I was just about to look for reviews of Stronghold to see if it's worth getting so soon to EE's release

I'm not really an RTS fan - the only military based RTSs I've liked are AOE1 (AOK was not A-OK ) and Imperium Galactica 2. Still, I had my eye on these babies as they both look promising. I'll have to see.

How many game of the years are there? Excuse my old skool brain, but shouldn't there be one game of the year. I can accept a Half Life GOTY edition, as everyone else considered it great (I personally found an above average FPS and no more). Possibly a NOLF GOTY as it was a great game. But SWAT3 and all the others? Pah!

Not like you to post images on the main news - the ads are slow enough for my 44kbps modem

I never did buy SS1 as they 'forgot' to put it at budget price here in NIreland...

Have to agree with you. I can't stand Lamespy - bloat, ads, slow - you name a minus, Gamespy has it.

If TASE was better documented it would be great. As it is, it's only the best.

That's right - you don't. You have this version, 1.20, already when you installed from the CD.

This patch is for people with the 1.00 release (or with the 1.10 patch) that was out on the 22nd of June. The North American version which was out around the end of Augest/start of September *is* this version. The rest of us had it delayed as they had a bit of trouble getting the patch to work with different languages.

You do not need the 1.10 patch to install this - it will work with either 1.00 or 1.10/1.11.

As I said, easily misunderstood.

People don't have the right to initiate force against others - I'm sorry if I gave this impression (and re-reading, I can see what you mean - I worded it badly). I wouldn't post something I can not back up, nor do I think it's justified as an opinion - again, I'm sorry if I gave that impression.

I don't see what you mean about the UN has no power apart from the governments behind it - I didn't (or did I give that impression) say that it is anything else. But they are hidding because they don't want to die - fair enough! Of course they shouldn't have put themselves in that position - that is not fair enough.

And yes, morality is in the realm of opinion - I'm surprised you suggest anything else. Virtually every meal I sit down to contains meat products that some people consider immoral - but in my opinion eating animals is OK.

And I "appease such barbarians"??? How many times did I state that I do not think this is right, in anticipation of people posting replies like you have. I accept that I didn't make it clear - SOME parts of this is too fuzzy for a straight yes/no or good/bad. But much of it is pure bad and wrong and I in no way think they had justification with what they did.

Xain

Countries have laws against as it is 99.9% of people's opinions that it's wrong, and that it's necessary to keep peace. These people don't consider it wrong, therefore it cannot be fact - it can't be fact if there isn't 100% of people who consider it wrong.

I'm sure cannibal's also considered it fair enough - they had a reason, yes, but so did the terrorists, however bad the reason was. It's our opinion now that that is very wrong, but it was their opinion that they were right to kill (and eat) other humans.

Eeek! You're stepping on toes there!

Leader of the free world? I find this offensive, and it's also why there is so much anti-US attitudes on the net.

Also, it is not fact that it's wrong and sick - this is opinion. OK OK OK, I'm NOT saying I think it's OK, and I do NOT find this anything other than sick and very, very wrong. But it is a matter of opinion - that's a fact. This doesn't really have any relevancy, and is no doubt going to be misunderstood and flamed, but anyway.

I also dispute the word coward - I wouldn't be brave enough to poke a sleeping lion! Of course the main reasons I haven't done this is moral grounds and lack of reason, any, it takes guts to try this - guts and fanatical stupidity. Hiding? Come on, they're not that stupid - no country could do this and openly admit it as the US (plus the UN) could crush any other 1 country (not that a country was directly responible for this).

I certainly do agree with your "The US deserved it" discussion. The people who died - people who left their homes in the morning to do an honest day's work did nothing to deserve it - they didn't even have anything to do with Middle Eastern conflicts (assuming that's who did this) apart from pay taxes that funded the US's involvement (which I pretty much agree with, BTW), and you can bet they all complained about paying it (of course) and many strongly felt that they don't want it going into foreign trouble zones.

