too lazy to run the store for Pop Tarts? Add $3.99 for next day delivery and you will have them tomorrow. It's often cheaper just to have Amazon send me something from clear across the country than for me to get in my car and go buy it locally.

I have no problem with Amazon raising the subscription fee. It's still more than worth it to me.

Those are some horrible graphics. I don't need cutting edge, but I'm not going back to C64 level graphics on a modern game either.
It's a unique visual style from an indie developer, and I think it looks awesome. C64 level? Pffft... I bet the "graphics" in Minecraft are horrible as well, huh?

Part of the problem, he believes, is the lingering aftershock of the console transition and a continued need to develop for previous generation systems.

"You can't embrace the new systems and make a fully next-gen game because you have to make it through these other machines [the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360] too," he says. "Once people get over this hump of cross-gen development, then we can really start seeing some truly innovative ideas.
This. I disagree, Beamer. I think he has a firm grasp on what is wrong with PC gaming today. As to whether he can turn that into great PC games remains to be seen, but I'm glad at least one new developer understands the negative effect of consoles on PC games and intends to fix it. "Goofy new ideas" are what infected PC gaming in the first place and made it what it is today. The truly amzing thing about this guy is that he works for Ubisoft.

Also, I'm fine with people criticizing games before release, as long as those criticisms are based on fact and logic. Unfortunately, the people declaring that the game will be a consolized piece of crap aren't doing that. They take the most minor of nitpicks and blow them out of proportion or they come to absurd conclusions based on faulty logic.

No. We come to conclusions based upon the same info you have. You apply "absurd" to them in condescending bullshit disguised as this voice-of-reason babble you seem to be adept at. The truth is, other people have different opinions of what they expect in a quality PC game, and they don't necessarily jibe with yours. When we voice those ideas, it seems impossible for you accept that they are anything but "minor nitpicks", "absurd conclusions", and "faulty logic", and you feel the need to weigh in with a "correct" perspective. I wanted Thief to be awesome, but I've seen enough of the game and read enough from the developers to know I'm not interested any more. If that doesn't compute from behind whatever-color-tinted glasses you perceive the universe... well, I'm not nearly as astute or diplomatic as Ray, so I'll just say, "piss off".

Omg, they do! Thanks for the links. Hmmm... one takes place in the 80s. I was hoping to shed some light on the 20-teens. You know... unfinished releases, patch1 on day one, day one DLC, multi-platform concessions, FTP, PTW, Kickstarter, rereleasing essentially the same game over and over, but with a higher number after the title, undercover NSA agents, etc. The Google Play game looks kind of fun.

Oh brother. So, you basically don't play games anymore? Because every game has button prompts these days. And you do realize that the actions you perform are the same regardless of whether or not you see a prompt? If you press E to open a door or pick a lock or pickpocket someone, that action remains the same even when the prompt is never shown.

Oh brother. Who knew Jerykk would show up and tell me that my problem is I just don't know how to play a video game? Or, that the way many newer games are designed should be okey-dokey with me because it's okey-dokey with him? Shit dude, do you ever get off that horse? You think neo-Thief is awesome. Yeah, we all get that. Many of us don't. And it isn't because we simply don't understand what you understand about the game. Hell, from my perspective, you just don't fucking get it at all. Your comment seems almost purposefully obtuse, like it's your job to spin this game or something.

You assume that "apparently no one actually clicks" the link you posted because... why? Because we don't agree with you? I have seen that page, as I'm pretty sure most of the others who are critical of this game have seen it. Guess what? Doesn't change my mind about the game. And there is no gameplay there. And while you have dismissed no jumping as a minor quibble in other comments, many of us think it's actually a HUGE FUCKING DEAL, and speaks to the lack of respect for the original games and the PC platform, and to the intent of the designers to simplify, railify, and yes, consolify, what was once an outstanding PC game.

All of us actually want a great Thief game, and many of us saw the new game as an opportunity for developers to repair the missteps of the third game. Unfortunately, few, if any, AAA PC games are made without the taint of consoles and multi-platform development any more. And neo-Thief is no exception. PC games used to be better games than they are today. They used to improve every year. Graphics, control, interface, gameplay. And then we got Halo for PC, and DE:IW, and Thief:DS, and Dragon Age II, etc. Now, we get Thi4f.

You don't agree? Terrific. We disagree then. I'm fine with that.

"In the video the guy says you can turn off absolutely everything, the entire UI and all alerts. No mention of an FOV option."

I want to see gameplay with everything off. The constant "press x to xxxxx" prompts just isn't the kind of gameplay I'm interested in. I have 104+ keys and a bunch on my mouse. I want to assign keys to do specific things based on what the game physics will allow, and then figure out how to accomplish my objectives by being able to do anything I wish, anywhere. If you need to be prompted, or close enough to something so pressing a key will play some scripted action, well, then that isn't gaming, afaic. It's an interactive movie. It's limiting, and it's boring.

The Strategy Informer write-up stated "The story and the overall experience will be key to whether the game succeeds or fails..." I didn't get the impression that gameplay was what he meant by "overall experience". Multi-platform game development has rendered PC gaming simplistic and unchallenging, imnsho, and PC gaming has been infected with the "media experience", at least in the AAA FP stealth/shooter realm.

Oh well, I was glad to be able to see and read about more gameplay, even though it was done at Eidos' office. I've seen enough to know that they won't be getting my money. The game is pretty much as I thought. Too limiting, too much hand-holding, so many scripted events, and no bloody "taffers". Even if it wasn't a Thief game, it would hold no interest to me. As a PC game, it's two steps back.

John Cleese? Check. Malcolm McDowell? Check. Hmmm... Kate Beckinsale asking "would you like to inspect my wares?"... I'm not sure I'd recognize Kate Beckinsale's voice. And, unless I could actually see her somehow, you could have any limey chick reading her lines. I wouldn't know the difference. Now, Adele would make an excellent shopkeeper (or street whore).

Why is that everyone's go to?
It's an on rails game, like many arcade games, or the sadly popular Beachhead PC series.

True. It's kind of a thing with me, I guess. Gotta learn to turn it off.