I large agree with what you say, but I just wanted to mention a few things I object too. I also want to make absolutely clear, as what I said is probably a tinderbox waiting for flames, that I do not in any way think these attacks were morally right.

Channel 4 (UK) just showed how Microsoft Flight Sim could be used to train the pilots, showing how one of the aircraft used in yesterday's disaster can be flown. They even tastefully flew it straight at one of the towers (but cut the film just before contact to avoid complaints).

This is ridiculous, plus shamefully using this disaster to plug other agendas.

In reply to #240, by salieri:

Hurrah!

This is the most sensible post I've seen for a long time. Too many idiots are too quick to point a finger and yell for nukes. These people are the same as the people celebrating in the streets of the middle east, except they have different influences upon them.

Of course there will be retaliation - if nothing else to show others considering similar action what happens to them. But I think, and I belive the US government thinks (if not the occasional citizen), it should be careful, measured and correct. Bombing rogue countries is unconsidered, reactionary stupidity - proof that you should not make decisions while upset.

I don't blame people for being upset. I personally don't know any victims of the WTC disaster, but I felt sick to my stomach as I watched the events unfolding - to be a US Citizen must be many times worse and to have a close friend of relative lost in the blast uncomprehensible. But the suggestions and attitudes on this board are ridiculous and, at times, racist.

File Retreat says "STOP LEACHING - bad host www.bluesnews.com", although the bnews link goes to their download page, not to the exact file. It could be Opera, which doesn't use HTTP_REFERER quite right...

EDIT: Just tried IE and it works, now downloading at an impressive 4.81Kb/s (just for the guy who said 25Kb/s as if it was bad)

What, you mean my sig? Had it before Op-FP came out. Now on the Op-FP forums I look unoriginal - coping my sig out of the death quotes

I actually read it first on the Unix fortune cookie program and thought it sounded clever and witty. *shrug*

I'm an action fan and I don't have it.

I've heard many bad things about it, so a demo is an ideal way for me to check it out first.

But then they release a 130Mb demo, which takes over 12 hours do download on my connection

Where can I download the 1st person mod?

Can it be turned on and off in play?

I don't know any Max Payne fan sites, apart from www.planetmaxpayne.com, which didn't take too much gray matter to guess, but it seems rather out dated with much pre-release stuff (look at their weapons section for example - it says there is little info yet, but more should be releaved at E3) and the files section only has the 1.01 patch.

This is why I haven't bought it - I've always hated 3rd person games (although I've never really given them a chance). I didn't know about this mod though - I'll have to check that out.

Yep, you read that subject right...

What can they do? They can't help it (much) if no one supports their new technology and they're getting competition from Radeon now. They have to keep releasing new stuff to keep themselves on top, while ultimately 70% of the new stuff they release is useless for the next 3 years.

Of course they could lower the prices so more people have their cards and more developers support new features, but that means less profit (per card at least).

I do think this is overdoing it - I feel they could improve other stuff before adding more performance. But with things like drivers it's not a case of improve this or that - it's two different teams.

They could juggle things and make better products, but let's face it, they're in this for the money and that's what they'll get. I can't really blame them for this, especially with ATi's upcoming 8500s. They are a profit making business and while of course I'd prefer a more charitable business style, I think it's rather idealistic to expect anything else.

I don't think I'll upgrade my GeForce 3 (GTS?) quite yet...

What is the big deal about Half Life? Every review seems to rate it as best ever - to me it's little more than good. There are many better single player games, like NOLF, SoF and Deus Ex, not to mention the newish reality genre with games like Op-FP (Operation Flashpoint) being stupidly good compared to HL.

I've never taken to Counter Strike either - for arcade deathmatch I play Quake 3, for more realilistic deathmatch I play, you guessed it, Op-FP.

Half Life has become a bandwagon, handy to jump on and drool over, much like Pearl Harbor (OK film) and Daktania (OK game) became bandwagons for negative reviews.
